“Precious” Breaks Box Office Records In Limited Release

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Oscar hopeful “Precious: Based On The Novel ‘Push’ By Sapphire” was a hit with audiences this weekend.

The gritty inner-city drama, executive produced by Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry, made $1.8 million at 18 theaters in its first weekend of limited release, according to Variety.

The film scored an average of $100,000 per theater — reportedly a record.

    I’m with you drk choco..it didnt come to where i live either and I was so looking forward to seeing this movie only to be really ticked off when it didnt come to where i live…grrrr…and if it made 1.8 mil at 18 theatres..imagine what it could’ve made had they released the movie nationwide. I hope the opening numbers gives them an incentive to release this movie nationwide so ALL of us are able to see it and dont have to wait for it to come out on dvd.
