Two students from a charter school in Washington, D.C have been expelled for framing a Muslim student for a bomb threat they sent through his email account.

According to The Washington Post, the incident happened on Wednesday when students from Washington Latin Public Charter School received an email with the subject title, “Bomb.” The email reportedly reportedly read, “Friday there will be big boom.”

Head of School Martha Cutts told reporters the culprits were two high school seniors that were identified and expelled for threatening violence. Cutts said the students came across the laptop in a classroom and noticed that the previous user didn’t sign out of their email account. Cutts didn’t specify if the students knew the Muslim student.

The Washington Post reports:

“I was never really worried that it was a real threat, but you have to obviously take those things very seriously,” Cutts said. “It can be very unsettling for students to open an email and read that.”

It is unclear if the students will be charged.
