Is this dude crazy??? Just sit back and think about it…If people “start snitchin”, I don’t know about you but around my parts…there will be a load of bodies just laying around the neighborhood. Promoting the slogan “Start Snitchin” is ridiculous because it damages the black community because we are most likely the main cause of crime..but if we start snitching there will be more retaliation. We have a African American serving the highest rank in America, so what we wanna do is bring the community together and try promoting our youth to be better people by going and staying in school. Instead of joining the Bloods or the Crips, because it leads to nothing but jail, prison or death. Trust me, because I’ve been there.

Im sorry but if I see someone committ murder right before my very eyes then Im letting the police know exactly what I saw. If I have to move or hide then so be it. I’m stuck between the two. Snitch or be quiet? I know if it was a child or one of my loved ones who were the victim then I would mos def step up to the plate. Maybe the slogan can be worded better but the idea is excellent. Others have commented that there will be dead bodies piling up and that snitching is stupid. Living near Chicago, and having neighbors being killed while doing nothing wrong, I think that “snitching” is the best thing a person can do. I am more afraid to not tell what I see because if he shot my neighbor for no reason why wouldn’t he shoot me? A criminal is a criminal and very rarely do they follow the code of conduct anymore. The thing with snitching is that yeah you can get mofos locked you and off the streets and if enough people do it in one community yeah you will see an improvement, problem is you will also more than likely see a decline in the community’s population because retaliation is inevitable and people will lose their lives, people will lose loved ones, people are just not willing to go through such things. A more effective route would be if people raised their children right, stop shaking you asses in the club (and i say this because most parents these days are fairly young and had children before they completed their youth and fun) and realize that you have responsibilities now. Then maybe just maybe more kids will be in school and not on corners, and killing each other, and other B.S., and if fathers would stop running away from their duties, people might just have a chance at life!

I hold dual law degrees in law degree in Criminal and Defense Law and I definitely know the history of how the justice systems is skewered against minorities in this country. I am an active member of ‘The Innocence Project’ (www.innocenceproject.org) which helps overturn unfair convictions using DNA evidence. I don’t need a misspelled education from you about the history of justice in this country. I’ve lived it. I have also lost a half brother and two first cousins to gang violence in the my ‘hood so I know first hand what I am talking about when I am addressing this topic.
It’s one thing to rail against the injustices of the legal system that’s broken, it’s quite another to encourage the continued violence rote on our black community. They go to their Paralegal to Re-site what they must prepare. An Educated fool is still a fool. The bottom line is if you see something in your community and it affects the community including the livelihood of your family it’s your duty to report crime. Not to snitch only encourages crime. Look some people just don’t care about nobody not even their families. So you think they care about you? People say they fear that snitching will lead to other violence but not snitching will lead to further violence. Develop some courage and clean the community up or just leave the community if you are afraid to snitch. Why live in fear. But also realize that the next victim could be you are your love ones. A snitch is not the same as an informant. A snitch is a rat, a criminal that is too weak to do the time for the crimes they committed. Sharpton needs to know what he’s asking of people. If a criminal snitches on his cohorts it doesn’t mean he is such a good and holy person that he wants to help the police. For instance, if a child molester knows info about a serial killer and snitches on him and is set free…is your community any safer? If you think so then you have serious issues. All it would mean is that you won’t be murdered BY HIM but your children are still at risk. Think about it for a second.

I agree…as far as criminal to criminal…I’m guessing it’s a code amongst thieves, but me not being of the sort. I’m straight up telling! I have a community I live in. Children and some respectable and decent people. No one wants to deal with the extra unnecessary. I believe it was rapper/actor Ice-T who said that most folks in the streets had it all wrong about the “Stop Snitching” meme. It wasn’t always about keeping silent to the police or providing witness information to law enforcement in terms of violent crimes or thefts against others. According to T, ‘stop snitching’ was originally a code amongst low level street dealers keeping quiet and not giving potentially crooked cops leads. With the popularity of the sloganed T-shirts, apparently folks got the wrong message.

Man, I say snitch, snitch, snitch, and snitch. I ain’t lying to law enforcement, and I’m certainly not going to keep quiet when I see wrong going down. The last thing our communities need is UN-cooperation in curbing crime.

Well i am conflicted on this one … first off i had been involved at a time where i was asked to be a “witness” cuz my house was broken into so i called to police and told them EVERYTHING i knew which was barely anything at all and i asked them to dust my house for finger prints the two officers that came simple dusted 4 areas and by areas i mean FLAT SURFACES when my ENTIRE house was turned inside out and told me that’s the extent of their “dusting” and it only gets more “detailed” when someone is actually “Hurt” my mother was distraught on the couch and this is the “protect and serve” that they offered me?? Meaning that i would have to be killed or my family hurt before they would make an attempt to stop something like this from reoccurring?? SOOOO i took matters into my own hands as far as “protection” a year or two later i was attacked and was stabbed twice then at the hospital i encountered 2 more officers who while i lay bleeding out asked me a series of questions repeatedly and in different ways. AGAIN the questions really had less to do with helping me catch the attackers and more to do with “filling out a report”…… Now you may judge me as you will but i’ve never did a crime i didnt have to do (take that as you may) i’ve NEVER been “locked up” for a crime other than being “black/male/5’11″ on any given day so my interaction with cops are minimal and unjustified and MOST if not all of the officers i have encountered have already been taught to be biased whether to be my skin or the situation. SO to tell a man coming from where im from, dealing with what i deal with is damn near impossible. Police are taught to “read” situations. They are also taught (subliminally) that the majority of black males are hostile and possibly criminals the sad thing is these are facts but yet ALL SITUATIONS are to be judge separately and that is something they are NOT TAUGHT or at least NOT ENFORCED so. The “black male/5’11″ community now sees any interaction with police to be a hostile / tense situation. Why would they (black males) snitch they already see you as “just doing your job” and only “dealing with the incident” so they see it like this” if i help you’ll just file it away and ill be stuck looking into the criminal’s eyes every day” and who wants to deal with that???

I got mixed feelings about that. If you snitch you better live a nice clean life and never end up in prison. Petty s**t like weed and stolen property is nothing blow a wistle at but hard drugs and crime that destroy peoples lives and communities maybe it is a good thing if your family is affected by it otherwise just mind you own business.

Start snitching to who? Should we snitch to the same

Oh yes, I definitely agree, people should start testifying and tell everything they see. If it comes to the point where people are running the streets making people’s lives miserable and some people are scared to sit on there front porch because of these evil doers, those people should be locked up. Just because a group of people make awful decisions in there life doesn’t mean the whole community should have to pay, by living in fear. I say if Im going to be scared to walk out my front door, because these people are terrorizing people and I’m not going to be at peace anyway, why not tell and get them off the streets. They can’t scare everyone.

Yes, I agree; snitch snitch snitch, our baby’s lives are being ruined, they can’t play outside or walk to the store without being threatened, scared, or victimized and before you know it they are picking up on what they see. If people don’t want to do the time, don’t do the crime. So if you worry about being snitched on, get a grip, change your life for the better and stop doing what you are doing. With all that CSI bulls**t, the police should be able to do their job without the help of the public…If they were doing their job in the first place instead of trying to keep black people down then this problem might have never occurred.

I think a MUCH better idea could have been created instead of “Start Snitching.” No one, at least the n**gas I know, would follow it. You might as well make a t-shirt that says “Be a RAT, it’s OK” and have a big azz rat on the front. The word itself has too much negative connotation. The real problem lies beneath the people who refuse to point criminals for the safety of themselves and their families. As for me if i witness a crime I will give information.
