Tommie Smith, who famously raised his fist as a symbol of Black power in the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City is selling his gold medal and sneakers he wore during the Olympics according to USA Today.
Smith’s famous fist salute caused a great deal of controversy. Originally Black athletes had planned to boycott the Olympics until a change of plan. Tommie Smith and fellow runner, John Carlos, used their shining moment to show pride and to attack racism. The minimum bid is $200,000
