The influence of hip-hop on American culture is undeniable, but can hip-hop help curb inner-city crime and build trust among African-Americans and the police? Paul Butler thinks so.

Butler is the author of Let’s Get Free: A Hip-Hop Theory of Justice and a professor of law at George Washington University.

During this discussion, Butler makes a very profound statement about incarcerated African-Americans. There are more African-Americans in prison now than there were slaves in 1850.
