Man, I have no clue how this show is so highly rated. It’s not funny at all. I can stand for the same ole stereotypes to be portrayed if the commentary’s deep and offers good and thorough explanation for our behavior, but this s**t just makes fun of ignorant and obese black people, I’ve tried so hard to laugh at this show so I don’t get called a hater, but I simply can’t even fix my face to smile at the s**t. I can even understand the stereotypes being displayed without a lot of deeper commentary if the characters are actually funny and realistic, but this show has none of the above. Spike just called it what it was. It doesn’t even have to be as deep and troubling as Rosewood (I could only watch that movie once.) but we have to do waaaaay better than this. Can I get lessons on how to get into the film business? I gaurantee I can do 1000 times better than this profitable garbage!

I feel there is a little love/hate on Spike’s part. The problem is Tyler Perry has put out movies that were good but did not do as well because he did not have Madea in them very few us of went to see them. If you watch his TV shows they do have a important messages in them and he uses African Americans of all shapes, shades and sizes (that is what the majority of us really like about him). We all have to start somewhere and I know in the future Mr. Perry will sharpen up his game my question is, will the average black person be ready for it and will there still be love/hate coming from people like Mr. Lee whom I like very much. I am shocked by Spike Lee, but that is his view point. Tyler Perry has put out some worthwhile movies, and it depends on the mentality of the person to catch the message or not. I mean, I believe Meet the Browns, and House of Payne are shows that are different and do provide serious messages and great acting. People need to stop being so damn critical of everything and just enjoy. I agree, if you want something different, make it yourself, and don’t downcast someone else’s creativity.

I like to hear about my history like the next person, and learning about our African culture. Nonetheless, I want to laugh sometimes as well, if that’s alright? Does that make me less interested in my black because I like to see my people sometimes make jokes, and do stupid stuff. Whites do it all the time, and they dont question their art of comedy and serious drama. We as a people need to chill out seriously.

What needs to be addressed is why are their a majority of white programs on television and not enough of Blacks, Puerto Ricans, and other ethnic groups. That needs to be looked at? Why can’t a black man or woman be the main protagonist in most mainstream movies? Observe and Question that Spike!

I’m not a great fan of Mr. Perry’s, what people need to understand that his shows are comedies! If the characters were white, would the shows still be considered buffonery? Any comedy stretching back to Martin with an predominately black cast has been considered “shucking and jiving” by those who could not so any better. Being someone who is laid off and possibly facing foreclosure, I love to sit back and watch something that can make me laugh and momentarily forget my troubles. Something that isn’t all white or size 4. Mr. Lee, produce a better comedy than those of Mr. Perry or shut up!

The answer to that is simple. Whites are the majority, why would the television reflect anything different?

For the record, I am happy dude is getting money. I’m not jealous and I doubt Spike (who has more money, fame, and respect) is jealous. But damn, can we expect more a screenwriter without being called a hater or a crab in a barrel? Now that’s some real and progressive talk. I talk s**t about Mr. Perry in hopes that he does better. Who knows, maybe he was making all this profitable garbage to build the platform for something better. If so, I hope he comes through with the best and most powerful movie I’ve seen. First of all, I feel that Tyler Perry has come a long way. His movies have a spiritual message in them, if anyone was paying attention. I feel his goal is to put out movies that the whole family can enjoy. As far as Spike Lee goes, yes Mr. Lee is a talented director, but i’m sorry the last good movie that man came out with was Malcolm X. since then Mr. Lee hasn’t came out with anything worth catching my attention. i love tyler perry and in my opinion his movies and plays are great. it amazes how that when a black man is doing something positive we want to find ways to bring him down. mr
perry has built a studio in atlanta where he will be able to produce black movies and keep black actors working. everytime you turn on the television you see white faces i watch house of payne faithfully and if i know i am not going to be home i record it so i can watch it later. mr.

The criticism of Tyler Perry is that he continues to perpetuate a very NEGATIVE stereotype that shows BLACK WOMEN as archetypal gun-toting floppy-breasted, house-coat and flip-flop wearing sass-talkin’ BIG MAMMIES, seeking to emasculate Black men — and the irony is that an effete and very fey-sounding BLACK MAN is playing this character (Madea).

This negative stereotype has represented BLACK WOMEN since Aunt Jemima and all of the negative connotation that derives from it exists until today — and Tyler Perry wants to perpetuate that demeaning and hurtful view of BLACK WOMEN?

Personally, I enjoy both Spike Lee and Tyler Perry films. However, I feel as if Mr. Lee shouldn’t have downed Tyler like he did. It’s hard enough as a Black actor/writer/director to produce anything in Hollywood, and for another Black man who has achieved this status downs another, it sends a negative message to not only the media but America as a whole. I’m with the old addage of if you don’t have anything nice to say about a person, don’t say anything at all–especially when it comes to the media! As Black people we should support each other when we are doing something positive and productive. I think that Tyler Perrys films are great, is send a message plus humor to all who enjoys. Im becomming an educated black woman, and I feel that the films he creates does not down the black community. Just like women it the urban videos dressing in a sexual manner. I agree with Spike Lee. From the first time I saw one of Tyler’s tv shows I reguarded him a fool and haven’t watch him since. What he lacks in intellegence he makes up in stupidity!

One thing people must understand is that most of his viewers (BLACK folks) and supporters, aren’t smart viewers. Many are caught up in his ignorance and many act out his stupid stunts in real life. The truth of the matter is that black comedy has always been a bit off-color and raunchy. The skits are base and embarrassing to mixed company. (ONE OF THE REASONS WHY WE ARE STEREOTYPED BY OTHERS).

Some of us, like Tyler Perry seem to be born with a natural ability to exaggerate situations and stories so that each explanation comes out funny. Physical animation goes along with this trait and out of this mixture arises another leftover trauma of slavery-one of classic buffoonery…Also called “cutting the fool,”

It’s amazing. It seems that once again, Spike Lee spends more time critcizing other filmmakers than he does making good movies. The only movies I remember him getting any critical acclaim for is “Do The Right Thing” and “Malcolm X”. I consider myself an intelligent Black professional woman and I applaud Mr. Perry for his own creativity and the fact that he doesn’t use a lot of vulgar language or nudity to tell his story. That’s just it he usually just tells a story. I can’t say that I find everything he does fulfilling, but we all have various opinions as to what is funny or not. It’s our right to choose. I think people think most of his critics are upset that he came out of nowhere and surpassed those who have be trying to get attention for years. The other problem seems to be that some of us forget that there are “buffoons and coonery” in EVERY community. I mean isn’t most comedy based on the foolishness we see in everyday life? I absolutely agree with Spike Lee. From the first episode of his TNT series I have viewed Tyler Perry’s shows as “slapstick” comedy for an ignorant and non-educated audience! Apparently buffoonery is in vogue for people without discerning taste! Tyler Perry should be ashamed of himself! He should stick to movies and stage plays!

mr. lee if you don’t like what your watching then you do have the right to turn the channel. i do whenever i see one of your movies on. the only thing i can agree with you on is that we need to do bettet but not in the context of which you meant. We need to do better by encouraging our young black artists and congratulating them in their endeavors. Someone did it for you! I dont know about Spike, but I use my TV for entertainment purposes also. When I want to learn something they have a channel for that or I can pick up a book. When I want to be entertained they have a channel for that. This sounds like old fashion HATERADE. Yes, I feel the show are a little goofy and the acting is not that great but I didnt tune it to see Oscar calibur acting. I tuned in to be entertain and thats what Mr Perry does, he entertains me. Whoa!! Spike is hating for real. We haven’t even heard from him in a long minute, but when we do finally hear from him, he’s putting another brother down. Hmmm, what’s wrong with this picture? I LOVE Meet The Browns, it is my favorite show on t.v, and that’s saying a lot b/c I don’t watch t.v that much. Spike needs to stop that and get back on the bus.

I respect Spike Lee’s word and I’ll say one thing about sitcoms aimed at black audiences–whether it’s Tyler Perry’s shows or BET shows like The Game–most of the characters, what comes out of their mouths, makes them just walking stereotypes. It’s ridiculous. While sitcoms aimed at non-black audiences (mainstream?) don’t necessarily have more realistic characters (that’s probably the nature of a sitcom), it’s somehow that much more glaring on sitcoms that are clearly/obviously aimed at black audiences. Amos and Andy? Maybe not. But how far off is it really?

I totally agree with Spike. It seems that Perry’s popularity appeals to the same crowd that thought that UPN and the WB was giving AmeriKKKa a correct view on black culture. The only reason why Perry is so successful is through bootlegging his own stageplays that combined spookism (what some call religion and are absolutely afraid to question) and pop culture references. Don’t get me wrong I’m glad that he isn’t sleeping in parks anymore. Let’s face it, when you don’t have anything you can pray to the sky to an intangible, invisible ghost all you want to, the reality is that he got up and hustled his way out of poverty. Why? Because sex, religion, violence or anything to stimulate the senses will sell (I said violence because Madea does pack! How very “Christlike”). He basically found “God” within himself (something that these so-called reverends don’t want us to know about and yes, it’s in the bible) His plays were a bit sappy with all of the spirituals in the least opportune of moments. Why? Because discrediting God is taboo (seemingly more so with black people). Yes, I know that spirituals played a role historically. But, history should be left in the minds and hearts of all and travel only through the words from old to young. C’mon this isn’t the days of the trianglular trade route anymore. His sitcoms are less religious. So all you have left is black people grinnin’ and a hollerin’ and looking like freakin’ jiggaboos and some of the humor in it is quite bawdy or should I say “more secular” (this is in response to the “intelligent black professional woman who obviously has not seen Love and Basketball; The Kings of Comedy; Bamboozled….please watch that if nothing else; Summer of Sam or any of Lee’s films since the late ’90′s”). So yes, Perry is living high on the hog at the expense of denigrading the black race. Oh, and for the record ATL. has been on the map. Thank Andrew Young for that.

Oh, and forget entertainment, we could benefit more from EDUTAINMENT!

Why is it anytime a black persons offers an insightful and real opinon of another black person we scream “HATER” we really need to get over ourselves. It is that same slave ingnorant mentallity that is cripling us as a people. Spike Lee makes some valid points. Anothe example, Denzel Washingtons best movie to me was John Q. However, he wins an Oscar for acting like a hood in Training Day! White people don’t even want to recognize us unless we are being portrayed as clowns, thugs, or gangsters.

It doesn’t sound like Spike is ‘hating’; it sounds like he is very accurate. That’s why I don’t watch BET and why I instantly change the channel on TNT when that Meet the “Idiots’ crap comes on. I can’t stand these shows where black people feel that have to act a straight fool to get a laugh. The Cosby show was funny. Living Single was funny. A Different World was very entertaining. And none of those shows had blacks acting like they were straight from the freaking jungle. Spike Lee isn’t hating, he’s RIGHT.

Spike Lee has represented us in honorable ways on the big screen.Although sometimes he has bombed at the box office and some of his movies totally sucked i.e. Miracle at Saint Annes.. and the that Zodiac killer joint. But he’s right on point with this one. Why would this brother Tyler Perry continue with this backwards, stepping fetch en routine. Hasn’t he made enough money that he can do something with more character. To the poster talking about inner self hate…I’d rather a black person with the type of power to influence the way we and others view us to keep their inner self hate inner instead of displaying it every week in prime time. Ask yourself why do they put only this junk on TV.T.P needs to step up his game this s*** makes a mockery of the advances black people have made in the entertainment industry.A lot of black actors and actresses prayed for a day when they could have roles of relevancy and not have to play fools just so they can eat.

I half way agree with spike as far as meet the browns that it is not entertaining and it is our fault for watching. I cant comment on the amos and andy phrase because I never watched amos and andy and I would not be able to properly compare.

My main issue is the black audience. Ty giggs had a tv series that was very good but black folks would not support it because not enough ” Dark” skiined women. It did not matter that he had dark skinned black, latino’s, asians, just black women and well just the color spectrum on his show. all the minorities were well represented.

We were not just satisified. I can complain about the Bernie mack show and the chris rock show for not having light skinned black folks but i will not. why ? because they are black , they are representing well and its entertaining.

I agree with Spike on this one I have seen Amos and Andy episodes and they depicted us as backwards monkey’s I dont agree with all of Tyler subject matter but when it is serious and meaningful the majority wont support it! So you have a serious catch 22 going on!

Stop taking all of this stuff to heart. It is for the purpose of entertainment. If it does not entertain you, then you should not watch. I don’t care that Spike voiced his opinion on the entertainment value of Tyler’s programs. However, I am thoroughly upset that he couldn’t pull Tyler aside and voice his opinion. However if Spike did, think about how people thought your movies were too radical for that day and time. However a lot of us still supported and watched them and still do. I agree with Spike Lee on this one. I watched one Tyler Perry movie and have NEVER watched another. Ditto for the tv shows he has created. I didn’t like the protrayl of black men in his movie. I wouldn’t call it coonery but buffoonery is pretty accurate.

First of all, let me admit that I am a huge fan of Spike Lee and Tyler Perry. But I also admire many talented people our race has produced… Cornel West, Travis Smiley, Louis Farrakhan,Saul Williams,John Coltrane,Miles Davis,Jim Brown,Sidney Poitier, etc …the list is infinite. I am inspired by intellectuals of this caliber. So the question is not: should Spike Lee bash Tyler Perry’s shows. The question is: how large is the intellectual gap between where we are as Black people in 2009 and where we should be as Black people in 2009.
Secondly, for the so called intellectuals: should not our brothers and sisters be entertained by a medium suitable to their intellectual level…….Yes I can and have watched Cornel West all day on CNN but most of my family and friends do not take an interest.
It is our responsibility to introduce “thought and thinking” to our people… I believe Tyler Perry and Spike Lee are doing a tremendous job introducing provocative thought to our people…but their target audiences are two different groups of black people. You don’t feed infants adult food and you don’t feed adults baby food. But you nourish both with the highest quality and the best nutrient to grow. I believe Tyler Perry and Spike Lee are feeding us material to grow on.

Spike was dead on, every other punchline in Perry’s minstrel shows is someone shouting, dancing, or eating.

What is sad is that we as Blacks, African-americans, or what ever you want to call us, can’t seem to laugh anymore! Why should we be serious all the time? There is a time and a place for everything. Yes you may not like the movies and shows of Tyler Perry but why rag on just him? Rag on the likes of Steve Harvey or Cedric the Entertainer or any of the other comedic entertainers that are out there. The ones that have done similar movies and shows to Tyler Perry’s. The problem is we are trying to elevate ourselves to levels we do not understand and come across as arrogate and hostile and wonder why we still can’t get ahead. TAKE TIME TO LAUGH!! You want to educate our young brothers and sisters, then stop making movies and go into the classroom or into the homes of our young brothers and sisters. That’s where my education comes from, NOT from a film director or a movie star or a news anchor or any other entertainer. I like both Spike Lee and Tyler Perry and I feel that Spike Lee’s comments were uncalled for.

Spike is right about one thing: All Black People aren’t monolithic: We all don’t like chicken, watermelon, and use a hot comb.

I like Meet the Browns ( sheerly for the comedy),
hate House of Payne ( no black man I know would put up with a Crack head wife), and
outside of the Madea stuff, I can take or leave
most of Perry’s work ( ‘cept Dady’s little girls,
because I did Idris Alba’s Talent from waaaay back).

Black people can be intellectual and still enjoy a good laugh now and again. When we get serious we can watch Spike, when we need to
“blow it out” we watch TP.

There’s room for both, and I’d rather they both do what their each good at, rather than

without expecting Madea to be arrested in

I agree with Spike Lee 100%. I watched one Tyler movie and was done after that. His plays were MUCH better… the films just seem full of stereotyped… black people going to go see and laugh at black people. It’s not very intellectual, and l can see how he would compare it to Amos N’ Andy. White people go to see Tyler Perry movies to laugh at us, honestly. Granted, some of them actually like them…. LOTS like to see us portrayed on TV. LIKE Amos N’ Andy did… Amos N’ Andy had over 50 million listeners and when it went into films for the first time… white people broke their neck to get in the theater to see it. Mrmaharris you are right on. I don’t think Tyler Perry’s films are making fun of us at all. He actually shows every side of blacks. There are always successful blacks right next to unsuccessful ones. In A Diary of a Mad Black Woman he showcased two successful attorneys and in The Family that Preys he showcased a Top black female CEO played by Robin Givens.

Where is the Amos & Andy? Spike, and I love the brotha, but he is just mad that Tyler made 40 million in a weekend. That is the bottom line. Now I do like him and I am a fan of his work, but from what I hear about his last film, Miracle on St. Anna, he needs to go back and work on his craft and stop hating on Tyler Perry. But in my book both are great filmmakers.

I will say that in TPs movies the dark man is always the bad guy and the light-skinned guy is the hero(except Daddys lil girls) but after watching “Bamboozled” and doing some research I found that past and present coonery and buffoonary is gone to far.The rappers are shufflin niggas,and some of TPs characters can be viewed as ignant stereotypes with Mr. Brown being the perfect Uncle Tom. You got to admit Spike has only used characters like that to teach a one time lesson to us. Tyler Perry is successful at his productions, he seems to enjoy cross dressing, the scriptures in the Bible forbide such behavior, I have listened to comments of some people who say he does this cross dressing and female portaryial for the money. A man will sell his sole for money. Tyler Perry’s productions are not of good will, but God gave us Gentiles up to a debased mind. I say to all turn from all your wicked ways. I’m sure Tyler’s productions are cause for the stumbling of some of God’s children. Perhaps Tyler does not take into consideration, the negative influence his stories carry. A good story doe’s not show evil rewarding evil but usually what pain evil leads to. Perry knows what’s good and what’s bad, he is trying to make money on what he thinks people want to see, not what people need to know. Perry needs to be a leader rather than a joker. I understand that Spike Lee and Tyler Perry have different views and differnt contributions to the industry. Just because someone is different does not make them wrong. But please let’s not forget the contributions that Tyler Perry is now making in the film industry. Tyler cannot save a soul but maybe he can help open up someone eyes. And Sheldons’ “Miracle”…it wasa miracle that snorefest made it to DVD! And has little Sheldon made anything that the average Black person can relate to? It all boils down to continuity and substance whenever we chose to watch either one of Spike Lees or Tyler Perry s films. In terms of, film selections ? Hopeful it will be based on personal preferences rather than it being warranted from the degree a separation caused by the hysteria of their current in differences. Which were not fueled or generated by public opinion ? Surely, does this not infringe upon the artist’s right of expression? “ If we don’t remember the mistakes of Our Ancestors “ “We will repeat those same mistakes ” In terms of, historical content and the cultural/ dimensions of the characterizations involved in the creative expression of Black films ? This is why I have NEVER watched a Tyler Perry movie. I would watch the one Jill Scott was in for free, but it hasn’t crossed my path yet. I accidentally saw one of his TV shows once, and was like “what is this???” It was coonery and buffoonery, indeed.
The Madea stuff I don’t get and is just an excuse for him to wear women’s clothes. From the negative stereotypes of women, I think he has a lot of resentment toward Black women. And speaking of Jill, I hate that he made her so undesirable in the movie. I think it affected her big time, and that’s why she rushed out and married the first man she could after her divorce.

What is not happening is they are not coming together and leveraging their wealth and star power to create economic power – to create and develop businesses that manufacture products or at least control the importation and distribution of products that are beneficial and needed by families. Invest in Black farms, invest in establishing food processing plants. One of my colleagues has a program and they have established a processing plant in West Africa with products ready for export – organic grains, herbs, etc. Black wealth must come together. The diamonds are controlled by the most dangerous exploiters of African wealth: Debeers – remember apartheid and Israel the great support of South Africa – remember the marathon man – Euro and American and Jewish corporate exploiters bleed Africa and the planet yet Black artists spend millions on diamonds – funding their own oppression and the continued oppression of Africans. Honestly, its a damn shame to see what Spike Lee did. Opinions are like a**holes, virtually everone has one. Spike is making his over-inflated perception of self over-ride his conscious brain.

I’m not a big Tyler Perry fan, nor Spike Lee for that matter. But the bottom line is that if Spike felt so strongly about his perception of the art that Tyler produces, then be a man and express it to him – personally. Don’t use a national medium by which to criticise another black man.

I’ve seen most of Tyler’s work and I would’nt compare it to Amos & Andy, and I think the “Brown” character is funny..”House of Payne isn’t funny at all…I just wish we would flock to see T.D. Jakes’ films, because they are wayyy better than any Tyler Perry film…and to the person who said Spike hasn’t made any films of substance in a while, I challenge you to rent “Miracle @ St. Anna”…

Here we go again! A black man putting down another black man. What happened to lift up another? Spike Lee needs to get a grip. Stop being a hater and be supportive of a young black man that isn’t hanging on a street corner selling crack or in the unemployment line. I don’t see Tyler Perry’s movies in the same eyes as Spike Lee one bit. I have enjoyed every single one of Tyler Perry’s movies and plays. Keep doing your thing Tyler. Spike Lee, you need to learn to “do the right thing” and support your fellow black artists.

oh my. i love Spike lee and I love Tyler Perry. Spike is always gaurenteed to give us a story with s lesson and Tyler is destined to make us laugh. I think what he said are his personal thoughts and we as a people should come together to fix things instead of just criticize. Help the brother out if you feel he is doing something that is not so good. Is that bad? to extend a hand. I feel Tyler did what he had to do to make it in life and he loves it, and those a good survival skills. Its the mentality of some blacks that keep them thinking like that its not comical television from a creative author.

I refuse to believe that Spike Lee is jealous of Tyler. I think that if Spike wanted to make movies, and shows that portrayed African Americans in a silly manner he would have long ago. I believe that Spike was spending all of his time trying to make the world take us seriously. On the other hand with all of the craziness going on in the world some people find healing in humor. If laughing can help someones life feel a little better than do you. Tyler’s success by making these movies has just been his destiny being for filled. I didn’t use to find much in life to laugh about, felt life was to serious to act a fool full time. I can now appreciate my fellow neighbor that choose to laugh than to cry.

The problem I see is 1 black man putting down another, which seems like that’s exactly what they (white folks) wanna see. Instead of supporting and/or talking to Perry he wants to go public and put down the brutha. So what…..I love to laugh and if I want a good laugh all I no is to turn on house of payne. Even though his shows are funny he brings real life to the t.v. screen. I don’t have anything against Tyler Perry but I agree with Spike Lee. Large segments of the black community promote ignorance, crime aka the thug life and nonsense. I understand that we have habits that are hard to break but we must! It’s okay to laugh but let’s have some balance like intelligent and sophisticated comedy.
Can we please get rid of the word hating. How about I express the way I feel, think, this is just my belief or my opinion. When black people release intelligent movies we don’t support them. Don Cheadle had films like Traitor and Talk to Me. Spike Lee made the Inside Man and Miracle at St Anna. Why do you think Dave Chapplle walked away from his show?

Heaven forbid another black critiques another black or better still has an opinion that falls outside of mainstream black America. Not all of Tyler’s stuff is bad. Not all of monsieur Lee’s was great either. There have always been two black Americas. Those who think real theater is Tyler Perry and others like him, and those that enjoy August Wilson and others like him. We’re no different than the rest of America. There are those of us who are cultured and those of us who have no idea of what culture is.

What are you guys kidding? There is nothing wrong with Tyler Perry’s artistic impression. Giving our opportunity we all would express ourselves in a manner in which some would not understand. Maybe Spike is a bit envious of Tyler’s fast success. I remember supporting some of Spike’s terrible works as well. Spike grow into the mentor that you have become. Stop criticizing and start advising. We need no further division.

I say allow the man to have his time. These movies will be remembered. But the truth is I have not once went back to watch any of Spike’s movies twice except Malcolm X. Most of his movies are good but too long to catch the point.

That’s exactly what I do. By pass the shows on tv. You’re very welcome. Most people don’t know the meaning of “hating on so and so”. Not agreeing or being a YES man/woman does not mean one is hating. One is simply disagreeing or expressing oneself. Only an ignorant mind puts it in the category of haterism. I’m a grown woman. Why do I need to be jealous of TP. Most women are jealous of othe women or women they know on a personal level. I like the guy, just think his writing skills can use some work. Some say when other races act a fool it’s okay, so why can’t we. Again, we still haven’t realized that we can’t do what they do and get the same respect they get. His show is successful because the characters act a darn fool. Shows like the Game, The Cosby show where we are portrayed as successful, intelligent, educated, those shows get cancelled. Tasha Mack ghetto, please. She has ghetto in her but her role on The Game portrays her also as classy, smart and a business woman. She can hang with the big boys. Ghetto no way. I don’t see her smoking crack, doing drugs, dressing tacky. She is a real character that has evolved. TP has crack mamas, 11 year olds pregnant, a son too dumb to finish college, etc… That’s real, yes, but it also is how mainstream America wants us to view ourselves. Do you realize when A Different World came on how many of our own then applied for college. Positive shows inspire us. That is why TP is doing well and The Game, A Different World, Girlfriends (successul BW), were kicked to the curb. They prefer to laugh at us, AT US, not with us. That’s not hating baby, that’s the truth. Know the difference. I have every confidence that TP will step up his game. He is still learning. That’s my opinion, call it hate if you want, but I’ll excuse the ignorance that eludes from your misunderstanding of the English language.

i wholeheartedly agree with spike,Tyler Perry does make black people look bad and coonish!! the jokes and humor on his shows are so lowbrow and poorly written that i can’t bear to watch. he’s gotten a lot better with his movies but those tv shows have got to go!

I agree with Spike Lee. I enjoy his movies but there are times I hope white people don’t see them. I know that sounds bad but there are times when i’m watching the tv show, watching the plays, and even the movies that I feel embarrassed or offended by the “humor” he uses. Not all black families have crackheads not all black families have baby mama drama. I think its time to point the positivity of african american life!

last time I checked Tyler Perry made comedies and Spike Lee did not. If he has a problem with Tyler Perry’s movies being ignorant he shouldn’t stop there. Clearly Tyler Perry’s movies have a message. I feel that everyone one if you look up or down your family tree has all the issues that he portrays in his movies. I find all of Perry’s movies to be uplifiting hopeful and very funny. As far as Spike I supported him when he was doing him, but face it his movies were not that great or that thought out. My first thought was crabs in a barrel when I read this article. It’s enough work out their for all of you to get paid. My question is which one is giving back to the community when they make all these millions from the black supporters. What communities have you help rebuild since you made your millions with the support of the folks who supported you.

There is room for all filmmakers. Why tear this man down? I don’t understand why is it when someones’ attention has died down in the spotlight they have to tear someone else down who’s getting the attention now. I supported Spike with all his movies when he came about. I’ve seen them all. He was controversial and sent us messages. We got the message and passed them down. Tylers’ plays are funny, and usually all plays have a message about how good God is with great singing. If you’re not into that, that’s fine, but you don’t have to tear a man down for having a vision and becoming very successful. Don’t really care too much what Spike Lee has to say about Tyler Perry. I prefer Tyler Perry’s stuff to Spike Lee’s. The majority of the Spike Lee movies I watched I found boring, and I couldn’t relate to most of them. On the contrary, I found Tyler Perry movies to be entertaining, and could relate to a few of them.
Spike can say what he wants. I am still more likely to go see a Perry Tyler movie than to see a Spike Lee movie.
