Herbert Tracy White, Calif. DMV via AP

LOS ANGELES — Police are hunting a Pennsylvania couple they say killed a Good Samaritan who befriended them before he was cut up and stuffed into a backpack in a Los Angeles hotel room.

Edward and Melissa Garcia of York have been charged with murder and are considered armed and dangerous. Los Angeles police and the victim’s weeping relatives on Wednesday asked for public help in finding the suspects.

A maid found the body of 49-year-old Herbert Tracy White of Hollywood on Nov. 29 in a hotel room near skid row. Police say his body was dismembered, with parts stuffed in a backpack and others wrapped in a blanket under the bed.

Detective Richard Arciniega says it appears White befriended and tried to help the couple, both of whom have previous arrests for robbery. He says they may have tried to rob him.
