I have been listening to hip hop since the late 80′s when I was a kid and if I didn’t grow up around black people and have them in my family I would think they were down right racist. My favorite political group was NWA, Now thats real political hip hop !

Excellent list. Although strong black brother is on on point with his albums. My two cents would be:

    X clan-To the East, Blackwards
    RBX-RBX files
    Common-Ressurection
    and one honorable mention:
Paris-the devil made me do it.
The album wasn’t great but at the time he kept the hard black political hip hop moving forward.

I agree with Dead Prez, but if ur talking about political black albums..where’s immortal technique, Paris, Poor Righteous Teachers, Chuck D, X-Clan….I could go on and on…

I think It’s safe to say All of Nas’s Albums are political masterpieces. The topic was decent somethin i have never seen on here though,I think a more interesting topic is how we deify celebrities and stuff and how it is wrong!

most of the wailers would need to be on this list, but mahalia jackson.i dont think ms jackson would approve of it,if she goes on the list you might as well put janet jackson on it.im mixed on alot of these people on this list,is it revolutionaries who did music or just niggas who had something to say.to brag about sex and drugs on one album and then talk bad about the system on the next doesnt make you that more political than whacko mike jackson or alvin and the chipmonks.

I remember reading one time a long set of comments (back and forth) on a forum were one young man tried to say hip hop did not start off as a political force, but was for pure entertainment. It of course was actually both. I wish he could see this list…I got a feeling he probably never heard of Gill Scott Heron! In fact I think we need a longer list or a Doc**entary. LOL. Sorry I’m getting carried away.
