Diddy makes a good point about white millionaires not being asked similar questions, but the fact remains that it is inappropriate for any child of any race to get such an extravagant gift. Such children don’t easily learn the value of becoming your own person and working for what you need and want. When a child turns 18 and goes to college, it is not appropriate to buy him or her a mansion, right? and setting up a trust that pays a grown child a large income for life is irresponsible as it tends to destroy the child’s work ethic and increases the chances of him or her becoming lazy. So just because you have super wealth does not mean you should go to the extreme in lavishing gifts on your child. Keep them comfortable without risking them becoming spoiled.

The publicity that they have received from this story cost them far less than it would have cost them to launch an advertising campaign that would have reached the same number of potential buyers. I don’t know if Maybach came to Diddy with the idea, or Diddy came to them, but I am confident that Diddy paid very little for this automobile – if anything at all. With the cache of Diddy’s name, the grandiose, lavish sweet (but manly) sixteen party, and the sheer ostensible audacity of conspicuous consumption, both Maybach and Diddy knew that this purchase would receive tons of publicity – and they were right. That’s why the rich keeps getting richer: people love to give them things for free because they know that they will ultimately get something back in return
