And why is it anyone’s business what a rapper chooses to do with his money? The keyword here is “his” not yours or ours. Black people always talk about wanting to be respected for being strong, black and independent men and women, but a lot of us aren’t able to do anything for ourselves and stand on our own two feet. We have this idea that if someone black becomes famous that they automatically have some obsurd obligation to give back to their communities. I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with that. But look what happened to Hammer? All those people he took out the hood and gave jobs to and look what happened as soon as he was broke. They all turned their backs on him. I’m sorry but all this brother sh*t don’t mean a thing to me. I’m not carrying around no grown ass man. Part of being a man is standing on your own two feet.

We as a people need to stop allowing our people to be pimped and exploited. This thug life and hip hop does more damage than help us as people. In all the years we allowed the hip hop industry to damage and pimp our black people, it has only left a handful (maybe 10 of the millions of African Americans that exist) with a few million in their pocket. Now when you look at cost of how its lowering and damaging us as a people, its embarrassing that we allow it and support this kind of exploitation. I say WE allow it because if we are supporting it when we allow stations like BET and MTV on our cable bill. BET pimps us just as much as MTV. We need to write these companies and also stop ordering their service or the services of anyone who things we are going to allow them to profit from our people by exploiting us at this level.

This is great article. The sad part is not that the rappers who earn millions of dollars go broke. But the irresponsible rappers influence people who are struggling to make it to imitate them and spend they money trying to be like the rappers in the videos. It’s amazing how see tricked out cars in the hood but no one owns any businesses, property, assets or anything that could build wealth. I’m still trying to understand why all the corner stores are owned by someone other than a black person. They don’t live with us but they will sure take our money to build their communities and families. Why don’t we own anything other than clubs, hair shops, and restaurants? Even the record labels aren’t owned by us, 1 basketball team and no football teams, but they are dominated by blacks. There are several businesses that are needed by our community and you would think the rappers would make moves to promote that instead of sex, materialism, violence, and drug dealing.
