ABOUT THE FESTIVAL:

This Friday marks the beginning of the 2010 Afro-punk Festival at Commodore Barry Park.  June 25th-27th promises to be filled with live music, skateboarders, BMX, fashion, food, and tons of other summer fun. The line-up of artists include Mos Def, K-OS, God Forbid, J* Davey, 24-7 Spyz, and many other artists, including Bad Brains who will be preforming for the first time ever at an Afro-Punk Festival.

All the fun starts Friday, June 25th at 5PM kicking off the festival with skating and BMX registration. On Saturday, the music lineup beings at 1PM including  artists Bad Brains, P.O.S, God Forbid, Ninjasonik, The 54, Cipher, Game Rebellion, The Bots, Belikos, Activator, DJ MU$A, DJ D://BOI. The skate/BMX contest begins at 1PM for registered skaters. Competition winners can win up to $5,000 dollars in prizes sponsored by Nike 6.0, Nike SB, and Skullcandy.

Afro-punk is a movement that includes artists, fashion fanatics, skateboarders, BMX bikers, as well as musicians who all celebrate the history that Black Americans have in the rock and punk scene. Afro-Punk also recognizes emerging bands and artists who refuse to categorized into a stereotypical role that is often associated with African American artists. Afro-punk is a cultural movement bringing together alternative urban kids from across the nation to come together and enjoy good music, art, and fashion.
