Updated: Thursday, Jan. 8, 1:45 p.m. ET: The White House has reportedly launched an investigation into how an image, purported to feature oldest first daughter Malia Obama, showed up on the Instagram page of a New York City rap group, according to Fox News, which cites a report at the Associated Press.

The photo’s authenticity has not been verified, but White House investigators are reportedly looking into how it surfaced on the page of Pro Era, the Brooklyn-based hip-hop collective led by Joey Bada$$.

An image allegedly depicting first daughter Malia Obama is causing a stir on the Internet. In the Instagram image that surfaced Monday night, the 16-year-old can be seen posing in a white T-Shirt emblazoned with the logo for Pro Era, the Brooklyn hip-hop collective.

While it’s still unclear if the image is indeed that of 16-year-old Malia, it reportedly appears to have been shot using PhotoBooth.

The photo first appeared on Pro Era’s Twitter feed and quickly spread to sites like Vibe and Complex. A representative for Pro Era member Joey Bada$$ told Gawker that they received the photo from “a mutual friend of Malia and the pro era member,” but declined to elaborate on details.

We wonder what President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama have to say about the brouhaha, especially since the First Lady told Barbara Walters last year that she limits social media access for Malia and their youngest daughter, Sasha, who was 12 at the time. If real, it appears that someone has a secret Instagram account.
