Why are we having this debate? Why is it that yall act like Jay-Z is the king of rap. Maybe you all forgot he is only placed in that position by default. After 2Pace and Biggie then you people appointed him the king. F**k Jay-Z like I always said when 2pac and the outlaws was callin his ass Gay-Z he wouldn’t say s**t,the dude was talking about retirement after his first record. Then Pac and Big get killed,then all of a sudden he resurfaces as the king of New York. No potna you are not the king of rap and if it wasn’t for Pac and Big’s death he probley wouldn’t even be making records. Also I have a problem with the fact Jigga was so quick to come at Nas when they had the lil beef going on, but 2pac called him everything in the book but a child of GOD and his soft ass was quiet as kept. what a damn joke. As for the autotune thing it’s not even one in the same autotune is a plug in for audio recording software it doesn’t even have the full range of use as a talkbox,or vecoder which is used to help people talk that otherwise couldn’t due to problems with their throat i.e. (cancer). Peter Framton is the man but why would you compare him to Roger Troutman? For one thing you can’t because they use two totally different instruments so they will never sound anywhere close to the same because of the difference in harmonics of the instrument. I want you cats to do your homework before you put stuff otu there and look dumb as hell doing so to those who really have knowledge of this type of stuff. Bottom line the industry is filled with followers and to be real the main man talking trash bit his whole style from Biggie and 2pac. He’s one to talk.

Here’s the problem. Jay still has flows so the writer of this article needs to stop the press on Jay. And the beginning of the article is highly inaccurate. B.I.G. and Snoop weren’t even competing so how can the writer make that claim when Snoop has been king on the westcoast since ’96? B.I.G. wasn’t the only notable MC on his coast doing anything.

Back to Jay…all these MCs talking about their swagga’ need to be thanking Jay and even Diddy. They are the kings of swagga’. They are the ones who came out and were the flashiest, the classiest in hip-hop.

Wayne….sucks! Kanye….is overrated! And Jay-Z, has been played out. Like B.I.G., and Snoop, and others his materials is either about making illegitimate money (which I doubt that he does now), spending it to purchase a “Beyonce”, or how great he is (and I know waaaaaay nicer). The thing is that some of you are so conned into the idea that repetition will make you miss something and therefore give it a second chance that most of you just echo the sentiments of the loudmouth deejays that won’t shut the hell up and get the genitalia outta their mouth! Hip hop had substance, but mainstream America has figured out a way to create a watered down image that out of it that people associate with this “artform”. When you listen to the subject matter of about 85% of the songs, their about self overappreciation or some form of excess. No, I’m not saying that it has to be negative, but come on! There is no realism or truth in the art anymore! And people wonder why it (Hip hop) had a hard time being recognized as a musical genre……..

Yes, Wayne sucks… but what the author here is trying to say, is that there’s nobody around with Wayne’s popularity – that’s all.

Check it: Before Wayne, which MC was in EVERY SONG AND REMIX??? Yup, Jay-Z! Of course, Jay was actually good… but you’re missing the point he’s trying to make!

—-MY OPINION—-

I agree… Jay is trying a little too hard, but what can you do about it? The younger generation he’s departed from is a collective dumbass. We say we hate autotune, yet “Blame It” topped the charts for 20+ weeks. So of course Jay’s voice of reason is going to sound foreign to us.

The problem is we associate “cool” too closely to age. When Jay hit 30, cats started claiming he fell off… that’s not what happened. KANYE HAPPENED – the class-clown dropout in his 20s that entertained everybody with his individuality.

Now look where he is: autotuning with a frullet; and we still think he’s cool, when the fact is, if it weren’t for the cash we wouldn’t wanna be him, lol – and quite frankly, I think he’s gotten this way in search of our approval, but I digress. Face it, he fooled us. This opened the door for T-Pain, leading to a series of declining standards in music, Wayne, Gucci, etc.

So essentially, what we have is two snakes consuming each other. Each side continues to think its getting what it wants, until there’s nothing left. It’s up to every to help break the cycle.

As most people know that Autotune and vocoder/talk box are two different things. Peter Frampton, Eagles, Roger Troutman, and Stevie Wonder uses a vocoder or talk box that is attached to their equipments whether it be a guitar or keyboard. Autotune is a processor that is added to the voice either after recording or doing live performances. A lot of singers use autotune to correct pitch and tone. T-Pain, Kanye and lil Wayne chooses a different setting to get that mechnical sound to help them sound like they have the correct pitch and tone. Is it being overused? Hell yeah. Im tired of it frankly

Well aside from this artical (due to its lack of a main topic)…one of my main concerns is that we are so focused on age when in fact I’m sure everyone wants to continue to grow.

There was a time when as long as you put out quality music, age did not matter; Today’s world now says that once you hit a certain age, you should stop making music. As usual…it seems quality has taken a back seat to variables that really don’t even matter (appearance, age, status etc..)

It really seems like some of you commentators have missed his point:

1) “Geezer” defines the ages of the three quys in the picture because they are all at or approaching 40; maybe not too old for this world, but they are closer to being 50 than they are to being 25…

2) Autotune is definitely overused at this point. The distortion was cool when it was revamped by T-Pain (and “she-pain?” Where did you get that? You seem angry man)

It’s always taken me a while to like Jay’s lyrics. He seemed like NYC hype to me. Propaganda in a sense…no offense to the fans, because I am one too (now); just not the overzealous fan. That list of “best MC’s seemed legitimate enough, but I appreciate the poster who called out my man 3000. But isn’t “the best MC” usually the one who verbalizes what the people feel? Or the one who can offer an original perspective to a situation? How do you know who is “best?”

But playing Devil’s advocate; Jay got beef with those who have popularized voice distortion- maybe he should just take his back seat until the game calls him to drive again
