On December 6, 2004, an alleged interview appeared involving tennis mega-superstar Serena Williams (pictured) that mysteriously flooded e-mail inboxes everywhere.  The question and answer printed dialogue depicted Williams as a self-hating individual who put Black men down by making explosive statements about them such as, “They [Black men] will be obsolete in 10 years…once artificial insemination has become as common and accessible as the flu shot.” But the comment that picked up the most steam was her allegedly saying, “A White man is the only choice for a successful Black female.”  Almost immediately, the e-mail became viral, but did the interview actually take place or was it the stuff of urban legends?

The mysterious Williams’ interview prompted radio call-ins, debates, e-mails, letters, and news reports, with people being up-in-arms as to why Williams would make such inflammatory statements about men of her own race.

But there was more.

The following statement was attached to the tennis dynamo as well:

I dated Black men.  I loved many of them but they were not suitable for marriage.  Many of them were raised by women with warped mentalities.  So I had to date outside my race.

…

The secret organization of women is waiting for the day when men are 100 percent dis-empowered.

I hope Oprah makes the choice to marry a non-black man soon so she can have a child of her own.

To those who believed that Williams was a Black male-basher, they were dead WRONG. The interview was a fake and the comments that were purported to belong to Williams were conjured up. As to who created the fake interview or why, it still remains a mystery to this very day.

Williams’ publicist at the time, Raymone K. Bane, adeptly hopped on the defamatory and slanderous story and spun Williams out of a situation that could have maligned her permanently. Bane issued a press release pronto about the hoax that stated:

Serena Williams has not conducted and would not, under any circumstance, conduct such an interview. We are making every attempt to find the source of the hoax.

Incensed about the hoax, Williams then provided her own statement:

Words cannot express how upset I am to find out that someone has deliberately attempted to ruin my reputation and image, says Ms. Williams. I would never, ever, under any circumstance, be so disrespectful. Whoever decided to write this garbage does not know Serena Williams. It is not my thinking nor my being. I want to find out who is behind this, and have them prosecuted within the fullest extend of the law. I am hoping that there will be more policing over the Internet, in order to find out immediately the origin of this kind of treachery. No one deserves to be humiliated and defamed this way.

Serena, the haters could never make you fall from grace, keep doing what you do!

Juanita Bynum

The 54-year-old self-proclaimed prophetess took to her website and wrote the following statement:

Until recently, it was my understanding that a resolution had been reached  involving a business dispute between Mr. Al Wash, of ALW Entertainment and  myself, reads Bynum’s statement on the April 18 arrest in Dallas, Texas.

I was  wrongfully detained, by the Dallas Texas Sheriff’s Dept. for failing to appear in court several months ago, for a civil court appearance, of which I knew  nothing, involving the prior mentioned business dispute.

Bynum, who says she was later released after a brief court appearance regarding the charges, contends, “I have not been found guilty of any fraudulent, unethical or non-integral  behavior.” According Bynum’s website, Wash, the promoter named in the statement, sent her an e-mailed message the day after her arrest, which is also available for view on the site.

Oddly enough, Wash’s aforementioned e-mail supports Bynum:

I am here to help people build their career not destroy their career and I will  always believe in Dr. Bynum.

The promoter also refers to Bynum as a “spectacular person” with whom he hopes to work with in the future. The monies in question that were allegedly paid to Bynum were for an event that she allegedly never honored. Wash made comments on his Twitter account indicating that Bynum owed him $125,000 but had not made any further updates to his account.

The woman whose ministry preaches God’s tenets of faith, health, wealth, and prosperity counters that she paid Wash $25,000 and that they had come to an agreement with regards to whom would be responsible for the balance due. Bynum also points out in her printed statement that Holly Carter and Releve’ Entertainment are liable for “breach of fiduciary duty”  and “unjust enrichment” tied to “the fraudulent nature of her ‘representation’  of me during this business transaction.”

Meanwhile, Bynum ends her statement by celebrating the fact that she is now a goodwill ambassador for Bayelsa State in southern Nigeria and stresses that she will no longer allow character assassinations  “with impunity.” Along with the statement regarding her arrest, Bynum has included a press packet of information about her newfound appointment along with photos of a ceremony toasting the event that was attended by Nigeria’s crème de la crème.

Unfortunately, the Atlanta resident has faced quite a bit of controversy in recent years.  In 2008, Bynum’s then-husband, Thomas Weeks, also a minister, pleaded guilty to charges of assaulting her; they later divorced. Last year, Bynum sent shock waves throughout the gospel grapevine when she confessed during a radio interview to having had sexual relationships with women.

U.S marshals arrested Everett Dutschke, 41, of Tupelo, Mississippi, Saturday morning for mailing letters laced with the poison ricin to President Barack Obama and two other public officials, report Reuters.

According to the DJ Journal, Dutschke was charged with “knowingly developing, producing, stockpiling, transferring, acquiring, retaining and possessing a biological agent, toxin and delivery system, for use as a weapon, to wit: ricin, and with attempting, threatening and conspiring to do the same, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 175(a). If convicted on this charge, Dutschke faces maximum possible penalties of life imprisonment, a $250,000 fine and 5 years of supervised release.”

Dutschke, who ran for Congress as a Republican in 2007 and for local office as a Democrat in 2008, went into hiding last week after multiple agencies searched his home.

According to Reuters, the martial arts instructor also currently faces charges for fondling three adolescent girls, ages 7 to 10, from 2007-2013.

As previously reported by NewsOne, Paul Kevin Curtis of Corinth, Mississippi was initially arrested for sending the poisonous letter to the POTUS, but friends and family claimed that he was innocent. Charges against him have been dropped.

According to investigators, Dutschke is suspected of framing Curtis because the two men had an ongoing feud.

Christi McCoy, Curtis’ attorney, said that her client is happy to no longer be a suspect, but the moment is still bittersweet:

“We are relieved but also saddened. This crime is nothing short of diabolical. I have seen a lot of meanness in the past two decades, but this stops me in my tracks. “

CHICAGO — Don’t take the cinnamon challenge. That’s the advice from doctors in a new report about a dangerous prank depicted in popular YouTube videos but which has led to hospitalizations and a surge in calls to U.S. poison centers.

The fad involves daring someone to swallow a spoonful of ground cinnamon in 60 seconds without water. But the spice is caustic, and trying to gulp it down can cause choking, throat irritation, breathing trouble and even collapsed lungs, the report said.

Published online Monday in Pediatrics, the report said at least 30 teens nationwide needed medical attention after taking the challenge last year.

The number of poison control center calls about teens doing the prank “has increased dramatically,” from 51 in 2011 to 222 last year, according to the American Association of Poison Control Centers.

“People with asthma or other respiratory conditions are at greater risk of having this result in shortness of breath and trouble breathing,” according to an alert posted on the association’s website.

Thousands of YouTube videos depict kids attempting the challenge, resulting in an “orange burst of dragon breath” spewing out of their mouths and sometimes hysterical laughter from friends watching the stunt, said report co-author Dr. Steven E. Lipshultz, a pediatrics professor at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.

Cinnamon is made from tree bark and contains cellulose fibers that don’t easily break down. Animal research suggests that when cinnamon gets into the lungs, it can cause scarring, Lipshultz said.

Dr. Stephen Pont, a spokesman for the American Academy of Pediatrics and an Austin, Texas pediatrician, said the report is “a call to arms to parents and doctors to be aware of things like the cinnamon challenge” and to pay attention to what their kids are viewing online.

An Ypsilanti, Mich., teen who was hospitalized for a collapsed lung after trying the cinnamon challenge heartily supports the new advice and started her own website — http://nocinnamonchallenge.com — telling teens to “just say no” to the fad.

Dejah Reed, 16, said she took the challenge four times — the final time was in February last year with a friend who didn’t want to try it alone.

“I was laughing very hard and I coughed it out and I inhaled it into my lungs,” she said. “I couldn’t breathe.”

Her father, Fred Reed, said he arrived home soon after to find Dejah “a pale bluish color. It was very terrifying. I threw her over my shoulder” and drove to a nearby emergency room.

Dejah was hospitalized for four days and went home with an inhaler and said she still has to use it when she gets short of breath from running or talking too fast. Her dad said she’d never had asthma or breathing problems before.

Dejah said she’d read about the challenge on Facebook and other social networking sites and “thought it would be cool” to try.

Now she knows “it’s not cool and it’s dangerous.”

UPDATE 4/17/13, 4:58 p.m.: The Boston Marathon press conference has been postponed due to the bomb scare that occurred at the courthouse this afternoon, according to the Huffington Post:

A press briefing regarding the Boston Marathon investigation was tentatively scheduled for 5:00 p.m. today at The Westin Copley Plaza, 4th Floor, 10 Huntington Avenue, Boston. The briefing is postponed,” said the statement from the FBI’s Boston field office.

“At this time, Federal and Local law enforcement agencies have responded to the reported bomb threat at the John Joseph Moakley, United States Courthouse. Media will be advised accordingly by way of a FBI news advisory when a new date/time has been established,” authorities added.

UPDATE 4/17/13, 4:24 p.m. EST: The Federal Courthouse in Boston has been given the “all clear,” according to the Huffington Post:

Authorities at the U.S. Federal Court House in Boston said there was a bomb threat but the building is now clear. Employees are being allowed back inside.

A federal courthouse in Boston has been evacuated amid conflicting reports that a suspect in the Boston Marathon bombing is in custody.

The U.S. Marshals Service in Washington says the courthouse was evacuated due to a bomb threat. Spokeswoman Nikki Credic-Barrett says authorities are conducting a security sweep.

Attorney Francis DiMento says he was in a hearing when someone came over the loudspeaker and told everyone to get out in a hurry.

There is conflicting information as to whether someone has been arrested in connection with the Boston Marathon bombings. A federal law enforcement source told CNN’s Fran Townsend that someone was arrested. But later, two senior administration officials and another federal official told Townsend that there had been a misunderstanding among officials and that no one has been arrested.

UPDATE 4/17/13, 2:30 p.m. EST: The Boston Marathon bombing suspect is reportedly being taken to South Boston’s U.S. District Court, according to the Boston Globe:

One suspect is in custody in the Boston Marathon bombing investigation, a source told the Globe this afternoon.

Two Globe sources pointed to both cellphone photos and video footage as providing the break that led to the identification of a suspect.

One source said earlier in the day that an image of a suspect carrying, and perhaps dropping, a black bag at the second bombing scene on Boylston Street, outside of the Forum restaurant.

That official said authorities may publicize their finding as early as this afternoon.

UPDATE 4/17/13, 2:16 p.m. EST: The Associated Press confirms CNN’s account that a suspect has indeed been identified and arrested:

A suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings was taken in to custody Wednesday in a breakthrough that came less than 48 hours after the deadly attack, a law enforcement official briefed on the investigation said Wednesday.

The official spoke shortly after several media outlets reported that a suspect had been identified from surveillance video taken at a Lord & Taylor store between the sites of the two bomb blasts, which killed three people and wounded more than 170.

The official was not authorized to divulge details of the investigation and spoke to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity. The suspect was expected at a Boston courthouse, the official said.

A news briefing was scheduled later Wednesday.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid took the first procedural step to begin debate on Monday. He said Republicans owed relatives of the massacre of school children in Newtown, Conn., a vote on gun proposals, adding, “Shame on them.”

The Nevada Democrat spoke shortly after receiving a letter from 13 conservative Republicans saying they would try to block Senate debate on the bill. The letter said gun curbs would violate the Second Amendment’s right to bear arms, and the group indicated they would force Democrats to garner 60 votes to proceed – a difficult hurdle in the 100-member chamber.

HELENA, Mont.– Montana’s chief federal judge will retire following an investigation into an email he forwarded that included a racist joke involving President Barack Obama.

U.S. District Judge Richard Cebull had previously announced he would step down as chief circuit judge and take a reduced caseload, but he informed the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals that he now intends to fully retire May 3.

The appellate court posted a statement by Chief Judge Alex Kozinski on its website Tuesday announcing Cebull had submitted the retirement letter.

The March 29 letter comes after the appellate court’s Judicial Council issued a March 15 order on the investigation into the February 2012 email, but appellate court spokesman David Madden could not say whether Cebull resigned because of the order.

“The misconduct process is confidential. I am not privy to what the order said nor do I know what Judge Cebull’s motivations were,” Madden said in Wednesday email.

The council’s order will remain confidential during an appeal period, which concludes May 17, Madden said. The council will make an announcement after Cebull’s retirement takes effect, he said, but added that he was unable to answer when the order or the letter will be released to the public.

A Cebull aide directed calls for comment to Clerk of Court Tyler Gilman, who said Wednesday that Cebull would not have any comment other than the court’s statement.

He declined to release the resignation letter or describe what it said.

Cebull wrote a letter of apology to Obama and filed a complaint against himself after The Great Falls Tribune published the contents of the email, which included a joke about bestiality and the president’s mother.

The Billings judge forwarded the email from his chambers to six other people on Feb. 20, 2012, the newspaper reported.

Two other groups also demanded an investigation, with one, the Montana Human Rights Network, starting an online petition calling for Cebull’s resignation.

Kim Abbott, the network’s co-director, said Wednesday she was pleased with the announcement but hopes to see the results of the investigation.

“The email really called into question his ability to treat women and people of color fairly, so we’re happy Montanans will get to appear before a different judge,” Abbott said.

The complaints were referred to a special committee appointed by the appellate court to investigate whether Cebull’s email constituted misconduct.

Kozinski’s statement said the committee submitted a report to the Judicial Council in December after “a thorough and extensive investigation” that included interviews with witnesses and Cebull and going over related documents. The council issued its order based on that report.

The statement says the Judicial Council will not comment further until Cebull’s retirement is effective.

Cebull previously said he would take senior status March 18, which would have allowed another judge to be appointed while he continued working with a reduced caseload.

U.S. Sen. Max Baucus then formed a committee to replace Cebull and another judge taking senior status, with Baucus recently recommending that Obama appoint state District Judge Susan Watters of Billings to take Cebull’s spot on the bench.

The new chief federal judge, U.S. District Judge Dana Christensen, plans to meet with other judges to discuss how to handle the Cebull’s cases, Gilman said.

Cebull was a Billings attorney for nearly 30 years before becoming a U.S. magistrate in Great Falls in 1998.

He became a district judge in 2001 and has served as chief judge of the District of Montana since 2008.

Cebull’s notable cases include his block of reopening of the U.S. border to cattle in 2005, two years after the U.S. banned Canadian cattle and beef products over fears of mad-cow disease. The 9th Circuit overturned that decision.

Cebull also presided over a lawsuit filed by landowners against Exxon Mobil Corp. over the cleanup following last year’s pipeline spill of 1,500 gallons into the Yellowstone River.

Duncan remained in a Los Angeles hospital until he passed away on Sept. 3 at the age of 54.

Omarosa, who is still grieving Duncan’s death, told ESSENCE.com recently, “I’m still in our home. Michael’s toothbrush is still in our bathroom; his jacket is still hanging on the hook. I live with the presence of Michael Clarke Duncan every day because everything is as he left it. I need time to decide to put away the toothbrush, or fold up the clothes that he threw over the back of the chair. But I haven’t done that and that’s my process of grieving. It’s unbelievable at times. I miss him every single day. It doesn’t get better, but you get better. So I’m working on getting better.”

All of the celebrities on All-Star are playing for a charity that is near and dear to their heart. Omarosa is playing for her late fiance’s favorite charity, the Sue Duncan Children’s Center, and has thus far won the organization $40,000.

According to Omarosa’s unidentified attorney, who spoke to RadarOnline exclusively, “Rev. Manigault has been heralded as a life saver for her actions on the evening that her fiancé suffered a life-ending heart attack.

It is because of her bravery that Mr. Duncan — the love of Rev. Manigault’s life — was able to live for months beyond that tragic night. Mr. Duncan passed away from natural causes.

“Ms. Jackson made the statement immediately after having been “fired” off the show, and blames Rev. Manigault for her loss. It is repulsive and of the lowest level of class for Ms. Jackson, who showed herself to be a “sore loser” in making these disgusting statements in the wake of Rev. Manigault’s tragic loss.”

Ayinde, whose actual name is Charles McGill, directed the R&B group, the Fugees’, “Killing Me Softly” video. Beverly described her ex as a kind of brutal Svengali who tried to control everyone in the household under a reign of terror. She told jurors that Ayinde “equaled himself to being a prophet.” The woman went on to describe her statement in more detail: “As time went on, he was god-like. I had to call him, ‘my god.’ He equated himself to Jesus Christ … He would sit us all down and lecture us about his greatness and his power … At another point, he equated himself to Prince and Michael Jackson.”

According to Beverly, Ayinde, who has been often referred to as a “calculating and cunning pedophile,” had a twisted vision of creating a master race of pure-blooded children by impregnating them.

The mother of five also told the courtroom that she should have foreseen one of her daughter’s pregnancy. In a disturbing account, Beverly testified that her former husband, who walked around the home naked and allegedly sodomized one daughter over 100 times, had informed her in an almost surreal way that he needed to perform oral sex on one of their daughters who was 8-years-old at the time.

“I was shocked. I said ‘What are you talking about?’ He tried to present it in this very godly, spiritual way,” she stated.

Beverly then went on to recount how, with the birth of each of their children, Ayinde became increasingly physically and mentally abusive to everyone in the home. The woman told jurors that Ayinde, who did not have faith in doctors, actually delivered their last three children himself without being medically supervised.

The children were also home-schooled but according to Beverly their curriculum was not approved by any board of education.

There were obscene forms of torture that Beverly claims she and the children were forced to bear. “He threatened he would kill my children. He would cut them up and put them in different places and I wouldn’t be able to prove anything because I didn’t have a birth certificate for any of them,” Beverly lamented.  When the woman was questioned as to why she could not pick up the phone and report her husband’s cruelty, she responded by stating, “The way things were in the house, I couldn’t just do something,” she said, still crying. “There would be hell to pay.”

Ayinde’s den of iniquity finally came to a halt when one of his daughters summoned up the courage to contact police in 2006; she was 19-years-old. The unnamed woman informed police investigators about her house of horrors and how she got pregnant by her dad and gave birth at age 15. She told them how she and her two other sisters bore their father a total of six children.

Ayinde is currently serving 40 years in prison after being convicted on all counts of molesting one of his daughters from about age 8 until she bore his child as a teenager.

The R&B singer-songwriter performed a 30-minute set at the Ace Museum in Los Angeles. He was calm onstage, singing songs like “Pyramid,” “Crack Rock,” “Sierra Leone” and “Thinkin Bout You,” which is nominated for record of the year at the Grammys.

The 25-year-old wore his signature headband while purple lights shined in the background. He bent on his knees as his guitarist jammed on one song.

Ocean is part of the six top acts nominated for six awards at the Grammy Awards. His debut studio album, “channel ORANGE,” is nominated for album of the year. He’s also up for best new artist.

The unidentified mother who was Tarazed by security guard Darien Long at an Atlanta Mall.

Darien Long, a security guard at Metro Mall in downtown Atlanta, deals with unruly patrons each day. Sometimes, they threaten him with violence.

Long regularly records these encounters, but one 5-minute video — which was shot in May of last year — has recently gone viral. The video captures Long tazering an unidentified woman hurling foul language at him in front of her small children at Metro Mall.

Though the cause of the altercation is unclear, the mother is clearly miffed at Long for addressing her children in what she considered to be a disrespectful tone.

“Security! Don’t yell at my muthaf**king baby,” she yelled. “She not inside this raggedyass mall. So you not finna yell at her!” She continues, “You looking over there. But you hear what I’m saying to your pu*sy ass! Don’t muthaf**kin yell at them!”

Oh, it gets much worse.

Instead of leaving the mall, the woman continues yelling obscenities at Long. She then encourages her young children to call the man “gay.” By this time, Long had retreated into the store he was guarding, but the woman, her children and another unidentified woman accompanying her continued to yell at the guard. The children then enter the store, ignoring the guard’s order to their mother to remove them from the premises.

Instead of complying, she followed her offspring into the store and physically confronts the guard. After she begins throwing punches at him, Long  took out his Tazer and fired at the mother. She hit the floor immediately as her children stood near her crying hysterically. A man, who identified the children as “my babies,” expressed anger at Long for tazering the woman and threatened him.

“I’ll see you at six o’clock,” the man said numerous times.

In a recent interview with a local CBS affiliate in Atlanta, Long says that he video records the incidents so that he can help make the area a safer. “What you need to do is clean up the neighborhoods, so other businesses can come in and then downtown Atlanta can prosper,” he said.

The woman who was tazered was charged with criminal trespassing, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and simple battery.

Long has gotten online support from Crowdtilt.com, where neary $20,000 has been raised to help support his crime-stopping efforts.

In Jet Magazine’s February 11th issue, Mallory, who is known for her work against gun violence and misogynistic song lyrics, was named the “Sojourner Truth of Our Time.”

Truth was born in to slavery as Isabella Baumfree. She changed her name, becoming an abolitionist as well as the foremost activist for women’s rights, with her riveting ”Ain’t I a Woman?” speech that solidified her as a pioneer for women’s suffrage.

During a recent interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” the POTUS said that he didn’t believe more guns are the answer to the nation’s rampant violence, particularly in schools.

“I am skeptical that the only answer is putting more guns in schools,” Obama said. “And I think the vast majority of the American people are skeptical that that somehow is going to solve our problem.”

There has been a national push for gun control in the wake of the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School when 20-yaer-old Adam Lanza walked into the school in Newtown, Connecticut and murdered 20 children and 6 adults, before killing himself.

According to a Washington Post-ABC News poll released this week, 55 percent of Americans support the NRA’s proposal to place armed guards with schools. Sixty-five percent of those polled with school-age children support the the idea.

Reportedly, the woman was standing against a wall trying to get out of the rainy weather while waiting for a bus, when suddenly, witnesses stated, the sidewalk just caved in beneath her.

“The woman was enormous. She had to be more than 300 pounds,” Daniel Crumity, 44, told the New York Post. Crumity said that he saw the entire episode from the window of a bar, adding, “It happened so fast she did not scream or anything. Everybody in the bar got up to look.”

The woman fell through a slab of concrete that connected to the basement of a restaurant. In order to fish the woman out of sidewalk sinkhole, firefighters and EMT workers had to resort to utilizing a “high-angle rescue unit,” which is similar to a crane with cargo netting.

It reportedly took about 30 minutes before rescue workers could get the woman out of the hole.

The woman was taken to a nearby hospital, so her arm injury could be treated.

As to why the sidewalk actually gave way, fire officials are guesstimating that the age of the platform had something to do with it.

CHICAGO — A Chicago man accused of binding his 22-month-old daughter with tape and posting a picture on Facebook has been sentenced to 18 months of probation.

A Cook County judge on Friday also ordered 22-year-old Andre Curry to attend parenting classes and submit to periodic drug testing.

Curry posted the picture with a caption that read, “This is wut happens wen my baby hits me back.”

He was convicted in November of aggravated domestic battery and aggravated battery. He’d faced up to seven years in prison but received probation because he has no prior criminal record.

Curry’s lawyer had argued the father was merely having fun with the child and that she wasn’t in danger. But the judge disagreed and criticized Curry for obstructing his child’s breathing for his own enjoyment.

The beauty with the fiery attitude, model Naomi Campbell (pictured) was violently attacked on the streets of gay Paris last month.  The scuffle appeared to be an attempted robbery, which left the cover girl on the losing end with a torn ligament in her leg, according to the Daily Mail.

As Campbell tried to hail a taxi on Paris’ busy streets, her assailant reportedly lunged at her while her arm was extended, causing her to fall to the ground.

As soon as the 42-year-old’s still-married billionaire boyfriend, Vladamir Doronin, heard about Campbell’s incident, he had his private jet flown in to Paris so that his lady-love could be whisked away to Vail, Colo.

At the skiing playground of the rich and famous, Campbell was treated by one of the world’s top orthopedic surgeons, J. Richard Steadman, who ordered that her leg be placed in a cast.  Now Campbell gets around in crutches or in a wheelchair.

Since her incident, Campbell has tweeted positive and uplifting messages via her Twitter account and is still keeping mum as to the particulars of the robbery, because the French police asked her not to reveal any details about the case.
