Being that it is set in New Orleans… the color issue is not a big deal to me. Creole people come in many shades from white to light, tan, milk chocolate, and dark chocolate hues. What I DO find annoyingly offensive and possibly racists is the caricature of the bug in this trailer. The jacked up teeth and southern affectation seems to be counterproductive to all the exciting buzz of Disney finally creating a “black” princess to market worldwide.

Im excited that Disney has made there first black princess. I like the fact that its setup in LA. But i dont see and issue with the prince being white or Creole or whatever nationality he is supposed to be. I see interracial couples everyday. But the bug with the missing teeth I don’t like that.

Look many may disagree, but I’m not feeling this interracial animation with a female black cinderella type character who is looking for her prince and when she do find him and he’s cauasian? I would not even let any young black female child watch this for subliminal suggestion is at work here clearly as day for the message is for the black woman to choose a cauasian man over your black man. Black folks need to boycott this picture and don’t allow any of our childrens to watch this filth. This movie is saying many things on different levels and one is the black man is not a savior for a black woman but a cauasian man is one? I do not know what my people are thinking that this is ok, but it is not ok because as a african living in america and all of our ancestors had suffered and endured for generations over four hundred year of abuse and it’s still going on today so when is we going stand up and put a end to this nonsense!

to me the prince looks like he’s high yellow. i don’t see the issue. does the bug look that bad, it’s disney, no one complained about the crab in the little mermaid.

would there have been complaints if sebastien would have had dreads and big lips? he did have big lips too. i never heard any complaints there. boycott this movie if u want but jeez it’s a cartoon, it’s meant to be funny, not a sterotype. i do see y most people are upset, but this is y we talk to our children. they are not going to see the bug with jacked up teeth as anything other than tat, a character who seriously needs the dentist

People sure can get all worked up over some nonsense….first my boy Chris Brown and Rhianna, Obama filling out tounement brackets and showing up on Jay Leno, now this garbage…it’s a CARTOON, if it was a black prince then it would be a “why the – black – prince gotta be a frog?” issue or something that has to do with black men dating white women. people in this world during this age will NEVER be satisfied with anything anyone ever does….and I wonder why people don’t like my attitude….hmmmmm

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/sweet-n-evil-89/ sweet-n-evil-89

Hell he looks Creole to me… I may be wrong but isn’t the story set in New Orleans?

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/sweet-n-evil-89/ sweet-n-evil-89

Oh and I think that boycotting the movie is just a little too extreme. It is just a cartoon. Most kids won’t even notice that’s its a “white” and black prince and princess. Just let that go. Can’t make some people happy for nothin. smh

I agree with bestrongblac. For those of you who see nothing wrong or see it as a non-issue — I understand your wanting to be “above” the nonsense. But with that being said … when I was in the movie theater weeks ago and first saw the large cardboard promo for the movie, I said to my fiance’ “The Prince is going to be White … I bet he will”.

If the cartoon showed two male characters kissing, you would say they were pushing a gay agenda. So what is this then? Just ask yourselves, why couldn’t her “Prince aka Dream Man” be a young Black man? What you are being told is that young Black men do not rate being a Prince. Only the White young man can be the ideal mate for this beautiful young Black girl. Cartoons are not just cartoons anymore. Political agendas and social attitudes are pushed in cartoons regularly. I thought everyone knew this.

The Disney producers sat down in a big room and made the “purposeful” decision to make a Caucasian the love interest of this “first Disney Black Princess”. One commenter said “the kids won’t notice this anyway”. Uhhh, you must mean the retarded kids on the short bus, because all the other kids will notice the race of the Princess AND the Prince as soon as they are shown on screen.

You folks do what you want of course but personally I do NOT like it and my 8 y/o daughter will not see it. Even SHE asked me “Dad, why isn’t the Prince Black?”. My feeling is that it is an insult to young Black men.

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/shaggakhan2009/ shaggakhan2009

“It’s set in Louisiana, he could be Creole” someone said. Well that still makes him White. But even so, ask yourself WHY? — Why was a Caucasian (or Caucasian looking) character created as opposed to making the Prince a young attractive Black man?

Someone said “It’s just a cartoon”. No it’s not.
Let’s use logic, shall we? — At a minimum, Disney is pushing the liberal idea of a color blind society into childrens minds (how nice). At the extreme, they are saying young Black men are not “prince” material. Either way they are pushing their liberal “agenda” in an innocent cartoon. Get it? — If it’s “just a cartoon” as some of you say then there should be NO agenda. Right? (logic is a wonderful thing).

FIRST of all the Princess IS NOT LOOKING FOR A PRINCE in the story, do your homework and go to the website!!!!. the princess is a hard working young woman trying to make things happen for herself and falls in love in the process so what if hes white. Look at Pocahontas, think of this! if it takes place in America interracial coupling is bound to Happen……Hopefully they’ll make another BLACK PRINCESS W/ A BLACK PRINCE……..who knows they might have DREADs or BRAIDSs too

This is similar to me and my daughters father, who is lighter than me and of mix background, this can also make the kids of mixed background feel more comfortable….i do believe we should look for a full Black couple from Disney next
