It is a tragedy in America when the poor, who are far more prevalent than the upper or middle class, go unmentioned in conversations about the ills of our country. We live in a modern day caste system where these PEOPLE are not thought of as being important enough for politics. It is an unfortunate by-product of our capitalist society which convinces people that if a person does not "have", that person is less valuable as a person. Homeleseness and poverty are constants in this country. They are conditions that are unfortunately, necessary for our society to function. How can one be SO rich and have SO much, without others being SO poor and having SO little? It is obvious that the leaders of this country do NOT have the best interest of the people in mind, but instead are more interested in what they consider to be the "almighty" dollar. While Wall Street and the banking industry are recieving all the focus of the media, millions of PEOPLE are suffering. Mental illness, obesity, and overall bad health practices are killing us at alarming rates. It is saddening and disheartening to live in the so-called "greatest country in the world" that does not care for its greatest asset, people. I agree completely with this article.
