California — When the nominations for the 83rd Academy Awards were announced this morning, there were many names that were left off the list, but most notably, the exclusion of any African Americans in the 24 categories.

Among the omitted were Halle Berry, who received a Golden Globe nod for her acclaimed performance in ‘Frankie and Alice,’ and John Legend, who wrote and sung the song ‘Shine’ for the documentary ‘Waiting for Superman.’

A majority of critics had voted ‘Superman’ as the best doc of 2010 and yet it failed to make the nomination cut.

While Tyler Perry’s ‘For Colored Girls’ didn’t received the best of positive reviews with a 33% approval rating from the movie critics webnsite Rotten Tomatoes, many people singled out Kimberly Elise‘s performance and hoped that she would have landed a nod.

    Duh?

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/AfricanSpeech/ AfricanSpeech

Are there any black members of the Academy?

    Didn’t think so…

Keep waiting for Hollywood, black people, keep “Waiting for Superman”…

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/AfricanSpeech/ AfricanSpeech

There are no Chinese, Indian or Mexican people nominated in the Oscars so why do black people keep expecting to get accepted in Hollywood…

Learn from what Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan and Jet Li did… Only your own can appreciate you and if they don’t then YOU ARE SCREWED, so if you don’t want to get off your knees and make it happen, better kneel down, bend over and take it and shut up…

83 years and blacks are STILL upset about not being accepted by white folks in this awards ceremony….smh..

When you THINK about it, the awards blacks have gotten were for the ILLEST, most FOUL portrayals..Monsters Ball, Training Day, Precious etc….So WHY do we want to even be recognized like whites see us anyway?

I don’t even think there were any blacks in any of those movies. I don’t think people realize just how bad it is, for blacks, in Hollywood. A white comedian was making a joke about things being scarce today, and compared it to black, female actresses. Only blacks got it, whites were just puzzled and smiled. The same chicks are recycled over and over, and where the hell are the others at?? They’re gone! So I see black faces less and less today, and I expect it to continue.
To Califemme23′s point, note also how they finally gave Sidney Pointier an award at the same ‘year of the blacks’ ceremony as the ones she mentioned. lol Just like last year was the ‘year of the woman’, these things work in cycles, and we have to wait AGAIN, for the ‘year of the blacks- normally, it comes after 2 waves of ‘year of the gay man’ and ‘year of the retarded character’. And when that year finally comes, it’s going to be Tyler Perry who wins. He’s going to have to try harder, to demonize black men, and they’re not going to give him the Oscar until he officially comes out the closet!

I really need people to stop thinking Obama being in office makes this HUGE difference…..Again, he is NOT a black man in office, he’s a POLITICIAN in office that was hand picked to put naggas to sleep……Enjoy!

This is the segment in life I hate the most. I want desperately to boycott the ‘hollywoood industry’–by not watching films that don’t have some ‘color’ to them. I want to go to a predominately black/owned theatre etc..etc…but I know I won’t be able to enjoy the movie theatre experience cause’ craig n nem’ are gonna be high, drunk, and cussin’ @ the screen. Then If I ask them to chill so I can enjoy the movie . We know what’s coming after that. Then I gotta get a lawyer to defend me for assualt on the ignorant. Another Hollywood SNUB—So is there anyone who is really in shock about this one?

If negroes stop going to the movies to see these devils perform perhaps they would shut the fuk up. I haven’t been to a movie in 21 years (that’s when I took my son to a movie)!!!

ALL NEGROES GOT TO DO IS BOYCOTT…NOT ONLY THE MOVIE THEATRE BUT CAUCASOIDS BUSINESSES TOO!

STOP CRYING, AND BOYCOTT THESE VARMITS…THIS IS ALL WE HAVE TO DO!

The best thing is for black people to create, produce, patronize and profit from their own entertainment and create employment for each other…

    But I am dreaming again, aren’t I?
