I’m not “whining” about the language that we use or the clothes that we wear. And believe me I’ve seen the impoverished in other lands. I am very much aware that Amerikkka is not that bad of a country (I spell it that way because I find it ironic that the Klan came really close to running this country on more than one occasion then again that’s just my jacked up sense of humor), but it could stand for it’s own improvements. My point is that racism unfortuantely still exists and I’m growing weary of white people that expect blacks to either “get over it” or just downplay it like it’s harmless “humor”. It’s pretty easy to be insenitive to things when you’ve got a culture that caters to you and everyone else is instructed to look, talk, and behave like you even to the extent of disregarding their own. Yes, I know that people could think outside of the box and choose not to speak, dress, and behave in the manner that would be “unprofessional”, but realistically surviving is going to be a lot harder for those who take the road less travelled. Unfortunately HUMANS are more animalistic than we claim to be and like animals when we see a different phenotype we are either fascinated by it or repulsed by it. Racism has been around to justify numerous atrocities throughout history and some would argue that it will never end, but (perhaps I’m being a bit too optimistic. I’m a realist at heart) maybe if people would stop being so passive about this than this could lead to eradicating it one day. That being stated, allow me to shed some light on a couple of things: (1) people have complained about language, as a matter of fact to address this situation someone in California suggested “ebonics” or basically a lesson in “slanguage” as I would call it. In my opinion it was a waste of time because there are new phrases being coined every day. Good luck with keeping up on that
(2) Chronologically I was considered “grown” approximately 12 years ago (more than half of your lifespan) and mentally about 17 years ago (when you were 5). So please don’t take it personal if I may have said something that did apply to you. I’m just painfully blunt. It’s part of my charm.

Yeah I’m really not seeing how any of that applied to the topic… I understand your frustrations to an extent, but I’m just trying to offer a different point of view. You probably do have more education than me, because I have a semester left in my undergrad, but that doesn’t invalidate my viewpoint on a CARTOON. And trust me I read plenty of books, and I’m not on here searching for black women, so grow up.

And Im gonna get a ton of flak for this, but stop complaining about living here, you’ve got it pretty good. What language would you prefer we use? Seriously who whines about that?

Lakerdude, please don’t take this the wrong way but “whites” ,as you so eloquently stated, pretty much dictate fashion (hence the reason for guys running around in BRAZILIAN LOW CUT JEANS that were created to make the WOMEN have a more appealing derrier), music (which is why a lot of this garbage that is being released really doesn’t have any heart, soul or creativity anymore), and media (B.E.T. isn’t even black owned and operated anymore). I could digress and mention that this language that we are using sure as hell isn’t Cherokee, Muscogean, or indigenous at all. Especially since this country was re-created to basically be a haven for white males such as yourself (blacks and natives weren’t even counted as citizens during colonial times so the constitution couldn’t have applied to people of color). Since you mentioned “Shrek” I will say that it was rather fucked up that the only black actor (Eddie Murphy) had to play a JACKASS! Of course I wouldn’t expect you to see the subliminal statement in that, either. Besides you’re only 22 which means that you are from that generation that believes that cultural appropiation is being “creative” or “hip”. No one born after 1985 (the year that crack blew up)can really tell me jack shite! Therefore I’ve got you on experiences and I’m willing to be that I’m a hell of a lot more educated than you, brah! ok people lets take a step back its a kids story and if you watched the preview for the film you would see that there is more than meets the eye to this one.. Food for thought maybe her turning into a frog has more to do with issues in our own race? Light vs dark, nappy vs straight ect. Watch the movie before you judge and remember its just a kids movie.

Number one, Cleopatra was of MACEDONIAN descent not Greek. Being that I have an intimate and intricate knowledge about the Balkans and it’s history I can certainly attest that there is a difference (confusing those two is like confusing Puerto Ricans and Mexicans or Japanese and Koreans. You’re likely to be in a fistfight if you do that in some circles). If you’ve ever seen them side by side there are subtle differences. Plus on top of the Macedonians and Greeks are definitely not “white”. As a matter of fact I am involved with a woman from that country (guess I need to change the status now. I’ll do that later!) and I thought that she was biracial upon first glancing at her. Aside from that tidbit I just wanted to say that Disney has a history of altering stories so if the princess indeed turns into a frog, then it will be in a list of blunders commited by them. These people made everyone think that Pocohontas was a svelte fox (she was very much on the corpulent side), Heracles lived happily ever after (he actually died a fairly horrendous death), and Aladdins ethnicity (which to some, shouldn’t matter but for the record he WAS Chinese). Then again why did the black princess have to be the one that has to endure the beastly form when it was supposed to be the prince? I’ve heard racists compare the features of nubian descendants to that of frogs (large eyes, large mouths). Is this a case of subtle racism? Would the conglomerate (Disney, ABC, ESPN) started by a man who was openly anti-semitic (because he felt like the Jewish people were trying to hold him back) actually harbor racist views? The man who created Steamboat Willie by adding “ears” to a “Darky” cariacature? Nah……….. (end sarcasm)

Seriously though,I wouldn’t put past them to do something like that. They couldn’t even get Tarzan correct and that was symbolic of the Europeans invading Africa (something that one would think that they’d celebrate correctly). I guess what I’m saying is that people need to read and stop letting the film industry fool you into thinking that everything is true!

Why do black people always got to complain? And you wonder why there’s not a lot of movies with black people? Because there will always be somebody bitching and whining about something? At least there is a BLACK Princess (and she looks unapologetically black). Yes we would all love to see her with a BLACK prince, but they got to start somewhere. DAMN!
