Girls Trip star Tiffany Haddish has been on cloud nine, as the nation figures out she’s one of the funniest women it never knew. But when the comedian and actress made a poor joke in a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, she was aptly reminded what is given can also be taken away—with the quickness.

ICYMI, Haddish told the publication she would work with Bill Cosby, despite the surplus of rape and sexual assault allegations made against him. “I still want to work with Bill Cosby. I don’t care, I’ll drink the juice. I’ll take a nap. I don’t give a damn. But seriously, I would love for him to play my grandfather in something,” she said lightheartedly… but the joke fell flat.

Now, she’s addressing the controversy, The Los Angeles Times reports. While speaking on a Television Critics Association press tour panel, Haddish said, “It was a joke,” adding, “I don’t know if you’ve ever been interviewed. You go through about 27 interviews and you’re supposed to be humorous—sometimes you are going to make bad jokes.” According to Vanity Fair, she attended the panel to promote TBS’ upcoming series The Last O.G. with costars Cedric the Entertainer and Tracy Morgan. She went on to tell the audience that she’s “not afraid to do anything,” adding, “I’m not afraid to do any kind of role as long as it doesn’t compromise my morals.” “I don’t agree with what he did,” she said referencing Cosby, “but I’m not afraid of the big bad wolf.”

Haddish, who’s also starred in The Carmichael Show and Keanu, said she’s “super happy” at this point in her career. “I’ve been accepted finally. After all these years of hard work, blood, sweat, and tears. See me now! She ready!

Girls Trip is in theaters now. Cop a ticket, butter your popcorn, and watch Tiffany Haddish work alongside Regina Hall, Jada Pinkett Smith and the one and only Queen Latifah.
