Additional footage of Freddie Gray’s arrest by the Baltimore Police has raised questions about the case and Gray’s state during the incident that took his life.

In video obtained by the Baltimore Sun, a limp Gray is seen in police custody during the police van’s second of five stops to the station. After being placed in leg restraints for his alleged “irate” behavior, the 25-year-old was ushered into the police van head first as his legs dragged on the ground. Bystanders can be heard screaming at the police officers, who included Brian W. Rice, William G. Porter, Caesar Goodson, Garrett Miller, William Porter, Edward Nero, and Alicia White.

Gray was arrested by the officers on April 12 and died a week later due to a severe spinal injury.

Rice is also accused of threatening a man who filmed the incident with a Taser.

Michelle Gross, the woman who filmed the video above, says she was saddened.

“I thought his leg was just broke and that he was just going to the police station and we would hear him that afternoon,” she said recently, as tears streamed down her cheeks.

At this point on the cell phone video, Gross yells to Gray, “You all right?” No response is detectable from the recording and Gross said she didn’t hear Gray respond. Her neighbor yells, “Porter, can we get a supervisor up here please?” He said he was yelling at officer William Porter, who would be one of the six charged in the case.

With five additional stops made before they reached the station, Baltimore City State Attorney Marilyn Mosby stated this footage is the most important yet, since it shows Gray non-responsive to the police officers. It also proves that Gray was not placed into a seatbelt and not given medical care when requested.

“Following transport from Baker Street, Mr. Gray suffered a severe and critical neck injury as a result of being handcuffed, shackled by his feet and unrestrained inside of the [Baltimore Police Department] wagon,” Mosby said.

Charging documents state that officers placed Gray in the van head first and on his stomach before transporting him around West Baltimore.

A total of 16 surveillance cameras caught the incident. Police have combined the footage and placed it on YouTube, but coincidentally, footage from #2108 near Gilmor House (where Gray was arrested) has been removed. Mount and Baker, the area where Gray’s second stop took place, was also removed.

All six officers have been charged with felonies, including manslaughter. Goodson was given the additional charge of second-degree depraved-heart murder.
