Lamar Odom got a second chance at life after almost dying from a drug overdose last year, but that hasn’t stopped him from reverting back to the things that got him there in the first place.

Since returning to a normal state of health, Lamar has been spotted drinking and buying herbal Viagra multiple times. Although the Kardashians tried to save the star, his biological family has now stepped in to intervene.

According to the New York Post, Lamar’s close family members—including his children, aunt JaNean Mercer, and ex-wife Liza Morales—staged an intervention for the former Laker. Baseball star and drug survivor Darryl Strawberry joined via Skype to try and persuade Odom to begin treatment at the Darryl Strawberry Recovery Center in Florida.

Although the plea to get Lamar clean was genuine, insiders revealed it was not successful.

The Post’s Page Six reports:

“He was supposed to come to the house,” said Ron Doc, a certified addiction and recovery specialist brought on board by the Odom family, told Page Six Monday.

“I had his family there. The main focus was going to be his son and daughter. I had them write letters and they were going to submit the letters to their father explaining their feelings about his behavior. It was all set in place until this negative energy came. For [his friend’s] own selfish motives, sabotage the intervention.”

The specialist claims the family traveled instead to Lamar’s hotel, but were unable to see him thanks to an unidentified friend.

“I think this guy just kept us away from him,” Doc said. “He’s a very ugly person. If anything happens to Lamar, I would blame that energy right there.”

Earlier this month, Odom was kicked off of a Delta flight from L.A. to New York after being drunk and vomiting repeatedly.
