Hank Aaron hit his record-breaking 715th homerun in 1974, passing Babe Ruth for the Major League record. Joe Frazier and Muhammad Ali squared off in the biggest prize fight to that point, the “Rumble in the Jungle” in Zaire. Don King assured both boxers a $5 million purse. George Brown and Mervyn Dymally are elected the first black lieutenant governors in Colorado and California respectively.
