After winning a seat on the Minneapolis City Council, Andrea Jenkins reportedly became the first openly transgender woman of color elected to office in America, The Fader reported. Jenkins shared a victory within the transgender community alongside Danica Roem, who also became the first openly transgender person seated in any state legislature in the country after becoming the first openly transgender person to run for the Virginia House of Delegates back in July.
