From Pitts Indeed, by Jonathan Pitts-Wiley

This is the last few hundred words I’ll devote to Michael for a while.

40 out of 50: The number of years Michael Jackson spent on earth as a public figure. 5: The (likely) number of years he remembered before becoming a star.

Then life changed. He was a poor kid from Gary, Indiana who suddenly had every thing a kid could want. Why did he have it? Because he was young and talented. Unlike most kids, charismatic youth didn’t merely get Michael his way; it allowed him to make a more than comfortable living in which people showered him with fanatic adulation. For Michael Jackson, idyllic childhood memories include working full time as the charismatic boy frontman of a band everyone loved.

But there were traumas as well. Some of the most significant include the fading of the Jackson Five, being told he was no longer the youthful star people once knew (and this doesn’t begin to take into account the affect his father had on his life). As he developed and aged within youth, he felt the sting of premature mortality otherwise known as adolescence. He stopped being cute and developed acne. Gone was the cute youngster. In his place was a young man going through an awkward phase. In life as he knew it, he had grown old and unloved.

And before he had a chance to live among us mortals, to go through the unique growing pains many child stars experience, Off The Wall happened and he was once again a superstar, handsome and loved. I think it’s this moment, just before he re-entered the stratosphere he decided: I’ll never experience anything like adolescence again. And here, Michael Jackson’s maturation was arrested forever.

    To Mr. Jonathan Pitts-Wiley,

That was an amazing summary! And as a fan who feels like he lost someone close, I appreciate you open whatever eyes hadn’t been opened to the severe life style he lead and therefore should not be judged as an average person.

Wow…I’ve been saying this for such a LONG time and it feels good to know I’m not the only one left in the world with common sense!!!!

I admire Michael Jackson tremendously for his impact not just on music, and the world, but honestly, on LIFE itself (ANYbody whose death affects THAT many lives around the world, has impacted life).

I am not the type that feels because someone is a celebrity and I like their work, that makes them incapable of committing heinous acts. That’s ignorant. With that being said, I know I wasn’t there and I could never know for sure, but I truly don’t believe that he ever molested those kids. Reason being:

    1. Most child molesters were molested themselves as a child, something that has never even been INSINUATED to have happened to Michael.
    2. Michael has shared his home and spent time with TENS OF THOUSANDS of children throughout the world in his lifetime. But he has only been charged with molestation twice. Pedophilia is a sickness, much like crack addiction, meaning pedophiles cannot spend time with children or they WILL molest them (crackheads can’t hang around crack and not smoke it). For me to believe that Michael molested these children, I would have to believe he molested many if not most of the children he came in contact with. If that was the case, people would be coming out of the woodworks with MJ molestation accusations. Why did that not happen???
    3. I agree with this article’s writer. I think Michael Jackson is the poster child for “arrested development” (google it). He had a good 5 years of childhood, and then was just thrown into a stardom that he wasn’t ready for. Children envied him because of his talent, while ironically, he envied them because they could go to school, play outside with their friends, etc. like NORMAL kids. I believe the construction of his home, bomb ass sleepovers, playfulness with children, etc. was his way of trying to recapture what he never got a chance to experience. He grew up in an era (early 60s) where it was not “gay” or suspect to sleep in the bed with your friends when you had a sleepover. I myself remember holding hands with my best friend in kindergarten, because that’s how we expressed that we were best friends. I think he was just traumatized about his lack of childhood, and never healed from the wounds, hence trying to relive his would-be “glory” years in his adult life (like MOST people who haven’t gotten over their past do)…it just happened to be that opportunistic people saw an opening for an attack, and went for it. Because of his notoriety, fortune, plastic surgery, skin color changes, reputation for entertaining children, etc. I believe he was an easy target and the media ate him up.

I could go on, but I’ll stop there. I’ve made my point.

~ Rest In Peace Michael Jackson…may you finally find the peace this world never granted you ~

I will miss Mr. Jackson and his greatness. My point of frustration is lashing out at the the people who lied, taught their children to misrepresent the truth for financial gain (they will reap what they have sown. Receiving a large sum of money because they are lazy and could not dream of earning money and had to resort to eplotation and teaching their child)ren) to lie for financial gain. Now that we have lost Mr. Jackson, what will these predators do now?

We have lost, a great caring person youthful because he was taught to make money for the family and did it because he was taught to show his talents.

The sensationalism of the media helped encouraged those predators doe ratings only and Mr. Jackson was used as a marketing sensation.

Rest in Peace knowing the media or greedy predators can no longer use or extort money from you for financial gain.

It’s funny all these people now are embracing Michael Jackson. Every time I would play his music in my car a whole lot of people would clown me calling me corney because I don’t play garbage like souja boy or gucci main. At least I can truely say I didn’t jump on the band wagon, The very first song I remember listening to was Billie Jean with my dad when I was 4 years old. RIP Michael Jackson Truely missed.

Well said. My coworker and I had this same discussion yesterday. I agree that Michael trapped himself in childhood. I believe he stunted his own maturity and did not progress beyond the mentality of child. The writer of this article hit the nail on the head. In other words: Child stars rarely grown up unscaved from growing up in the limelight. Anyways…I loved Michael and always will. RIP Michael

MICHAEL j IS A CLASSIC CHILD STAR. hE OBVIOUSLY WAS AFFECTED, AND DISTURBED FROM NOT EXPERIENCING CHILD HOOD NORMALY. I’M SORRY HE FELT DENIED OF HIS CHILD HOOD FOR DEDICATING HIS LIFE TO MAKING GOOD MUSIC FOR PEOPLE AROUND THE WORLD. tHIS MAN HAS TONS OF FANS, AND GOOD MUSIC. I WILL ALWAYS APPRECIATE HIS MUSIC AND ALWAYS HAVE. I NEVER DOUBTED HIM WHEN IT CAME TO THE MOLLESTATION CASE. I HAVE HAD SOME ISSUES WITH HIM , BUT I STILL LOVE HIS MUSIC AND DON’T BELEIVE HE DID ANYTHING WITH THOSE KIDS EXCEPT SLEEP IN THE SAME BED WITH HIM. nOT BECAUSE HE WANTED TO MOLLEST THEM, BUT BECAUSE HE LOVED THEM, AND DID NOT ENJOY HIS OWN CHILD HOOD. IN THIS CULTURE EVERYONES MIND IS IN THE GUTTER, AND PEOPLE EXPECT THE WORSE. i DON’T BLAME mj’S FATHER TOO MUCH EITHER CAUSE HE WAS PROBABLY DOING THE BEST HE COULD. i DEFFINATELY DON’T BLAME MJ’S MOTHER WHO mICHAEL DESCRIBED AS A PERFECT MIOTHER AND WOMAN. SO SOMETIMES THE BLAME GAME DOES NOT APPLY.

sorry but his time was WAY IN THE PAST!!!
i lost any semblance of sympathy or common decency for the guy who was so far up the river nile (denial) that reality was bound to catch him some day and it was called DEATH!
michael couldnt outrun death, nobody can!
by isolating himself from true authority figures in his life, he learned that MONEY was his only friend and answer!
money allowed him to multilate himself, buy unnessary things to the point of debt and to buy himself WHITE KIDS TOO??!!!
    ….WTF!!!!?????
SHM DAMN SHAME WASTE OF TIME!!!

“MICHAEL j IS A CLASSIC CHILD STAR”

So is miley, chris b, rihanna, and many others, but we scold them with an iron tongue and treat them as they are adults…when you’re a child star, you miss out on most of the upbringing that is necessary to develop into an adult and therefore grow up into a child-like adult…rather, “childish” adult. But, we don’t care – we want our new cuts to download to our ipod/zune/mp3-player-x…you get the drift.

It was Joe Jackson’s responsibility for MJ… “Rest His Soul”…for his well being, education, and health (Mental Health) growing up…MJ wasn’t allowed to grow up from a child to an adult so he remained childlike “psychologically” until the day he died..YOU KNOW OUR BLACK MEN NEED AND STILL DO NEED Healthy relationships with their fathers…this didn’t happen for MJ…..So.. we need to appreciate his gift..God gave us (his fans) this gift and now his body is gone from us but his voice and memory is in our hearts (those that truly loved him) RIP Mr. Michael Joseph Jackson!!!!

I think the writer misunderstands genius. Mike wasn’t a classic child star at all. He was an great artist and genius. He had a view and understanding of the world that few of us will ever see. He was touched by GOD (anointed) to touch people (heal and inspire) with his gifts. It’s our task to see him with open minds. To hear and grow from what he tried to say in his music.

I’m so tired of hearing excuses as to why Miachael Jackson felt he needed to change his skin color and facial structure. Everybody gets teased. Everybody has gone through an awkward phaze. Everybody has had acne. If shabba Ranks, Whoopi Goldberg, Tracey Chapman, Missy Elliot, Fantasia, and countless other black celebs, whom most people consider ugly because of their dark skin and overly afroscentric features, do not go to the extreme, then he did not have to either. years later, with only a ghost of a nose and a face so botched that he had to hide it behind a surgery mask, millions of people still loved him and awaited his next album, and it was becuase people couldnt have given two s**ts how cute he was as long as he could dance and made us want to dance, or f**k, or cry through his music, which he did!!! I just hope that he and Lil kim will serve as examples to millions of black kids who look in the mirror and wish that they could change things about their images. I hope they google pictures of michael and Kim before the operations and see how beautiful they were and how scary they became after the surgery and change their minds.

LOL Damn That one person went hard on Mike and LMAO about R. Kelly but it aint right to judge people especially since none of us are perfecdt they are just people and people do weird s**t Michael said it best in his Song Human Namture, so alot of s**t people do cant be explained if disagree with someones actions just pray for them to change and keep it movin there is no benefit in passing judgment on them because that could easily be someone u no and love so just think about your words and choose them wisely.

Oh, Michael. Why couldn’t you love and accept yourself the way that your fans loved and accepted you? There was nothing wrong with you as a black man. You would have grown into a nice-looking black man if you would have just let things be. We still would have loved you, accepted you, and would have thought you to be the king in Music that you came to be. Michael needed some help and I think it’s said that those in his circle exploited his lack of self-esteem instead of trying to help him (and that includes his family). This man basically was a victim of his own self loathing and self-mutilation and no one did anything to stop it. It’s just sad. Well no matter what, his music will be legendary. He will be legendary — regardless of his internal issues.

PEOPLE ARE ALWAYS going to say something negative about people, no matter how good they are. They would say something bad about Mother Theresa! I’ve heard people call Obama’s mother white trash and his father some black nigga from a hut! They accuse him of being an antichrist for his views and he’s the President of the the United States.. They talk about Mike, like a dog because they get off bringing other public figures down. Just evil minded souls.
Anyways, no matter how Micheal looked he was a global music icon, period!! His record sales were off the hook! He was a GREAT performer!! I think he needed some constant counseling especially about his childhood and self-esteem. I use to be extremely shy myself as a kid..and some people get over it and others don’t. Anyways, Rest in Peace Micheal J. I hope you find eternal peace and everlasting love. May the Heavenly Father be the Father to fill your void of Fatherly Love!

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/soulmate1967/ soulmate1967

Michael was who he was because he did what most of us do…he put his faith in people and not in GOD. He gave his father the power over his life.GOD is the spirit we are born into but at a very young age and unfortunately through our parents….we stop beleiving .Look into the faces of our black children, into their eyes and you can see the pain and unhappiness ingrained in their spirit.Life is not about money it is our journey of forgiveness and learning how to truly love ourselves and share that love with others.

No Human Alive is ever gonna to be able to fathom what it was like for MJ. And I think that commenting on something that only he has experienced in his life is wrong. The biggest truth of the matter is, we lost not only the greatest entertainer the world has ever know. But one of the greatest men the world has know. not one celebrity (black or other wise) did the amount of charity work mj did. (another world record in the amount of 300 million in his lifetime). I believe that our society and his father is responsible for the torment this man felt in his lifetime. Just like us to build someone up just to turn around and tear them right back down again. Michael Jackson deserved a lot more from our planet because he didn’t just talk about healing and change, he actually tried to do something about it. Think

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/litj_2009/ litj_2009

Like Michael once said: “It doesn’t matter if you’re black or white.” What matters is the legacy and the name we make for ourselves in life so that God (who is a real entity and not something just within us), can judge us appropriately. Humans have no idea what we are doing. History proves that. That’s why ONLY God and not others can read whats in our hearts and why we do the things we do. I think Michael kept a lot tp himself because people judged him without knowing what he was really about. He was judged even when he didn’t speak in public. Sad. I do not believe in idol worship, for the Bible scriptures condemn that. However, I do respect the body of work Michael was able to give the world.

    Michael Jackson

Breaking the Barrier and Defeating the Double Standard

    Elvis was “The King”
    But his wife was 14
And they called Mike a pedophile
    Who are they kidding now?

If the King of Pop was strange
Then “The King of Rock” was insane
    He ate himself to death
Smoking dope to ease the pain

Then they went and made him an idol
But he didn’t deserve the title
Stayed hidden in his house for days
Because he didn’t deserve the praise

    He stole everything he had
Should have been just a fad
Some say he was pretty good
But “Mike” showed them who was BAD

    He broke down racial barriers
The King of Pop was a pioneer you see
Michael Jackson was the first black artist
    To desegregate a racist MTV

He was a chart topper making hit after hit
Dazzling us with his musical genius time after time
He stepped on stage and changed the world
Singing and dancing his way into your heart and mine

No other artist can compare or even come close
To the level of his success and what he achieved
I think I shall never see again in this lifetime
The world grieve for an artist the way he was grieved

He was ridiculed and crucified by the media
And hung in public court before the verdict was ever read
But he never let down the millions of fans he had around the world (including myself)
And for this he’ll live on in our hearts and never be dead

His career spanned over 40 years
He came to us as a gift and even as a child he gave us his all
With beautiful magic and a sparkle in his eyes
He immediately began tearing down racial walls

It’s so hard to let go
    “I never can say goodbye”
Michael, they appreciated you more after death
But that’s just “human nature”, WHY?

You had a memorial befit for a king
In death your spirit arose to shine even brighter
And though some still deny your light
    You continue to ascend,
So it’s okay, float on Peter Pan, fly away
For your memory shall never end

In life you were humble, at times appearing as innocent as a child
And you never hesitated to give
No matter what they say, Michael, you will always be considered
“The greatest entertainer that ever lived”.
