Baltimore — Last night, MTV aired No Easy Decision, a spin-off of the popular reality series, 16 and Pregnant. The special follows 16 and Pregnant alum Markai as she struggles with the decision to have an abortion after unexpectedly becoming pregnant for the second time.

Unlike some who use abortion as a form of birth control, Markai and her boyfriend claim they were using contraception when she became pregnant again.

“I just never knew [the Depo-Provera] ran out,” Markai recalls. “They give you a time limit to get the shot again. [It's] like days-days, so I thought I had time. I guess not.”

Damn! I’m not familiar with this show, but the idea of a 16 year old shooting herself up with this the Depo-Provera is enough to bring tears to my eyes. I’m quite sure that the show is being used as a marketing tool for this drug, which of course is targeted at our community where abortion is already at shockingly high levels. I wonder if this show deals with or even mentions any of the side effects associated with this poison?

MTV is something else…most these tv programs are something else…
so when young white females get pregnant thats ok it’s glorified and put on tv in the form of 16 and pregnant…but abortions feature black teen!!???………………..

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/KIR10/ KIR10

There are no easy solutions except abstinence which is not going to work for young adults 18 and older. There are safe effective forms of birth control for women. Birth control is a drug. Anything medicine you put in your body is a drug. Condoms should be used primarily to protect against STD’s and secondarily for birth control. If a woman is consistently sexually active or in a long term sexual relationship condoms are the least effective means of birth control because of improper usage by men/boys. Condoms should never be your only/exclusive means of birth control. Leaving your health and future way of life in the hands of a man/boy is risky at best.

I saw bits and pieces of the reunion show where they had all the girls from 16 and preganant. Markai (the black girl) was one of them. I heard her say she got pregnant a month after meeting the father of the child she had on the show. She was 16 then and to now get pregnant again at 17 and still unmarried says a lot about her. I hope she finds a effective form of birth control until she can get an education/skill, structure and a husband in her life. I have my doubts

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/_A_/ _A_

Kir10. I’m not sure if your underlying message is one of acceptance to these birth control poisons or not, but I’m telling you the truth, I would rather see a young girl have 6 children out of wedlock, than offer themselves up as guinea pigs for these nefarious drug makers out to make $$$. Lets be real, these “poisons” are still in the research and development stages. How else can they “improve” on them without having them tested on human beings. Let me also say that I in no way condone out of wed lock births or more importantly, people having children who don’t have the means to take care of them, but the fact is, if you don’t have the means to take care of these children, then not only will they become a burden on tax payers in the future, but so will the mother when the side effects of these poisons manifest in the future as well.

See what I am talking about? Did Oprah get this kid to come on a show and showing her ignorance?

    I think not…

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/blackbizman2008/ blackbizman2008

Abstinence can, and does, work for some younger people, so don’t let the media fool ya when they say otherwise. As with anything in life, some people will do one thing, others will do another. No one strategy will be used by 100% of any group of people, regardless of age, sex, race, etc. Beyond that, this story should be a cautionary tale to those who engage in sexual activity to not rely on the other person’s birth control methods. As you can see here, the young teen girl did not fully understand how to use her contraceptive – and I advise women to please research these powerful chemicals before you dump them in your bodies as they do have serious side effects. Likewise, some men don’t know how to use condoms or just simply don’t want to.

    @_A_

There is not perfect solution given the choice of a community with 70% illegitimacy, aprox 500,000 African American abortions yearly or birth control. I choose birth control.

I guess your argument is that birth control is more harmful than all the other medicines and drugs that we take? I think your argument is very random and individualistic unless your advocating not taking any medicines for any reason. Birth control has been shown to be safe and effective for the overwhelmingly majority of women of all races. There are over 8 different forms of contraceptives. Sexually active women should find the right one that works best for her.

We can’t have it both ways. I would prefer women didn’t have to take birth control and didn’t have abortions and all men stayed to raise their seed. These kids are going to continue to have sex and men/boys are not going to stay with a woman they don’t care about. If they don’t care about the mother, it’s a 50/50 chance their not going to be involved in the Childs life. My choice is to address the root issue and cause and not just the social problems that stem from it in our community. You can not have a productive community with 70% Illegitimacy and no men in the home. Illegitimacy is root cause of every social problem in our community ie Poverty, crime, unemployment, low educational standards ect… it all stems from illegitimacy.

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/KIR10/ KIR10

    There is no perfect solution.

“I didn’t realize that if i was throwing up the pill, it’s not in your system.” LOL! That’s the first girl from the left.

The second girl was using the pull-out method!

What pisses me off is that it’s already a difficult decision, but the religious conservatives and the republicans makes it harder by forcing these women\girls to see the ultrasound. That’s way too intrusive by these self-righteous bastards.

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/_A_/ _A_

I realize there is never a perfect solution to complex problems but my whole thing is I don’t want the “solution” to be the source of more complex problems. This kick the can down the road mentality has really become pervasive in our society. To me it’s a part of who we are. Put everything on credit card, and think about the 20% interest when the bill comes. Eat to your heart is content, then deal with the diabetes, High blood pressure etc. when that becomes a problem. I personally don’t advocate the use of any medication. I don’t even take aspirin for headaches. I personally believe that masking symptoms is not the way to effectively deal with the bodies way of telling you you’re doing something wrong, so no I wasn’t trying to make the point about BC being more harmful than other medicines. On the other hand, one of the side effects to this Depo crap is BONE LOSS! Bone loss???? What recourse do you have from that? See, but teens and women are willing to just say hey, I will deal with bone loss when it becomes a serious issue. Only in a severely undeveloped mind can bone loss be considered an acceptable consequence for the use of this product!

@Angilix, I can already see your reply to this but when she talked about the ultrasound my mind immediately wondered if somehow the facility was trying to subconsciously talk her OUT of the abortion. Notice the black girl was shocked by that, which suggests they didn’t do that with her. It’s no secret that the birth rate of black’s and hispanics are at levels that will put both groups on par or with greater numbers than whites with respect to population in about 40 years. I know you might dismiss that as conspiratorial but just think about it! White people plan for 50, 100 years out. They are not like us who for the most part are planning what outfits to buy for the club next sat night..lol

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/Angilix/ Angilix

So _A_, you’re saying it was deliberate that they didn’t show her the ultrasound so that she would not feel guilty and change her mind about the abortion?

That’s not the case. It is actually dependent on which state you reside in.
_A_, is that what you expected my response to be?

    Wait…I must ask _A_…..

If you are totally against abortion and the birth control poisons, (yes they are poisonous to say the least), then what is the solution??? I mean in your opinion ofcourse…..

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/_A_/ _A_

Are you telling me that it’s required by law in some states to show the girl the ultrasound? If that is indeed true, I’m willing to bet that the states with higher concentrations of blacks and hispanics don’t have that law and if so, don’t utilize it since it would almost be impossible for any agency to ensure compliance. I expected you to dismiss it as a conspiracy theory.

@Cali. My solution to this is really the same for any and all our problems. True and proper education. keep in mind, even if implemented right away, I still think it would take generations for it to take root. Again, No Easy Solution to me is an understatement.

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/AfricanSpeech/ AfricanSpeech

Strong families, extended families and community…

    Simple but effective solution…

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/Angilix/ Angilix

@_A_, you’re still looking for that conspiracy. I guess if you look hard enough . . .

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/_A_/ _A_

Actually, I’m not looking for it Angilix, it’s really right there in front of our face. You really don’t have to look that hard, it just requires an open mind. The Eugenics movement which spawned groups like Klanned Parenthood had a specific goal in mind. Exterminate blacks. They decided the most effective way was to wage this war in the womb. This is not paranoia taking over, these are STATED goals. Now if you want to believe that 150 years or so later, 36% of all abortions are black women, and 52% of all black pregnancies are terminated is a mere coincidence then that’s fine, but to dismiss those of us who don’t believe in coincidences is largely unfair. But who said life is fair right?

    Black genocide, the saga continues!

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/chocolatebutterfli/ chocolatebutterfli

My GOD, must there be a conspiracy behind every little thing. There are black, whites, hispanics all on 16 and pregnant so they aren’t just showing a black girl that had an abortion, sitting beside her is two white girls. Where is the conspiracy. EVERY one is not out to get the black population, yes there are some, but why must EVERYTHING be a conspiracy.

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/Angilix/ Angilix

_A_, there are racist azzholes in every organization, but you would have me believe that as institution Planned Parenthood exists solely to facilitate the genocidal of the black race and it stated somewhere in their charter or mission statement?

Look, as demonstrated by our three examples in the video . Young women are way too easy to fuk, way too careless and way too stupid. We need to stop trying to find scapegoats for the all the dysfunction in our communities and start educating folks on how to think critically and conduct themselves as adults

I’ll just say this, saying that Planned parenthood’s ideology today is the same as it’s religious, right wing, racist founder , who couldn’t even stick to her own principles (she was an adulteress also), is like saying the Republican party of Lincoln is the same as the republican party of today or the democrats for that matter.

I personally don’t advocate the use of any medication.

If you don’t take any medicine that means you don’t go to and have no need for a doctor. Are you also advocating that women not go the doctor and not get checked and treated for breast cancer, ect? Are you advocating that kids not go to the doctor and not get immunized for polio ect.? Are you advocating men not get checked and treated for prostate cancer, ect? Again, all of these are also powerful, but helpful, drugs that have been used to improve our health and quality of life. Idealism, being idealistic is ok until it needs real world application. Unfortunately, with 500,000 African American abortions yearly and a 70% illegitimacy rate, I think these young girls are following your advice more than mines regarding sex education and the community is drowning because of it.
    ****************************
not sure… if your underlying message is one of acceptance to these birth control poisons or not, but I’m telling you the truth, I would rather see a young girl have 6 children out of wedlock

Really, really? Have you ever seen and been in that type of household? I have a cousin just like that. She dropped out of school and just started having babies. She has 6 kids by four or five men and you’re telling me her life is better off now than it would have been if she’d have taken birth control? No disrespect brah because we agree on most things but…GTFOHWTBS. I tried to talk to her after the second one because I saw where it was going but the family told me to leave her alone… it’s in Jesus hands blah, blah, blah. She was the first woman in the family to just breed with whomever. Now, 15 years later, that retard has 6 kids and the oldest two kids already have babies. All of the baby momma’s are of course on welfare and she’s a grandmother before 30. She ran off with a younger cat, because she wanted to “live her life” the kids were left with the last baby daddy and then they went to live with the grandparents for a hot minute and now their back with her. It’s a mess. This is pretty close to the life of a large amount of these baby momma’s with multiple baby daddies throughout this country. And you’re telling me her life is better now, than it would have been if she would have taken birth control, finished school, got an education/skill, some structure in her life and maybe found a husband before having kids? Again, no disrespect but…… GTFOHWTBS. Please explain how her life is better.

Trying to improve and have a productive black community without addressing illegitimacy, in a relevant productive way, with these kids is like being on a boat bailing water with multiple holes at the bottom. You either have to plug those holes or the boat eventually is going to sink with everything and everyone on it.

Happy New Year everyone. I’m out

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/CreamNDaKoffee/ CreamNDaKoffee

I don’t think she was targeted because of her skin color. She just happened to be the only one who got pregnant again and chose to abort the baby. Abortion happens to all races……I’ve had 3. I was young and dumb and a little fast azz that was hard headed and didn’t listen to what had been taught to me.

At the time I was 19 years old and already had 2 kids under age 2. I didn’t need anymore. The first one was a total slip up….The 2nd 2 came about due to ineffective birth control. I was on the pill and my partner ( who I am still with, by the way ) used a condom and I still wound up pregnant. After my last child was born, I got my tubes cut, tied, and burned.

The only 100% effective method of birth control is abstinence. Or we as a society could always try what some African tribes do and sew the young girls’ v****a’s closed until they marry, then take out the stitches.

Guess SOME young ladies will NEVER learn that sex will produce babies and trying to raise one IS hard, but putting drugs inside them put them(to prevent or abort) at risk as well…..

ladies should be SCARED of ANY drug that has to do with sex, birth and abortion…sould like a RISK on THEIR bodies……..

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/_A_/ _A_

@Angilix. The dysfunctional use of sex in our community has nothing at all to do with Klanned Parenthood and that’s not what I’m trying to say. I’m making two points here. We will never disagree on the personal responsibility our community needs to take in many areas including sex. Mind you, your Democrat friends are seemingly against that philosophy since they are so willing to increase section 8/welfare and of course keep programs like Klanned Parenthood protected, legislatively. My side point was one that’s dealing with population control, and how this was something being discussed and planned for, 150 years ago. Now lets clear a few things up. I never said that in their mission statement or charter will you find any language that talks about the extermination of black people. There are ways of carrying out that mission without stating the exact goal on official doc**ents. You can easily get people to carry out your mission without them even knowing it. Bottom line is, the elites of this world have always been interested in population control. They have convinced the world that there isn’t enough resources to sustain the increasing population. When you examine that further you see that is BS. Abortion and Klanned Parenthood was spawned from the ideological writings and teachings of Margret Sanger. Does it matter that the language has changed if the practices remain the same? White people are great at changing up language while maintaining the same policies. Why do you think blacks are still fighting for civil/human rights to this day? Why has the state of our economic/education/health condition lagged behind whites for the past 40 years. Why do you think whites coined the phrase “the more things change, the more they stay the same?” Because they are the masters of that, that’s why!

Next thing, I always find it interesting that many black people who think the Tea Party wants to put us back on the plantation, or that Republicans ONLY oppose BHO because he is black, or that the media scrutinizes him more than any other President, are quick to call someone a Conspiracy Theorist when it comes to issues like these! or make statements like “EVERY one is not out to get the black population, yes there are some, but why must EVERYTHING be a conspiracy. ” I guess it’s only a Conspiracy theory when you don’t agree with it.

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/_A_/ _A_

    Ok Kir10 You state:

Really, really? Have you ever seen and been in that type of household? I have a cousin just like that. She dropped out of school and just started having babies. She has 6 kids by four or five men and you’re telling me her life is better off now than it would have been if she’d have taken birth control?

First of all, where exactly did I state her life would be better off under those conditions? You totally took my words out of context. My entire sentence reads, I would rather see a female have 6 children out of wedlock THAN OFFER THEMSELVES UP AS GUINEA PIGS TO THESE NEFARIOUS DRUG MAKERS! Brother Kir10, of course I don’t want to see these young girls having any children out of wedlock or even in situations where both parents are there if they have no realistic way of taking care of them. But to subject yourself to these drugs with little or no idea what effect these things will have on your VITAL organs 20 years down the line???? That’s a real dangerous and high risk alternative, one that these young ladies and the public at large takes very lightly.

No follow me on this one. Lets suppose young Markai didn’t have this Depo crap or any other form of Birth control to choose. What’s the chances that after the first baby, she decided for herself since I don’t want to have another baby I’m going to educate myself and become more responsible. I know many of you will call me crazy for thinking that these girls are going to learn from their mistakes, but I ask you, how else will they learn? I’m not foolish enough to think that every girl will, but how many would? These shots and pills and whatever else, actually contribute to this reckless attitude towards sex. I firmly believe that if these women didn’t have this false sense of security with these products along with the implicit Government safety net in the way of assistance, much like how Moral Hazard works in the world of Investment banking, many of these young ladies may learn extremely quickly how to be more responsible and less risky. If you remove all the negative consequences that comes from making bad choices, you’re really just encouraging people to make bad choices!

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/Dimples12553/ Dimples12553

All I can say is this…..

If you are not a girl, then your comments are a mute point here. Having children and taking birth control are all out of your hands. You do not have to REALLY worry about anything. As a man, you can convince any young girl to give you what it is you want and then leave. What is left afterwards in some cases is the pregnant girl all alone.

Education is key….. however that lock must have been changed a long time ago. I say this because they have been saying that people need education since I was a teen. It is OBVIOUSLY not working. They need to try something else. Abstinance is also NOT working.

Teen pregnacy is becoming an epidemic of epic proportions, not just in the Black Communities, this thing is WIDESPREAD.

I dont feel sorry for these teens at all. Unless they were raped, they knew exactly what they were doing when they laid down with that boy and had sex. They knew exactly what could happen. With everything that is taught to kids now a days about sex. You just can’t convince me otherwise that they did not know what the ramifications would be if they had sex with or without protection.

What you have also failed to realize is that the teens that appear on these showes get paid to have the camera crews follow them around.

This is a choice that most grown-ups do not EVER want to have to make, and now you have babies having babies and needing to make these same grown-up choices. If you were old enough to lay there and have sex…. then to me you are old enough to have to make the difficult choices to deal with the ramifications of the sexual experience.

Stop codling these kids, stop leaving it up to the schools to teach your children….. TEACH THEM AT HOME AS WELL. The media will NEVER tell you exactly the truth. All you get is someone elses VERSION of the truth.

Dimples12553, “If you are not a girl, then your comments are a mute point here. Having children and taking birth control are all out of your hands. You do not have to REALLY worry about anything.”

That mindset is a huge part of the problem. It’s a clear case of our community not placing the share of responsibility on both the male/female. Men have just as much right and responsibility to speak on this issue as any woman. When it comes to pregnancy, men are a huge part of the equation. Men do and should WORRY about consequences and whatever else is going on. If BOTH the young man and woman are educated then they can both take proper measures. If they BOTH know they are responsible EQUALLY then better outcome can be worked on.

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/Angilix/ Angilix

I agree with CaliFemme23 and disagree with Dimples12553 on male involvement. For a man having a child at a young a can be just as devastating. @ MyEyezAdoreU, no sweetheart, you completely read that wrong……or I may have typed it wrong. So please allow me to clarify. Yes, I said I have had 3 abortions……and yes, I said I had my oldest 2 children by the time I was 19 years old. However, I never said at what age I had the abortions…..the first one was after I had my 2nd child. Therefore I was past age 19 when I had my 1st abortion. One of the abortions I had was because I had gotten pregnant after I had been raped and I couldn’t see myself raising a child that was a product of rape. As previously stated, I was also a victim of faulty birth control, which was what brought another one of the abortions. I have been with the same partner for 14 years so that hardly makes me a w.hore.

So next time get all the facts straight before you try to randomly call out someone you ignorant……nah, I ain’t even about to stoop to your level and call you out your name. You really ain’t worth it.

Such a sad story!!! So often we are uneducated about the limitation of birth control that it may as well be uneffective. Prescription drug and some vitamins will negate birth control. Education is vitally important. Learn about our bodies, learn the differences between truth and falsehoods. As many of you have stated, we have been told lies to keep us in a certain place or status. But so many won’t find out what is true and stay there, blaming others and fuleing the lies with conspiracy theories. We must all decide what is true to each of us. The responsible thing is so many case is to decide the number of children you want and once you reach that number, handle your business!!! Men get vasectomies, ladies get your tubes tiesd or if symptoms and conditions permit, a hysterectomy. That’s my goal this summer. Symptoms and conditions permit. My childbearing days are over. Males and females need to care about their goals or make some goals. Sex should not be the only goal ppl have. Its sad.

Angilix. A Cluster of cells? That is the form of all human beings at that time of our lives. You make it sound as if those cluster cells has the potential to become many other things besides a human being. It doesn’t. So calling it a “cluster of cells” rather than a human being is the Klanned Parenthood’s way of making the process of abortion appear to be anything other than murder. It has nothing to do with being self righteous. It is what it is!

@DannyBaby21: Good job. Glad you got rid of your husband for wanting to do such a thing

@GrownManJae: “…you have to ask yourself things these days…they best way to hide something, is to put it in plan sight…all proof is right in front of us..you just act to ignorant to realize” Good point. I think it’s more that people’s minds have been poisoned (by education, the media, etc) so that they cannot see what’s in plain sight. There are some highly intelligent people who don’t know their minds have been poisoned. There are those who simply don’t want to learn (ignorant) and those who do want to learn but don’t know that their minds are poisoned.

So does a wet dream_A_. You’re gonna call me a murderer for jacking off now?

We claim to know when life begins. We don’t know anything, and we need to stop judging.

I firmly believe that if these women didn’t have this false sense of security with these products along with the implicit Government safety net in the way of assistance………..
    ***************
The truth of the matter is that most young black women are not taking any birth control. Of course, it’s true that if welCrack was removed or reduced after the first child. These young girls would stop having kids. We know that’s not going to happen. Abstinence for hormone raging late teens and 20 somethings is not going to happen. We need real solutions instead of talk. Unless you want to go back to the time when a man could get his shot gun and demand marriage for his daughter, birth control has to be considered the best option. Birth Control has been widely used by most conscientious and educated women of all races all over the world for the last 20 to 30 years. There has been no wide spread health epidemic as you suggest from it’s use. I really hope you’re not advocating the African American community reject healthcare, regular check ups with doctors and the medicine doctors prescribe as treatment for illnesses. No one and nothing is perfect, however, the improved quality of health and life expectancy of the country can be directly attributed to the medical profession.

You know what Angilix I made the same argument about abortions… I was thinking if we’re going to say when the egg meets the sperm is when it’s called a life lets take a few steps back and cut out masturbation as well. It’s all subjective… some people think it’s when the egg is fertilized by sperm and some say its only when the baby leaves the womb.

if a pregnant woman is murdered. The killer is charged with double murder, meaning there was a life in the womb. So all that talk about cluster of cells goes out the window

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/Angilix/ Angilix

@sammyboy08, “cluster of cells” goes out the case of MURDER but not in case of ABORTION, which is what we’ve been discussing here, so you are still wrong to accuse her of murder.

Abortion has nothing to do with murder. Why does MTV wants to ruin so much more lives ?

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/killasweet82/ killasweet82

i dont respect mtv in the first place, the same channel that michael jackson made popular, is now only profiling a black girl tinking about having an abortion yet somehow made stars out of the fat carcker b***h that hit her baby daddy and some other cracker b***h that had twins……..

To all who’ve put their opinions on here and are okay with abortion PLEASE be man or woman enough to see an abortion take place. There are plenty of videos on youtube of the fetus after being taken out. Ya’ll really need to see these “clusters of cells” as some may call them…because they are FAR from being clusters of anything than flesh and blood. This “cluster” most are discussing happen within the 2 week period from fertilization. After that it already has a heart, brain, skeletal structure. So before you claim a cluster and shrug it off that easily…watch a video and see if it sits well with you what abortion is really about.

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/TootieFresh-N-Frooty/ TootieFresh-N-Frooty

P.S. Also, most women don’t even know that they’re pregnant till at least 3 weeks after their pregnancy. The “cell cluster” has come and gone since then.
