They figure that if they put a black in it, no one will go to it (mainly white women). So if they put a white, big named person, then people, of all races, for whatever reasons, will see the flick. The Cleopatra thing is focusing on showing the strength of women, this is the year of the woman, it’s been said, so people are looking to cash in on this. So they know that black women fall over like dumb pigeons, if a white woman sells them some pro-woman stuff. Black women think they’re talking about blacks women, when do their pro woman act, but never do they mention black women when doing their spiel. Black women love that white woman power movement stuff and eat it up, although if black women pushed a pro-woman agenda, white women look at them like “eww well that’s for your type of ladies, not ours, you’re not us”. This is a truth that black women just do not want to admit, and this is also partly why they’re on a mission to steal white men from white women, or just usurp her, period (early theory). lol So THAT is why they didn’t cast a black for Cleopatra, sell a white woman of power, black women mindlessly eat that up and don’t think about the offense this particular casting actually does, since so many black women wish to be white today. They could have put Halle Berry or some light-black cross bred, or even latina chick, but ultimately, a white guy is going to say “yeah but I could have put Meaghan Fox in the role, but I do want it to be taken somewhat seriously, as well as make money”.

I agree with where they’re coming from, but Hollywood is looking to make cash, and they want and need mass appeal to make that cash. . . .well, White people are the mass and whether blatantly, or subtlety, appealing to them is Hollywood’s priority.

I agree with Nightowl358. If alot of minority movie roles were played by the correct minority, alot of white people wouldn’t want to see the movie, and Hollywood knows that. Remember when Will Smith played Jim West in Wild Wild West. That originally was a white guy named Robert Conrad. When white people saw a black person was playing the part a white man was supposed to be playing, they didn’t go see the movie even though it was Will Smith. And it turned out to be Will Smith’s least successful movies. Like I said I agree with Nightowl358, but I think it’s a little more to it than just money. Personally I think that some white people want everyone to think that all the good and most important people throughout history were white.

Hopefully I didn’t double post but here goes. Whites have always tried to pass off our greatness as theirs. Cleopatra an African Queen(who was actually from Ethiopia)has yet to be portrayed by a black actress.They wouldn’t dare admit that. I remember seeing something that disturbed me as a child and I didn’t know why. I do now. On an episode of ‘good times’ Florida, with the whole map of Africa in her features pointed to a picture of a white Jesus and told her family that he was the only God for them. Not the black one the rest of the family wanted. And just like the ‘good slaves’ they were, the entire studio Audience damn near gave a standing ovation. Their isn’t enough money on this planet to convince me to commit genocide. If it worked for the bus it will work for the film industry. Stop going to see their movies. One color whites do respect is green.

But, then again, we really can’t blame them for wanting to hold on to that power. They are the minority on this planet Yet they have managed to brainwash every other race. Hey guys, while I agree that Hollywood has been guilty of using white actors for non-white rolls. I disagree that this is the case this time. Cleopatra was what we would call white (She was greek). She ruled after Alexander conquered Egypt and was a ptolemy. She was not black and was a foreign ruler in a line of foreign rulers. Egypt has not been ruled by black people for over 2 thousand years.

look im not saying this is right but lets just be real for a quick minute… its Hollywood and at the end of the day they are after the all mighty dollar. and truth be told more people will fill the seats to see their favorite white actor/actress play a role than a black. look at the movie world trade center with nicolas cage, that movie was based off the actions of a black firefighter but they cast a white actor because they knew that white people were not going to rush to the movies to see something about a black man. thats just the ugly truth.

i was surprised to see that Samuel L. Jackson. Snagged the role of Nick Fury In the Iron man movies. Nick Fury was white. So it is possible that it can go both ways. When the New Battlestar Galactica came out. The parts played By Herb Jefferson(Boomer), and Terry Carter(Col. Tigh). The new actors were a white man and a Korean woman. Starship Troopers was another example. johnny Rico’s Character from the book was Filipino. Wasn’t played by one in the movie. Todd Mac Farlane. Who created the comic book character Spawn. Was denied 20 million dollars of funding for the live action movie until he made one of the black characters white. Their reasoning was that the cast was “too” black.. The list goes on and on. I am particularly upset by our representation in sci-fi. A lot of these movies represent a possible future for the Human race. Does that mean that we are going to be largely absent, or only relegated to a secondary role in the years to come?

It gets deeper good people…. just think about how this type of BS influenced many of US as kids growing up watching TV shows and movies. Many of us pretty much grew up thinking African Americans had no place in history (other then slavery)or held any significant positions of power and authority. And lets not forget that most of us were given very few examples if anything empowering in regards to our black history that only seems to extend back to the colonial periods (according to our text books at least). The point is this type of nonsense has its consequences….. We as well as our kids, are raised watching these shows/movies and are subconsciously made to feel inferior because we cannot visualize any significant leadership roles or prominent historical figures to identify with. Think about why it is that most black youth today have very limited ambition and can’t see past being athletes, rappers or gangsters? Think about the reaction African American kids and adults alike had when we elected this nation’s first black president. People reacted as if they had witnessed the return of Jesus Christ himself, it was a culture shock! Lets stop letting Hollywood raise our kids and start making it our own responsibility to elevated their possibilities by exposing them to information/entertainment that empowers them and gives them a stronger sense of existence.

racport39 Have you done any research on this woman at all? Her mother was Native American and French Canadian. Her father, is German. She is not full white and if you bothered you would’ve looked up pictures of her as a child and seen she has always had a darker complextion and VERY full lips, she only has one black child as well. Just because Cleopatra came from the region of Africa does not necessarily mean she HAS to be dark skinned. She was from Egypt! Alot of Egyptians are VERY light. I don’t think half of you know anything about what you’re talking about.
