More proof that money is NOT the answer. Take note, that this district won a 2 Billion dollar desegregation court case, and one of the schools decided to build an Olympic sized/style swimming pool. This enhances the education process, how exactly? No more damn money for these failing schools. Need to put more fiscally responsible administrators in!

years ago most of the post would of blamed the current educational system in the black community on the white man, the white system and so on and so on looking for a boogey man, we would of been steered toward that direction from our so called black leaders. but now is a new day we now know that our so called black community leaders are in bed with teacher unions and banks that gave out sub prime loans for monetary gain.

Im glad to see we as a people are thinking more independantly , we see things for what they are and not what we were told.
OFCOURSE MONEY WAS NEVER THE ANSWER.
1. seperate yourself from city schools by any means possible. most city schools with black constituents are run poorly with enept and greedy administrations. kinda remind you of the HBCU's
2. WATCH WHICH BLACK POLITICIANS COME TO COLLECT SOME OF THE 900 MILL OR ARE QUICK TO PRAISE IT AND SAY WE NEED MORE EVEN THOUGH WE ALL KNOW ITS NOT THE ANSWER. THOSE ARE THE CORRUPT BLACK POLITICIANS WE NEED OUT OF THE COMMUNITIES.

Maintaining statu quo is the mission. Blk parents must realize that changing the school's system infrastructure would take big $ outta many pockets, people would actually have to work and keep skills current, and keepin inner city schools in the 20th century is the agenda.

Blks need to take a page out of the immigrants book b/c African and Asian students are studying and learning outside of the classroom and to many of'em, the U.S. school system is just a formality. They can ace u.s. h.s. courses at 12 yrs old. They've got their eyes on the universities or tech schools.

Graduating or getting a GED from a U.S. high school is easy. Algebra, geometry, algebra II and calculus are not required courses. You can get that diploma by just learnng the 3 rs.

@tsmonie1

The reason why the older generation had more success is because parents where stricter and the school system wasn’t as leniant.

************************************
Myth, education has never been a priority in the AA community. This is just revisionist dribble talk. There was a period where the AA community fought for the right to be educated but the High School test scores and graduation rates have always been poor. The percentage of AA with a college degree has also always been poor. What has changed is the high rates of single parent homes and the lost since of community that AA once had.

Money is NOT the solution...The drop-out problem starts at home. If they are asking for 900 mil to buy new parents then by all means do so. I grew up in the same hoods as damn near everybody else, same crime rates, same everything. My advantage was my home life. Parents dont stay on these kids anymore like they used to. They let the media 'raise' the children instead of themselves and it doesnt help that parents are getting younger and younger while dumber and dumber. I am 31 with a 9 year old child, my neighboor is 25 with a 10 year old, 7 and 2 year old...Sounds like a recipe for drop-out! The spending of 900mil to solve this problem is like putting on brand new clothes without taking a bath..The gov't needs to get to the ROOT of the problem as opposed to putting band-aids on everything, eventually those suckers dont 'stick' anymore...

MAATRA, "Go HARD or go HOME" is my new personal 'mantra' for you...You always bring it...

_A_, You make so much sense its ridiculous!! *Applause*

Grow Up!!!!Funny how you all sit up in here and complain about a prroblem thats been going on for decades. They didn't say the Drop out dilemma just started they said te statistics are getting higher.Ignorant people like yourselves are the first to complain and haven't attempted to help ressolve the problem.Yeah it's easy for you to degrade one's solution to the issue. How many of you all are in school to be teachers as we speak. While complaining about the strong individuals who go to school to become teachers to teach your children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins etc.I'm pretty sure none of you have attempted to pick up a book. How many of you all just posted what you witnessed and didn't try to educate the children you've talked to how important it is for an education in America.Education is needed more now than ever for these children and the older generations as well.Just imagine what the future would be like.the blind leading the blind. And who in the heck is going to set an agenda for some children because they're not being intelligent enough to realize education is something no one can take from them. No one is going to cater to some kids who don't even want to be at school all day.A minimum work day is 8hrs(not including those hours that are madatory). The call center jobs are being outsourced.Just face it. In America these kids have to many options. They're allowed to do what they want and when they want. When the problem is attacked at home and then with the school system which, has the loop holes that allow these kids to Drop Out successfully(which is so crazy)then this will come to an end or the drop out rate will decrease. They need to learn discipline and to know they are not running the show. The reason why the older generation had more success is because parents where stricter and the school system wasn't as leniant.Yeah the author was right money is a start but, we as American people need to contribute to the community as well. We need to volunteer in the schools,go back to school if you haven't already to learn the skills to help our children(So these so called Europeans wouldn't just teach our kids). The older generation is the first to say that the're to old togobackto school and are relying on these kids to lead America. It's going totake all of us. Technology is more advanced and there are more things to know now days than before.Even though these kids have dropped out they know more than half of you and their parents. So when you guys start helping then you can complain.

In America these kids have to many options. They’re allowed to do what they want and when they want. When the problem is attacked at home and then with the school system which, has the loop holes that allow these kids to Drop Out successfully(which is so crazy)then this will come to an end or the drop out rate will decrease. They need to learn discipline and to know they are not running the show. The reason why the older generation had more success is because parents where stricter and the school system wasn’t as leniant.Yeah the author was right money is a start but, we as American people need to contribute to the community as well. We need to volunteer in the schools,go back to school if you haven’t already to learn the skills to help our children(So these so called Europeans wouldn’t just teach our kids). The older generation is the first to say that the’re to old togobackto school and are relying on these kids to lead America. It’s going totake all of us. Technology is more advanced and there are more things to know now days than before.Even though these kids have dropped out they know more than half of you and their parents. So when you guys start helping then you can complain.

First off, lets be real sensible here. If that program in Britain is really the true answer, where are all the other children setting records on the tests. You're gonna have to show me more than two, for me to believe it's the program, because right now it looks like those two young children are exceptions. Maatra is dead on. The current system is a cancer, and just like chemo doesn't cure cancer, neither will throwing more money at the educational system cure it's ills. First off, the dept of education needs to be done away with. Secondly, schools need to be given the latitude to come up with their own innovative ways to teach. Frank Mickens turned the Brooklyn Boys and Girls school around by simply demanding excellence from not only the students, but the staff. EVERYBODY, the administrators, teachers, janitors, lunch ladies, security, etc. You know who his biggest opponent was? The damn UNION. BHO is not really interested in repairing our school system, if he were, he would start by busting the American Federation of Teachers. He would also throw money at charter schools that are proving to work, on less budgets. PS now spends about 12k to educate one child. There are charted schools out here doing in on 3500, and having Significantly better results. More money isn't needed, an appropriate curriculum for OUR children, and better management of the current budgets will solve this issue!

Casey this is pure garbage and you know it. How can you educate kids in an environment where kids are not motivated, have no discipline and have no respect for authority? One of the most intelligent people I have ever met in my life was my great aunt. She was educated in a colored school by candle light down south in the late 1800's early 1900's. She went on to college got a degree and became a teacher (basically one of few job opportunities that were available for educated Negros back then). She was motivated to learn. We are just putting good money (900 million) on top of bad money. The money is going to be spent on an increase in the number of teachers and an increase in their salaries (this is great for the teachers and the teacher unions who don't want any accountability), capital improvements and equipment. History has shown that the number of drop outs will not change substantially. It has been shown over and over again that more money does not mean better achievement. My point is this; You can give every student a new apple computer and place gold handrails in the school. If the kids are not motivated, NOTHING WILL CHANGE. My solution is to use 70% of the money to pay the kids for grades, test scores and good behavior. Rank them. Kids love to compete and feel proud about earning something. It will, also, give them a quick lesson in capitalism. The harder you work the more you accomplish the more (in most cases) you're rewarded. Set time aside during class for homework. Most of their parents are drop outs and can barely read themselves and do not really value education. Some of them talk a good game, but they really don't value and prioritize education. Home is not a place where a lot of homework is going to get done. Remaining 30% for teachers and capital improvements and equipment. Give the teachers a raise and fire teachers whose students rank the in lowest 10% within each area at the end of every school year. This creates accountability from the teachers.
