More than 30,000 weddings are planned today across the country, according to Brides Magazine and online registries. Many couples chose the date on purpose — all the better to remember their anniversary, right?
Mason’s Bakery, in Fort Myers, Fla., whipped up a record 26 cakes for the weekend, including a baker’s dozen for weddings today. That’s about twice its normal weekly volume.
“It’s like an extra holiday,” co-owner Lisa Ketcham said.
Brides and grooms aren’t the only ones celebrating Sunday’s once-a-century phenomenon.
