Six Black women have landed the covers of major mainstream publications this month. Beyoncé graced the cover of Vogue, Ciara is Shape magazine’s cover girl, Kerry Washington, Amandla Stenberg, and Willow Smith are on the covers of Self, Dazed, and i-D respectively, and ballet dancer Misty Copeland is featured on the front-page of Essence. Although many people are applauding the diversity, some are wondering why it’s taken so long. “But why now? It’s been 50 years since Donyale Luna became the first black model to appear on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar, prompting advertisers in southern states to pull their business from the publication and angering the magazine’s owner William Randolph Hearst,” wrote Kristal Brent Zook for the Guardian. New Hillary Clinton Emails Released, Some Confidential

The saga continues in presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s email scandal. Thousands of emails from a private account that Clinton had while serving as U.S. secretary of state have been released. Yesterday, the State Department revealed 4,368 emails from the account – 150 of which were censored because they contained confidential information. Some of the emails exchanged were about diplomatic issues, the earthquake relief efforts in Haiti, and birthday wishes from U2 singer Bono. President Obama to Return to Columbia University after Presidency?

As Barack Obama’s presidency nears its end, we’re left wondering what’s next. There are rumors swirling around that President Obama will reconnect with his alma-mater Columbia University when he is out of office. During a recent assembly, Columbia University president Lee C. Bollinger said that he looks forward to welcoming back one of their most notable alumni. “The president has long talked about his respect for Columbia University and his desire to continue working with them,” said Josh Earnest, the White House press secretary. “However, at this point no decisions have been finalized about his post-presidency plans.” Read more.
