A nine-year-old boy was stabbed and killed in the early hours of Saturday morning in Morningside Heights after what his family says was a fight over a video game.

According to the boy’s mother, Anthony was visiting his uncle and while the uncle was asleep, the boy was stabbed.

The boy’s uncle told reporters the boy knocked on his bedroom door at 3:30 a.m. saying he had been stabbed, and then collapsed.

The little boy, Anthony Maldonado of Palisades Park, NJ, was found by police in a sixth floor apartment at 75 LaSalle St., in the Ulysses S. Grant Houses project.

Police say he had suffered a stab wound to the chest and was rushed to St Luke’s Hospital in critical condition, where he was pronounced dead at 4:19am.

Police have arrested 25-year-old Alejandro Morales, who lived with the uncle, for the stabbing.

Morales was charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

“Anthony was playing … on PlayStation when his friend came and stabbed him,” said the boy’s distraught grandfather, Antonio Juela, 59. “My grandson died over a video game.”

Police said Anthony was stabbed several times. A relative said his face had also been slashed and that he had bruises on his arms – perhaps indicating a struggle before the stabbing.
