Remember Eddie Murphy’s marketing executive character in the film Boomerang? That comedic turn unwittingly inspired an initiative with a serious purpose. Since 2007 the Marcus Graham Project has been dedicated to developing the next generation of thought leadership within the advertising, media and marketing industries. The  mission is to identify, expose, mentor and train ethnically diverse men and women in all aspects of the media industry, including advertising, entertainment and marketing.

Watch the video above to take a look at how the Marcus Graham Project has evolved over the years and look at of some of the major names in business and media that have touched it, such as Thomas Joyner, Jr., President and CEO of the Tom Joyner Foundation. You’ll also hear from Lincoln Stephens, co-founder of the Marcus Graham Project,

You’ll see scenes from the iCR8 (I create) boot camp, which MGP has sponsored over the last seven years. The summer-long experiential learning program provides aspiring advertising and marketing leaders with the exposure and experience necessary to build careers.

Applications for the iCR8 Summer Boot Camp are due in February 2015 and can be found on the Marcus Graham Project website.
