OPINION: The Fall & Fall Of Lil Wayne

By RK Byers July 1, 2009 1:06 pm

<br />

Shakespeare wrote, “Uneasy lies the head that wears a crown”, and not since Leon Spinks was briefly champion of the heavyweight division in 1978 has a top ranked dude looked so utterly baffled as to how to conduct himself as Lil Wayne.

This past year, not only has Wayne had to deal with standard rapper BS like drug and gun charges, but he’s made some bizarre personal choices as well. Already a father of two by two different women, the rapper reportedly now has another two children on the way and dueling prospective baby mamas in actress Lauren London and singer Nivea. Now, while this is certainly Wayne’s personal business and even biblical in a “King Solomon” kinda way, it’s also gotta be a bit of a distraction for a man that wishes to stay at the top of his game.

And not even Wayne’s professional career has made too much sense as of late. After inexplicably recording a song entitled “Whip It Like a Slave,” he appeared on the BET Awards this past Sunday night and as April Silver so brilliantly pointed out, by performing a song about wanting to sex every girl in the world while there were adolescents running around on stage, he actually flirted with encouraging pedophilia!

Now, if being the top dog since last year’s BET Awards has been Wayne’s psychological hurdle, he should be able to rest a little easier-he’s no longer king. As usual, the BET Awards were the coronation for a new top rapper. The only difference was that this time, despite a token attempt to retain the throne by Wayne, a injury-hobbled grab for the ring by Drake, and a desperate attempt by Hov to be the first man to regain the throne since it bounced around a lot between 86-92, this championship was actually decided off-stage. The new king just sat back and watched the whole show with his queen: regal and in control.

Exactly who’s had a better year than Kanye West? His most recent album, “808s and Heartbreak” was sensational. His song “Amazing” was selected by the NBA as the soundtrack to this year’s playoffs. And every guest appearance he’s made recently, be it on the remix of Beyonce’s “Big Ego“, on The Dream’s “Walking on the Moon” or on Keri Hilson’s “Knock You Down“, has been blistering. Paraphrasing poet Nikki Giovanni, as far as this past year is concerned: even Kanye’s mistakes have been perfect.

So get well, Wayne. As fans, we’re not allowed to dissect a man’s life, only his art. And what’s scary now is that at this point, the only two paths that seem to be available to you are the way of Bob Marley, or the way of the Ol’ Dirty Bastard.

Lil Wayne has great musicians but his lyrics are not so awesome in my opinion. If it were not a fact that he has children on stage with him while he actually sings some of them…I might actually buy it but come on now. What is he teaching his own kids at this point. I’m totally down with teaching your kids about the birds and the bee’s and affording them that insight but hmmm. this kinda goes over the borderline and boundaries of what can get child welfare enforcers out to your home and take your kids away from you.
It’s really funny to me how the media and public says that Beyonce is not a role model for kids. She at least does not sing about sex ON STAGE with a bunch of children running across it!
Lil Wayne…there is a place for everything. What you do with children…not teenagers..I said CHILDREN…ON STAGE WITH YOU..is not cool at all! Growing up in that area might help his career…and save some dam kids too. I can just imagine his lil daughter and sons grinding out in public or at a school’s talent show all down on their knees spanking themselves and humping the floor. And then we wonder why Child welfare enters the room and snatches them off the stage and locks them up for his dumb a** stunts. That’s not fair to those children.
Ok, I’m finished with my rampage..
Lil Wayne, …time and place love..time and place!

Yall forgot MM. dont forget he white but not really. he just dont want to cause a big deal & beef amongs rappers but M is a beast when he apply his self on other people sh-it. Ask Jay-z & Drake.

  • 10-17-2009 1:07 am

He’s not lyrically creative…he’s about as creative as jadakiss. He’s a master of Puns and innuendo. the only thing that saved him the last few years was autotune. I can only hope he never records another track.

  • 10-16-2009 9:03 am

Ok Im not going to say wayne is the best rapper alive but u have to admit that he is one of the most lyrically creative rappers out there. he claims that he dont write down his songs but nobody can be that clever with metaphors and Similes in thier songs and not be writeing that s**t down “Im prabally in the sky flying with the fishes or maybe in the ocean swimmin with the pigeons, see my world is diffrent like dwyane wayne…” you dont have to like him as a person but thats him I dont give a f**k what he doing in his personal life but you have to give him credit when its do he brought something new to the table unlike most of this s**t on TV and radio not to mention he has crossed over to doing rock n roll too that only wideing his fan base.I kinna think a lot of the hate is because he is a southern boy not form NY or some s**t and he’s claiming to be the best rapper alive…

  • 9-3-2009 9:44 pm

but to make a better point, in not knockin dude hustle, i knock NOBODYS hustle..im just plain tired of ppl sayin he the best rapper alive..Rakim aint dead, Jay-z aint dead, Tech nine aint dead, Twista aint dead, bone thugs aint dead, and foremost, Nas isnt dead…but the main reason why real artist cant do s**t now..ppl rather hear this Lil Wayne, Plies, Soulja boy bulls**t…and the real Mc’s bein seen as wack…all music today, you hear the same shyt..”smoke weed”…”hoes”..”cars”..”money”…and thats not hip hop…thats rap…Hip Hop is a culture, way far from just music…and thats wat draws the line between hip-hop & rap music..so dont call these niggas out today hip hop…you just gassin they heads up to think they better than the best….

  • 9-3-2009 9:30 pm

dude fake and phony..he done swagga jacked: DMX, Juvenile,Jadakiss,T-Pain,Biggie,Pac,Wu-Tang,Scarface,Bone Thugs..the list goes on.. even Aaliyah & Musiq Soulchild…and the reason why he so big like he is now..MIXTAPES..and he bit many great artist swaggs on those mixtapes to get where he is..and in the hip hop culture, thats not a real artist..and he repeats lyrics from his recent work…and you know the brainwashed Lil Wayne fans gon defend his ass, even when its full blank clear, he a fake…

Jay-Z: “either im the illest nigga doin it, or these niggas losin it”
Lil Wayne: “either in the illest cat doin it, or these cats is losin it”

Scarface: “look me in the eyes, tell me wat you see, do you think im crazy”
Lil wayne: “look me in the eye, wat do you see, do you think im crazy”

JadaKiss: “rappers get fat/ then move to Miami”
Lil Wayne: “rappers get fat/ then move to Miami”

DMX: “see a nigga like me, i eat, sleep, & s**t rap”
Lil wayne: “see a nigga like me, i eat, sleep, & s**t crap” (WTF)

Tupac: “I remember wat my papa told me/ remember wat my papa showed me”
Lil Wayne: “i remember wat my papa told me/ remember wat my papa showed me”

Biggie: “birthdays was the worst days, now we sip on champaigne when we thirsty”
Lil wayne: “birthdays was the worst days, now we sip on louie when we thirsty”

Andre 3000: “oh yes, i love her like egyption”
Lil Wayne: “oh yea, i love her like egyption”

Wu-tang: “eye on ya chick, bag her like groceries”
Lil Wayne: “got my eye on ya chick, bag her up like groceries”

Juvenile: “baby, let me get the key to the rover truck
Lil wayne: “baby, can I get the key to the rover truck

Jay-Z: “good dude, i know you love me like cooked food
Lil Wayne: “ma, you f**kin wit a gud dude, i know you love me like cooked food”

and Aaliyah entire track “i dont wanna”
and Lil Wayne “prostitute flange” was a entire Musiq Soulchild song…

and he got a track that was supposed to be on the “i cant feel my face 2″..he said a few lines from Bone Thugs & harmony…even did his track in they style

and i know a few Mc’s bit a few rappers here and there, but c’mon…they lines and entire songs?…WTF

and they was on his mixtapes…
if they was on his albums, wayne would get sued out the ass…for he dont have the rights, plus he dont give credits

so in other word…HE BIT OTHER PPL FOR HIM TO GET WHERE HE AT..and thats fake and phony

  • 8-8-2009 9:31 pm

I WOULD NOT LET MY CHILDREN LISTEN TO THIS MESS. THESE PEOPLE WHO THESE TEENAGERS AND YOUNG ONES LISTEN TO ARE PATHETIC. THEY ALL HAVE SOLD THEIR SOULS TO THE UNDERWORLD GOD. SO ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING THEY DO HAS ALREADY BEEN OKAYED BY THEIR MASTERS. BET ISN’T OWNED BY THE BLACK MAN ANYMORE, SO WHATEVER GOES NOW. AS A MATTER OF FACT, BET HAS GONE TO THE DOGS.

  • 7-13-2009 12:24 pm

I really think that most of you really dont know what the hell ya are talkin about. For one thing Wayne is not fallin off, he’s one of the smartest rappers in the game, yeah the bulls**t at the BET awards was f**ked up but still, he ’s still makin crazy money and shapin the rap game as he wants it. Look who everybody’s listenin to now, Drake, another rapper from lil wayne’s roster and he’s gettin cake for it.

  • 7-8-2009 3:55 pm

i hope it comes real soon cause im tired of hearing his corny ass

  • 7-8-2009 2:42 pm

Jay is on his way back and D.O.A was a punch straight to the tattooed face of Lil’ Wayne. Whom, btw is producing G&C #3? Kanye…get ready ya’ll…nananana hey hey hey GOODBYE!!!!!!!!!

  • 7-8-2009 2:38 am

I for one, have a problem with the term ‘give back’. This term not only seems to apply to blacks, but it insinuates that your success was ‘given to you’ therefore, you have to ‘give it back’ to someone. anyone, but money is not supposed to be in black hands. I got where I am from hard work. Nobody gave me anything. People waiting for a ‘gift’ are sitting around the soup kitchen and pushing a cart up the street. If I can work to get mine, the next person can work to get theirs.

  • 7-7-2009 10:24 pm

Yes it is a shame that these rappers are not takin responsibility for the misinformation that is out there, but I would like to comment on the fact that Jay-z does give back. He also gives back to Africa by building water pumps for villages. Alot of old school Rappers from the EastCoast get it its these new so called gangster rappers and some new rapper entertainers that are caught up in this industry bullcrap but it will come to an end if you don’t have your head right its a fact, but these n****rs just don’t want to learn from passed history of other celebrities its stupid and redundant

  • 7-7-2009 9:51 pm

who is better than kanye west?! Are you kidding me? A dude that makes a whole album based on Auto Tune? Who the hell CAN’T do that in there basement?

  • 7-7-2009 9:09 pm

do we really give a f**k about lil wayne?

  • 7-7-2009 6:05 am

    You know what I can’t stand ?
People who act like they know everything about Hip hop and rap.
When it’s VERY obvious your exposure to the genre is very little. You can’t base an entire genre on a handful of guys.
It’s sad when the people who hate on “ignorant sounding”(who have WAY more money than you because you know ignorant people get rich all the time) rappers sound as ignorant as them.
Wayne,Jay-Z and Eminem aren’t the whole of rap.
There are plenty of guys to check out !
Damn go look at Mos Def,Nas,Pharaoh Monch,Aceyalone, Nocando, Eyedea,Aesop Rock,Lupe Fiasco,Common, Royce Da 5′9″,Joe budden, Method Man,hell the whole Wu-tang Clan!, Bone Thugs N’ Harmony, Cypress Hill, B real, Tech N9ne,Kid Cudi, Charles Hamilton,Wale,Mikey Factz,Mikkey Halsted, Biggie Smalls, Tupac, Rass Kass,Cameron, Canibus, talib Kweli and more. This isn’t even all the artists I know. Stop being and idiot and gobbling up what you hear on the radio. People like that are what make the African American race look ignorant. Why ? Because you can’t think for yourself so you follow an established opinion. “All Rap is, is a bunch of ignorant niggas”.
When all it does is make you look like an uninformed ignorant fool.

  • 7-7-2009 1:26 am

I am beginning to belief it’s a fact about these rappers being used to keep black people dumb down, because I swear to the heavens I dont understand half of what comes out of our people mouth anymore.
    Education is fundamental people!

  • 7-7-2009 1:14 am

Black people are becoming zombies, living without souls.
It’s a sad state when this is what our children are idolizing. Our Ancestors are weeping from their graves.
    Sellouts!

  • 7-6-2009 10:51 pm

CHECK THIS OUT MAN F**K LIL WAYNE!!!!!!!! IF YALL NIGGAZ WANT THE REAL BOUT THAT PUNK GO 2 MY PAGE AND CHECK OUT MY JOINT “FAKE AZZ NIGGAZ(INDUSTRY DISS)” – J-ROLL

  • 7-6-2009 8:41 pm

    JCraig your garbage.
Anyways Wayne is far from the best rapper to ever walk the earth but he is nice.
I like him. but I like so many other artists that I wish could be at the top with him.
Anyways I hope he drops another “Carter 2″. Because the “Carter 3″, blasphemous. Straight wack compared to his last project. Though his latest singles are still weird but he’s coming harder that’s good enough for me.
