Federal scientists said last week that nearly three-quarters of the oil from the BP oil debacle has been removed by various artificial or natural means, but that the spill’s effect on wildlife will long continue. Filmmaker Spike Lee says that the U.S. government report is a “lie.”

He then said journalists should expose “the real story” while speaking at a meeting of the Television Critics Association on Saturday.

Lee argued that it’s unlikely that “abracadabra, presto chango” the vast majority of the oil has vanished from Gulf of Mexico waters and coastal wetlands. While we understand that Spike Lee is not a scientist, common sense would suggest that those numbers relative to the reported amount of devastation and spillage are a little suspect.

Not to mention the constantly changing information during the actual spill. We’re not understanding the controversy, since Lee basically said what a lot of people are thinking.
