“Every team needs a 1 and 1A punch,” Amare Stoudemire said Tuesday after the New York Knicks acquired four-time NBA All-Star Carmelo Anthony from the Denver Nuggets.

So with the 1-punch Stoudemire in foul trouble, it was the Knicks’ 1A-punch Anthony who delivered for New York in the closing minutes to beat the Milwaukee Bucks, 114-108, last night at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Melo sank 11 of his 27 points in the final period of his celebrated debut with the Knicks (29-26). The Brooklyn native shot just 10 of 25 from the field but came through for his new team when it counted most. The Bucks (22-35) were led by John Salmons who had 27 points and seven dimes.
