First off, I think that it would be a great idea. It is about time that now that we have an African American President, we should have more actors playing “colour-blind” roles. He actually got nominated for an academy award for best supporting actor this year. So if he can do it, so can Jamie Foxx. You go Jamie!

It will never happen because, as we all know most Italian/Americans will be fuming…..at the thought that some ‘mooli” will play the “King Of Italian/Americans”, Frank Sinatra. I know what I speak of because the racial divide still exists. I’m a half black/half italian woman and I’ve been going through this all my life. My mother is a full blooded Italian from Italy and I was born there. She was never accepted by her family and neither was I. When she came to the US….she was not accepted by the blacks. I was called all kinds of names all my life….but i survived. So if you know anything about Northern NJ or Hoboken, NJ ….where Frank was from….then you will agree that no black man will ever play Frank Sinatra. It’s unfortunate…..but true!

What about Ray Liota, he played Frank Sinatra in the HBO movie “The Rat Pack”. There must be numerous actors out there who could pull this off?

we don’t want white people playing roles as a black person..so why would it make sense to do the exact opposite. Sinatra is white let a white man play him. There is a difference between colorblindness and stupidity. Just like all the movies and caricatures of Jesus always being depicted as white. If you are going to tell a 2D/3D story of someone at least get their race correct.

If Foxx gets this part it will possibly be one of the first times an African American plays a Caucasian in a serious acting role. Even though a few have played Caucasians in comedies, I am not aware of any serious roles that could put them in the running for an Oscar or Golden Globe.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson who starred in “Walking Tall” didn’t not change his color. The movie is based on a true story and the sheriff in real life is white.

I think this is a wrong move but not for the reasons that others have mentioned already. He just finished starring in the movie called the Soloist.Like Ray, and the Soloist, this is the same type of movie. I think Jamie is in danger of being movie type cast, if he has not already been labeled already.

Ideally this is the point; if whites have historically been cast to play non-white roles then what’s the problem with a non-white playing a white character (real or fictional)?

Some characters are so ingrained in people’s mind as being one way that to attempt to portray them as something other than they are just isn’t gonna work. It’s not racism. It’s just common sense. Sinatra is one of those people, IMO. I’d give Jamie Foxx a role playing someone else who was originally a white person, but not Sinatra. Besides, Italian people ain’t having it. Trust me on this.
