WESTWEGO, La. — Mourners at the Louisiana funeral of Cincinnati Bengals receiver Chris Henry have heard his tearful fiancee talk about how he had changed her life.
Henry was killed last week after he fell out of a pickup truck being driven by the fiancee, Loleini Tonga, during what police described as a domestic dispute. They’re investigating, but no charges have been filed.
Tonga told the hundreds of mourners — including Henry’s teammates and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell — that she and Henry “loved each other very much.” She says she’s been credited with changing Henry’s life — but that he, in fact, had changed hers.
Goodell described Henry as a young man who had “made some decisions that he regretted,” but had “put himself on the right path.”
During a five-year NFL career, Henry had been suspended five times for arrests ranging from weapons charges to drugs. But the Bengals say Henry had shown a renewed focus on his football career.
