Racist or not, a lot of folks are missing the big picture here. Joe Wilson was not at some convention or pep ralley. It wasn’t even a presidential debate or interview. He was at an event where the one and only speaker was the President of the United States. There are things that you just don’t do when you’re around your family, much less the President of the United States. Whether or not Wilson is a racist is secondary to the fact that not only did he disgrace his party, constituency, and district, but he blatantly disrespected the leader of our country. If this were another country, he might’ve been caned or beheaded for acting like this. The real question is, racist or not, what made him think it was acceptable to do that? Further, how does he feel that the only person he offended was the President, and not the American people? In addition, why is there no clamouring to punish his actions and make an example of him? I bet they would if a Black or other minority Statesman would have done this to George W.Bush. I just hope if the shoe is on the other foot, that person would be granted the same leniency that Wilson seems to be currently enjoying.
