Hurricane Harvey touched down in Corpus Christi, Texas on Friday night as a category 4 hurricane with winds of 130 miles per hour. Thus far, at least eight people have been killed and over a dozen have been injured with tens of thousands of residents being evacuated throughout the entire city.

As the storm continues to rage on in Texas, here are things you can do to help support.

1 Donate to the United Way of Greater Houston

United Way has set up a relief fund collecting donations in order to help the community in the aftermath. The first priority will be safety, shelter and basic needs, like food. Once those needs are met, long-term recovery efforts will be the focus.

2Offer a Place to Stay on Airbnb

If you live within driving distance of where the hurricane struck and are interested in opening up your home to evacuees, Airbnb has created a portal to connect you to those looking for a temporary roof over their heads. The site is waiving all fees for placing those affected by the storm in safe houses before September 1.

3 Give Blood

Red Cross is taking donations as well as encouraging people to give blood. Additionally, two Texas organizations also collecting blood are Carter BloodCare and South Texas Blood and Tissue Center.

4 Provide Shelter for Pets

The Texas SPCA is the largest animal shelter organization in north Texas and has been leading organizing efforts to shelter pets during and after the storm. The organization is asking for donations but also supplies such as cat litter, litter boxes, towels, toys, treats, and more.

5 Support Organizations Helping Those With Disabilities

Portlight helps people with disabilities during natural disasters. You can make your donations here.
