From TheRoot.com:

On the red carpet at the BET Awards, as CNN’s Don Lemon interviewed him, Joe Jackson was contemptuous and put-off, willing to give only terse, perfunctory answers to complicated questions. Jackson, resembling a baked potato in a pair of cheap sunglasses, came off more as a gold miner eager to stake a claim than the grieving father of his world-famous son.

I have friends who have lost parakeets, dogs, guinea pigs and wino uncles, and they’ve spent more time in mourning than Michael Jackson’s father. I’ve been more distraught over bad sushi.

I was in shock the day he died, in disbelief the second day. By the third day I was just numb. But when I found the pictures taken of him during rehersals for his upcoming concert series, that’s when I just broke down. He didn’t look like a man who was about to die. He was full of life. Peace Mike J.

You can’t judge anyone by the way they handles someones death. Everyone doesn’t handle it like you and your friends who lost pets. Just incase you didn’t know we are all different. Some people can recovery quicker than others. Joe Jackson probably knew the media was just waiting to get a picture of him crying so he trys to appear strong for his family. He could very well cry in private but you would never know b/c your not there. this was a useless story based on feelings not facts.

Joe Jackson, in my opinion, makes Matthew Knowles look like a choir boy. He’s a cantankerous son of a b***h who needs to go sit his ole baked potato faced ass down somewhere. How are you going to manage a new group when you’re one foot in the grave, yourself..nigga!!

I agree with the poster that said that we all deal with death in our own ways, but from the reports I’m hearing about, he might as well have been like Samuel L. Jackson’s character in The Great White Hype, when his “white hope” got beaten and Sam started rubbing shoulders with another boxer. Shame on you, Joe. They should bury you right next to Ike when you pass.

I know people handle deaths in different ways but when this fool got on the mic and started talking about his new record company… my jaw dropped. I think alot of Mike’s fans loved him more than his own father. smh…

This is a bunch of bull the media is trying to rail road Joe Jack and you all know it. The media has been looking for something to tarnish the Jackson family the minute Micheal died. Joe is a old school cat and we all know how the old school are when it comes to death and dismay…So for people to let the media brain wash them into thinking he didn’t care about his son are ignorant. He is just a lean, stern, and strong individual whom wants to morn in private and doesn’t have to put his business in the streets for America’s selfish love affair with Stars and there private lives.

The media isn’t trying to railroad Joe Jackson. This guy is a damn clown… how are you gonna promote your damn record label after your son just died. It has nothing to do with the fact that Michael Jackson is his son… I’d say that about ANY father trying to do the same thing. This was definitely not the place to do that. I’m sure he is hurting, but come on now… that was wrong in every way.

Bad PR move Mr Jackson . Secondly how disgraceful to market your new record company.

I’m still in disbelief how Joe acted like that. He made Matthew Knowles look like a great father, and Ike Turner like a first-class citizen. You would think he would have more compassion since his son died. He always was your son long before he was named The King of Pop. This was not the time nor the place, to promote your record label. My mom always said that money is the root of all evil. That statement still lies true today.

am i heartless if i said i didn’t care that he died? the media, as well as people are jokes. when the man was alive most of them didn’t even care about the guy. the guy is dead and now people grieve. i mean the guy wasn’t going to live forever, on top of that the guy didn’t look like he was going to live long anyway.

this is not about some faceless person grieving over him, this is about his own FATHER, while people act like its nothing not to grieve. If one of my children died before me, I’d be in mourning for days, and not want to be out cavorting. He’s wrong, regardless of how WE felt about MJ, how his own family reacts is different.

Now I understand why Michael distanced himself from some family members…it still cost him in the long run…R.I.P. Michael Jackson

Oh you guys just dont know the half about Joe Jackson….Ask the people @ Steeltown Records in Gary, Indiana esp. Gordon Keith, the man responsible for recording the Jacksons first and never got any credit for it, because of Joe’s shady ass………

Listen, after all this is still MJ’s father. Despite his shortcomings…unlike a lot of us black fathers he raised his family. He may be a bit old and somewhat feeble-minded and somewhat opportunistic, but he was there for his family. You all cannot take that away from the man. Ask yourselves…where in the hell are your fathers? I had an abusive step-father and I regret the abuse, but I guarantee that i would not be where I am if it wasn’t for him being around. Much good came out of the bad….the fact is many parents do not understand how to raise children, at the same time, many kids today are uncared for and out in the street while their parent choose crack and other drugs over them. I still applaud Joe Jackson…I am not his judge.

I’m going to have to agree with you Raheem. These people didn’t even care for him when he was living and now that he’s gone? they want to care? give me a break. Some of them that’s grieving are so fake.
