Bill Cosby Drops A Rap Album

Back in January 2008, to the surprise and sheer confusion of the media, Bill Cosby announced plans to debut a hip-hop album. Now that the elapsed time has allowed the initial shock to wane, Cosby’s plan is finally coming to fruition. ‘Bill Cosby Presents the Cosnarati: State of Emergency,” is due November 24 and represents the iconic comedian’s effort to bring awareness and social consciousness to troubling issues in hip-hop culture.

With tracks like “Where’s the Parade,” an ode to black women, and “Dad Behind the Glass,” which addresses the issue of absentee fathers, Cosby felt the need to carefully explain the idea behind the album.

“I don’t like referring to the music as clean,” he said. “What I like is what you’re not going to do. You’re not going to curse. You’re not going to put women down. You’re not going to put the glory of the gun somewhere. And you’re not going to put a whole lot of violence up front like that’s the thing that will cleanse you and make you feel better.”

    come on bill or should i call him “dollar bill yall,dollar bill yall, dollar dollar dollar dollar dollar bill yall” cause thats what hes about now. but at one point yall didnt know bill ran in streets for while in philly,yeah had a few chicks too, so you would think a old timer like him would and could identify with the brothers of today, coming from broken homes, single moms and dads. i mean he wasnt born rich,but he came down hard on his folks as if he was a white man name sir pierce. dollar was in the streets so hard he dropped out of school and to save him from a life of mischief (i dont want to say crime)his mommy sent him to the navy.and oh yeah he end up getting a g.e.d.(not taking nothing from him i cant, hes a doctor)who you think fat albert was based on, and they was reckless for real,he just had to tone it down a little so abc can buy it.so my thing is forget all that rapping s**t, its not going to fill an empty head or an empty belly, and put out a cd on how we can sell our childhood story in animation to abc,nbc,cbs,bravo,mtv or bet so we can get out the ghetto too,and i bet it’ will sell like you got hov featuring on that rap cd. positive education always corrects errors!

    kimconchris—Bill is an Honorary Doctor—Nothing he earned but was instead given to him and does not carry any real academic weight. as for his accomplishments—especially the Cosby SHow–He STOLE certain works rom others to present on the show (and yes, I can prove it)while being given ownership of other parts (again stealing)….As you say–He is Dollar Bill–Not worth the paper he’s purported to be written on. Bill was a set up, if anyone knows what I mean, for Black people, is getting senile and believing the BS he has been told. All I can say is watch out for the guy because he does not mean Blacks well as he pretends to…..Ask me for proof and I CAN provide….

    Trying to decode ILLITERATE jibber-jabber gives me such a FREAKING headache! Only a few Members on here are intelligent enough to understand.. I DO know this, though.. I AM gonna be searching for this album to download (PHUCK the RIAA) so I can sync it via iTunes to my iPod Touch! I’m listening to Track 11 – Where’s the Parade and I dig it! Sounds like Nas is on that one. I could be wrong. But I really dig that track! ;-)

    Personally, I have to say “Much love to the Cos!!!” All Bill is doing is pointing out that too many of our problems as a people are caused by ourselves. Bill has ALWAYS stood as an alternative to the “brainless street negro” which as a result of rap and rap culture has now become the rule instead of the exception that he/it has always been. The world says that “the truth hurts” whereas the Word says that the “truth will set you free”. Many of you sound like angry children who don’t to hear that you have to “go to bed”, “say please and thank you”, that “you have to be twice as good to get half as far”, “its not what you’re called but what you answer to”, that “an education is the one thing that no one can take from you” or “respect your elders”.

    In short, most of the wisdom and discipline which brought us to the world stage as a vibrant, courageous,intelligent and spiritual people. This same wisdom is what now enables you to freely run around glorifying criminals and ignorant mind set, cursing at the top of your lungs, maiming, murdering your own kind and other self destructive habits which help to keep us in self perpetuating bondage. Cos’ Alexander Scott character was totally radical! There had never been anything like it. I remember! I was there searching for a hero that wasn’t wide eyed with fear and butchering the english language while kissin some white man’s behind. The Dr. Huxstable character said to the world that most black people are not crotch grabbin, illiterate savages who can’t conceive beyond childish consumption and violence. Some of you would rather run around stanking than to have someone tell you to go wash yo azz!!! And that is all Dr. Cosby is sayin! Stop blamin the white man because it has never been his collective desire nor in his best interest for you to achieve. Stop turning your lives and our communities into cess pools of ignorance and realize that “integration” only means that you can move somewhat “freely” about the cabin BUT WE’RE STILL IN A FIGHT FOR OUR COLLECTIVE LIVES AGAINST A SYSTEM THAT WANTS TO KEEP US IN CHAINS!Don’t be mad at Bill, all he’s doing is “keepin it real”!!!

    Tupac was also in “I get around (about promiscuity), and “You wonder why they call you B***h” (the latter being “constructive criticism, yet he simultanously justifies calling the woman out of her name). Some of y’all really need to get off of his (‘Pac’s) nutsack, he isn’t Jesus (but them again I have doubts about his ever existing, anyway. He’s dead just like Biggie, Big L, Big Pun, JMJ, Scott La Rock, Subrock, MJ, Elvis and all of those other MORTALS. As for Cosby, I like his message (some of you young knuckleheads should take heed, your opinions are a shining beacon of the ignorance that you revel in), but if he does have secular acts on it (which kinda reeks of BS), I will treat this less seriously than I was initally going to. There are too many talented unsigned rappers out there for someone that is already established to hog the airwaves.

    Jazzpast = ignorant. That’s first! Now, as I listen to this album honestly from a musical standpoint I wouldn’t buy it only because I’m not feeling the production, however; I still may buy it because I believe in supporting positivity. We as blacks never support each other or see the broader picture. At least Bill speaks up about what’s going on in the community. When do you hear Jessie Jackson, Farrakhan, NAACP speak up? We have a President who is SOOOOO DISRESPECTED, but do we stand up and support what he’s going through right now? We’re just satisfied to have a black President, but now we’ve turned our backs on Obama just like those of you who are dissing Bill.
