Dogs are only more important than women when the subject of the suspension is a Black quarterback who threatens to redefine the position. It’s amazing how many (white) people were so quick to jettison this outstanding athlete form the game becasue he fought dogs. Give me a break. There is an NFL player whose playing right now who KILLED a woman (Leonard Little – St. Louis Rams) while driving drunk. He never missed a game, or spent 1 day in jail. But since it was a Black quarterback who was at the time the highest paid player in the game, he had a target on his back. Disgusting.

Sad to say I hadn’t even heard of the Roethlisberger “incident”, while I couldn’t avoid the onslaught of pundits addressing the Vick case. Yes it is hypocritical in every sense. And even my personal love for my pit does change the way I see either case. Is still don’t condone dog-fighting, but I nevertheless felt Vick was targeted. But either way we’re looking at cultural phenomena; dog-fighting, and animal cruelty in mass (you don’t have to subject animal to the fighting ring to be cruel to it) and a culture that de-values women. Although all of our arguments and views are good ones but do not hold any water because we as Americans have all the rights and do not fight for them. The limitations law in America I believe is 10 years. So with that in dealing with the lady in the hotel taking a year to file charges…well..it is her right. Often after a woman has been assaulted in any form, she is very hesitant to go forward because the story gets turned around and they are not only left with the pain that the assault actually DID happen but now the double humiliation of it all. When will men in our free America really learn what is free and what is not. Taking what is not yours is against the law in this country.
As for the animal fighting…..there are more animal rights activist in our country than there are representatives who support woman’s or can I go there..human rights. If an animal activist even sees you walking past a kitten in our present day, you are in court. But hey, somebody has to stand up for a creature of nature which can not speak for itself. First of all people, two wrongs don’t make a right. There is really no comparison to Vick and Ben. Mike Vick got caught, served his time, and now that should all be put behind him. Who knows what will happen with Ben, but if he indeed did the crime then he needs to do the time. Period. What Vick did was inhumane. I am not even a pit lover and it made me sick to see some of those videos of the dogs fighting. It was something that happened over and over and over and it needed to be stopped. If Vick was made an example out of it then I hate that for him, but if I’m not mistaken, dog fighting is ILLEGAL. Raping someone is ILLEGAL as well, so if Ben did this then he needs to burn for his crime. It’s not about black, white, or indifferent; it’s about who got caught and who didn’t. I agree with you about Michael Vick, I don’t believe he should have been punished the way he was. But to compare the situation with Big Ben is not right either. If you would like to make comparisons with dogs and women make sure there is something to the allegations. Not to say I do not believe that the NBA lets players abuse women but will not let them abuse dogs, but this one is crazy! She filed the CIVIL SUIT a year after the incident supposedly occurred, right before the event was to happen again. This is not the first time she has done this, and she has never filed any criminal charges. She is just suing Big Ben and the Casino. So do I think he should be suspended no. My take on Roethlisberger…I have questions….if he did rape the woman (Last Year) then why did she wait until now to say something about it. Why did she not have him arrested last year….file a report? Because she decided to wait is the reason the NFL is not sure if he did it or not. What made her decide to do it now? Did the hush money run out or something? I think Vick’s punishment may have been a bit harsh but he should have known better knowing that the average America, especially fans of the great American pasttime of football are dog lovers.
