I think that Bi-Racial and Black and white are all wrong terms really. The Pocketbook analogy doesn’t make sense, you can’t go the ignorance of a white woman. You know it’s a shame at this day and age we are still talking about race. Most of the Americans are mixed anyway. I have nieces and nephews who are half white and half black. They all look white, but they will tell anyone who ask they are black. Their mother and father are still married and together for 16 years. They will tell anyone they are black, so I asked them does being black make them more special than being white? They have no way of answering the question because they have only been part of the African American side of their family. They know their mother is white but when they look at her she is black to them. Are they old enough to know the difference, YES. You are what you claim to be. Just about everyone is mixed with something in the United States. You may not know it or see it, but that does not mean its not true.

Man people always talk about what is racist and jump on black people when we try to look out for ourselves! I have a couple of friends that identify as biracial. Well, when your white parent raises you almost exclusively you just might want to express that part of your background more than the side that walked away. Perhaps if you studied your true African culture more thoroughly you might not have such a carnal, European-like view of what it means to be Black/African. You talk about blood/phenotype/genetics (you forgot to mention bio-chemistry which is far more accurate in explaining racial categories than the aforementioned) and make absolutely no mention of the African spirit. In fact, the African spirit seems to be somewhat void in many of your statements. Not only is your definition of the African diaspora extremely narrow and limited, but your blaming the fall of ancient African civilizations on “mixed people” is academically irresponsible. I commend your love for your people, but am sorry to see that you have chosen such a poor definition of whom your people are.

I think I see what she is getting at. What I think she is saying that those that would identify as biracial, would have more of an effect on Black folks and it still doesn’t deal with the reality that comes with race in this country. So, she might personally feel like she can identify as Black and it does make sense if you look at the socio-historical aspect of race in this country.

I also think that you can identify or relate to other aspects of one’s background if it is diverse, which is the case for most Americans regard less of race/ethnic identification. So, it’s not like she is necessarily denying other parts of her background as well.

Take a trip back about 300 to 350 years. Walk up to a slave master and tell him you aren’t black, you’re biracial. How many want to guess what he will do or say? We have to remember what black is people…it is simply the color of you’re skin, that’s it. Reason(s):

1. Historically (the One Drop Rule) had all BiRacial decendants being “Black”.

2. If you wish to ignore that and rightfully conclude (AND Correct everyone that knowingly/unknowingly) adheres to Appearance and “One Drop Rule”, you’d be more correct.

3. Also, as our society becomes more diverse, colorblind, integrated,… the reminants, attitudes, and mindsets that dominated in the past that had ALL Biracial Children (mostly) treated as minorities won’t exist anymore, at least not as prevalent.

Black is for life and if you have to constantly remind people in your day to day real life just how Black you are then you’re probably not Black at all. We do have less packages though. Perhaps you’d like to see the 50% or 25% Black deal?

I always said she remind me of Halle Berry.

For me, as a biracial woman, I won’t choose one race over the other simply because I caught hell from both growing up. I was too dark for the white kids and acted “too white” for the black. I came to terms with who I am long ago. Both races molded me not only physically, but emotionally and culturally as well. Denying either would mean denying a major part of who I am.

For the most part, white people view me as black and black people view me as white, and that’s fine. I learned long ago that it’s not about how others see me, but how I see myself.

It’s crazy how people let society define them. I don’t see how people find the term biracial. It takes 2 black people to make a black baby. If you want to identify as black because that’s how you feel culturally, that’s perfectly fine, but don’t let strangers define you. From my experience, many people see mixed people as just that: mixed. When I first saw her, I didn’t automatically know she was black.

There are only 3 races in the world, there is no such thing as a bi-racial race. Black is dominant and so anyone with black blood is black. Would anyone say Frederick Douglas, Booker T Washington was bi-racial. They go down in history as famous black men, yet their fathers were white. This separation started in slavery when the kids with white fathers were able to work in the house as house N——- but the darker ones were sent to the fields. They were treated better but still considered black and were sold on auction blocks like all the others.

I agree, Paula Patton is f**kin stupid. This is an insult to the white parent. It’s like they don’t exist or something. People who think it’s distancing themselves from “African American” or whatever, are insecure because they think no one wants to be black or whatever(even though it’s just a social category). Barack Obama is called black because that’s what he want’s to be called. I personally think of him as mixed but he can be whatever he wants, anyone can. So if she wants to be black and completely ignore her white ancestry fine. The dumb b***h
