Tyler Perry Wants to Kill Madea
Tyler Perry wants Madea dead.
That may come as a surprise, given the big-hearted but foul-tempered, pistol-packin’ granny has emerged as director-writer-producer-actor Perry’s signature character _ and, now, his cash cow.
“Tyler Perry’s Madea Goes to Jail” topped the U.S. box office last weekend with $41 million in its first three days of release. The dramedy marks Perry’s all-time opening weekend, and is poised to sprint past the overall take of his top-grossing film, “Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Family Reunion” (2006).
Still, Perry confesses: “I would love to see Madea die a slow death in the next film.”
The reason? It takes a lot of effort to turn the 6-foot-5-inch Perry into big momma Madea.
He knows she’s “a whole lot of fun to watch. But to do it is a nightmare,” Perry says.
“It’s all one suit that I’m zipped into, so it’s all heavy. The hips are heavy. And the more I sweat, the heavier it gets. I see why women have back problems who have large breasts. Holding those things upright can be tough.”
Come summer, the 39-year-old Perry _ whose Atlanta-based media empire includes films, books, videos, theatrical productions and TV shows _ will be back on the big screen making a cameo appearance in director J.J. Abrams’ “Star Trek.”
Next is Perry’s own period drama “A Jazz Man’s Blues.”
Then, more Madea, with “Madea’s Class Reunion.”
Perry said that it’s clear that fans want more of her. “As long as they want to see her, she’ll stay around. But, I’m telling you, if they ever stop coming, she’s going to die a quick death. `Madea’s Funeral.’ That’s what you look forward to.”

Perry brought Madea to life on stage and has all the power to give her the lights out treatment. Humour lifts our spirits which is why I’d prefer Madea over any of Perry’s other characters. Perry should be able to pass the role over to a woman or another Ru Paul type brother.

No No No No No…leave Madea.. she is an icon in Phoenix and we love the hell out of her. I have a friend who is mentally ill and he actually has better sense watching Madea. If he takes her away it will not be the same. Infact it will be the same as everyone else’s work. No No No! We do not want to see everybody else in Tyler Perry’s work. If you take her away, I swear somebody else will run with it and bring her back. Even white audiences are talking about it. Don’t fix something that is not broke!

Tyler you can’t kill off Madea. Other than the Brown character the show will not be as funny. I saw you live in Madea’s family reunion at the Beacon on Mother’s Day a while back and I was in the 2nd row. I treated my 2 sisters and my mother, my mom didn’t believe you were Madea under all that make-up. I was able to see you really good from my seat and she sat next to me and she didn’t know. She laughed so hard the whole time and that alone made me feel good about spending so much money on my family members for Mother’s day. My baby sister has since passed from cancer in 2005 and this is one of my fondest memories of all of us together laughing and having a great time. Thank you Tyler for giving me the opportunies to share not only your plays but your T.V. shows too. I have all your work on DVD and none of them are bootlegs. Tyler needs to just do more movies WITHOUT Madea…Get people used to it! Thats what got him started so I dont think he should totally kill her off…Just find other ways to get and keep ppl’s attention! Cora & Brown, Daddy Charles, Joe etc…He can do drama and other comedies without Madea!! I love Madea too but I understand where he is coming from! All that extra weight (whether natural or fake) is hot as hell!
