Baseball’s Sammy Sosa Explains Skin Lightening

Sammy Sosa tells friends he is comfortable in his own skin.
But a widely circulated photo of the former Cubs slugger makes his skin color appear several shades lighter.
“He’s not trying to be Michael Jackson,” said former Cubs employee Rebecca Polihronis, who talks frequently with Sosa.
Sosa was photographed recently during an appearance at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.
“He is going through a rejuvenation process for his skin,” Polihronis said. “Women have it all of the time. He was surprised he came out looking so white. I thought it was a body double. Part of (the photo appearance) is just the lighting.
“He is in the middle of doing a cleansing process to his skin. The picture is deceiving. He said, ‘If you saw me in person, you would be surprised. When you see me in person, it is not going to seem like the picture.’
“People who saw him in person did not react the same way. He can’t believe it is such a big deal.”

I just read what freakyghettogrl..I agree on some things SOME things. But i cant stand it when black women believe that black men want “light” skinned women. STOP BEING A SLAVE TO THE MEDIA!!!! We’ve all heard comments against our skin tone from our own race. OMG when I use to do modeling I’ve heard so many people tell me that they wanted a female of darker complexion and other girls heard viceversa so all that is b.s. Shyt our people are content with being a part of the genocide in our own communities, our people are killing each other, and running out on their families–and THOSE that do it are all shades of brown and “tan”.
Anywhozy back to the topic, I find it funny how people are disgusted with Sammy but when they posted something about Lil Kim and how shes been trying to look “lighter” people posted, “oh her MAKE-UP is bogus” “her HAIR looks bad”…paying attention to everything irrelevant….
If a person is “ashamed” of being of african descent, then let them. I want strong people in my peoples communities…

Wow, that’s some skin cream… Did it also lighten his eyes and straighten his hair? It’s funny how someone can have the nerve to try to erase their race, but not the nerve to admit it. Self loathing is really a pitiful condition, no matter the race of the person.
One thing that some of us can agree is yes he is Dominicano. However, it is deeper than that.If you know the history of that side of the island, Tyrant dictatorial president Trujillo(Spanish=European) outlawed anything that has to do with Afrikan culture and Taino culture. People were put to death for observing Voodoo, Candomble, and other west Afrikan spirituality.In addition, afrikan dance, oral history, etc. were all banned in the Republika de Dominicana. He even went far by offering Europeans, Chinese, and Japanese to migrate to the country to intermarry in exchange for property. He wanted to whiten the whole country, and changed the history into more Eurocentric. Hence, Dominicanos doesnt think they are Negro until they move to the US of A.
