I’m enjoying the selection you have put together of top political singles as well as albums. My music library is missing 3 albums which I will get ASAP. Nice work !!!! Ricardo
Great list Public Enemy was my favorite.
I remember reading one time a long set of comments (back and forth) on a forum were one young man tried to say hip hop did not start off as a political force, but was for pure entertainment. It of course was actually both. I wish he could see this list…I got a feeling he probably never heard of Gill Scott Heron! In fact I think we need a longer list or a Doc**entary. LOL. Sorry I’m getting carried away.
most of the wailers would need to be on this list, but mahalia jackson.i dont think ms jackson would approve of it,if she goes on the list you might as well put janet jackson on it.im mixed on alot of these people on this list,is it revolutionaries who did music or just niggas who had something to say.to brag about sex and drugs on one album and then talk bad about the system on the next doesnt make you that more political than whacko mike jackson or alvin and the chipmonks.
wtf where’s tupac come on brenda has a baby keep ya head up 2pacaloypse come on i new dis s**t was going to happen smh
Tupacs Makavelli album, was political…..I find, that yall just pull random subjects out of your ass, on this site. Without any real depth to the subject matter.
This is an excellent list of different musical artist’s showing their political side.
I think It’s safe to say All of Nas’s Albums are political masterpieces. The topic was decent somethin i have never seen on here though,I think a more interesting topic is how we deify celebrities and stuff and how it is wrong!
I agree with Dead Prez, but if ur talking about political black albums..where’s immortal technique, Paris, Poor Righteous Teachers, Chuck D, X-Clan….I could go on and on…
Excellent list. Although strong black brother is on on point with his albums. My two cents would be:
X clan-To the East, Blackwards
RBX-RBX files
Common-Ressurection
and one honorable mention:
Paris-the devil made me do it.
The album wasn’t great but at the time he kept the hard black political hip hop moving forward.
Yall get props just for this topic alone…but P.E. IT TAKES A NATION OF MILLIONS is the album you meant to put up there.
ICE CUBE’S DEATH CERTIFICATE was the other album you meant to put there.
GOODIE MOB’S SOUL FOOD was earned it’s title.
Finally NAS….N****R was a political masterpiece.
music is supose to inspire and have substance….i miss those days !!!
Those choice’s of albums are right on time. I really can’t say anything negative about them . I might I have selecred Curtis Mayfield ( Curtis ) or Back to the world. I guess anyone kind find something else oh how about Dead Poets…. Ricardo
oh by the way, “it takes a nation of millions to hold us back” was more political based than “fear of a black planet”.
where is the x-clan? black political records and no x-clan? c’mon now SISSY!!!!
black like the planet that they fear… why they scared?
Death Certificate was more political than Amerikkkas Most wanted
Spike Lee’s Do The Right Thing soundtrack just for…. PE’s FIGHT THE POWER alone should be on this list.
I have been listening to hip hop since the late 80’s when I was a kid and if I didn’t grow up around black people and have them in my family I would think they were down right racist. My favorite political group was NWA, Now thats real political hip hop !
Where is ras kass soul on ice? immortal technique revolutionary vol 1 WTF???
ProBlack yeah I love Ed O G he’s a friend of mine great choices i should have made it top 20 i should let you put up your own on the site
Let me name the ones you seem
to have forgot ?
1. The Real Black Panther
Movie Soundtrack- ” Pump Your Fist ”
2. The Lench Mob- Guerillas In the Mist.
3. Paris- Sleeping with the Enemy.
4. Paris- Sonic Jihad
5. ED O.G. and the Bulldogs-
Black United Leaders Living
off of Grooving Sounds.
6. Exodus- X- Clan
