Comedian and co-host of The Talk, Sheryl Underwood, gave a passionate response to the shooting death of Terence Crutcher on the show Tuesday, after dash cam video showed the Tulsa, Oklahoma, man complying with his hands up before he was shot down by police.

Co-host Julie Chen presented a loaded question: “What do you think it will take to stop racial profiling?”

Actress Sarah Gilbert spoke first, saying she was appalled by the shooting and proposed that the consequences for officers involved should be re-examined.

“Racism and fear of Black men specifically drives these shootings. We have to change as a nation, fundamentally,” co-host Aisha Tyler said.

“You don’t have to train the police not to shoot White people, why do you have to shoot them not to shoot us?” Underwood said to Tyler as she explained the parallels between how Whites are handled by law enforcement in relation to Blacks.

Then, near the brink of tears, Underwood said that officers should be prosecuted to the fullest extent if they shoot unlawfully.

“You’re white, y’all drive all the time and don’t nothing happen to y’all and we black and I’m afraid to drive my damn car because if they don’t know who I am I can be shot,” she said. “Until y’all feel that, this ain’t never going to stop. Until you all that are not black feel it and stand with us, this is not going to stop.”
