When Bethani Watson did not hear from her sister last week, she became worried. She said her sister’s ex-boyfriend had been stalking her and threatening to “put her in a coffin” if she didn’t take him back, according to a report at Click on Detroit. He even reportedly put sugar in her gas tank in an effort to disable her car, the report says.

On Thursday morning, Bethani found her sister, Rachel Watson, (pictured) a mother of four, dead in the basement of her home in Westland, Mich., outside of Detroit. Bethani said she had gone to check on her because she didn’t show up at her job as a nurse Wednesday.

Less than nine hours after her body was discovered, her ex-boyfriend, Jamie Pearson, was arrested outside of his Detroit home and charged with first-degree murder in the crime. He pleaded not guilty during his arraignment on Sunday.

Click on Detroit reports:

“She was a sweetheart. She wouldn’t hurt a fly. It is just sad that that happened to her,” said Bethani.

Bethani said the mother of four was last seen Wednesday morning with her children. When the children got off the school bus that afternoon, Pearson was inside the house, said Bethani. But the children didn’t see their mother.

The couple had broken up recently, but Pearson, the father of Rachel’s youngest child, a 1-year-old boy, did not want to let go, the report says.

Bethani says the ex-boyfriend couldn’t let go, promising to put her in a coffin.

“He had been stalking her, doing stuff. She just got her car fixed Friday. He put sugar in the tank while she was at work. It has been just a lot of stuff escalating. He was abusive,” Bethani said.

Rachel’s father, the Rev. Theodore Watson, described the loss of his daughter as a pain he could not describe.
