Murdochs Avatar Triumph

PHILADELPHIA — Near the end of the hit film “Avatar,” the villain snarls at the hero, “How does it feel to betray your own race?” Both men are white — although the hero is inhabiting a blue-skinned, 9-foot-tall (2.74-meter-tall), long-tailed alien.

Strange as it may seem for a film that pits greedy, immoral humans against noble denizens of a faraway moon, “Avatar” is being criticized by a small but vocal group of people who allege it contains racist themes — the white hero once again saving the primitive natives.

Since the film opened to widespread critical acclaim three weeks ago, hundreds of blog posts, newspaper articles, tweets and YouTube videos have said things such as the film is “a fantasy about race told from the point of view of white people” and that it reinforces “the white Messiah fable.”

The film’s writer and director, James Cameron, says the real theme is about respecting others’ differences.

In the film (read no further if you don’t want the plot spoiled for you) a white, paralyzed Marine, Jake Sully, is mentally linked to an alien’s body and set loose on the planet Pandora. His mission: persuade the mystic, nature-loving Na’vi to make way for humans to mine their land for unobtanium, worth $20 million per kilo back home.

Like Kevin Costner in “Dances with Wolves” and Tom Cruise in “The Last Samurai” or as far back as Jimmy Stewart in the 1950 Western “Broken Arrow,” Sully soon switches sides. He falls in love with the Na’vi princess and leads the bird-riding, bow-and-arrow-shooting aliens to victory over the white men’s spaceships and mega-robots.

Adding to the racial dynamic is that the main Na’vi characters are played by actors of color, led by a Dominican, Zoe Saldana, as the princess. The film also is an obvious metaphor for how European settlers in America wiped out the Indians.

Robinne Lee, an actress in such recent films as “Seven Pounds” and “Hotel for Dogs,” said that “Avatar” was “beautiful” and that she understood the economic logic of casting a white lead if most of the audience is white.

But she said the film, which so far has the second-highest worldwide box-office gross ever, still reminded her of Hollywood’s “Pocahontas” story — “the Indian woman leads the white man into the wilderness, and he learns the way of the people and becomes the savior.”

“It’s really upsetting in many ways,” said Lee, who is black with Jamaican and Chinese ancestry. “It would be nice if we could save ourselves.”

Annalee Newitz, editor-in-chief of the sci-fi Web site io9.com, likened “Avatar” to the recent film “District 9,” in which a white man accidentally becomes an alien and then helps save them, and 1984′s “Dune,” in which a white man becomes an alien Messiah.

“Main white characters realize that they are complicit in a system which is destroying aliens, AKA people of color … (then) go beyond assimilation and become leaders of the people they once oppressed,” she wrote.

“When will whites stop making these movies and start thinking about race in a new way?” wrote Newitz, who is white.

Black film professor and author Donald Bogle said he can understand why people would be troubled by “Avatar,” although he praised it as a “stunning” work.

“A segment of the audience is carrying in the back of its head some sense of movie history,” said Bogle, author of “Toms, Coons, Mulattoes, Mammies & Bucks: An Interpretive History of Blacks in American Films.”

Bogle stopped short, however, of calling the movie racist.

“It’s a film with still a certain kind of distortion,” he said. “It’s a movie that hasn’t yet freed itself of old Hollywood traditions, old formulas.”

Writer/director Cameron, who is white, said in an e-mail to The Associated Press that his film “asks us to open our eyes and truly see others, respecting them even though they are different, in the hope that we may find a way to prevent conflict and live more harmoniously on this world. I hardly think that is a racist message.”

There are many ways to interpret the art that is “Avatar.”

What does it mean that in the final, sequel-begging scene, Sully abandons his human body and transforms into one of the Na’vi for good? Is Saldana’s Na’vi character the real heroine because she, not Sully, kills the arch-villain? Does it matter that many conservatives are riled by what they call liberal environmental and anti-military messages?

Is Cameron actually exposing the historical evils of white colonizers? Does the existence of an alien species expose the reality that all humans are actually one race?

“Can’t people just enjoy movies any more?” a person named Michelle posted on the Web site for Essence, the magazine for black women, which had 371 comments on a story debating the issue.

Although the “Avatar” debate springs from Hollywood’s historical difficulties with race, Will Smith recently saved the planet in “I Am Legend,” and Denzel Washington appears ready to do the same in the forthcoming “Book of Eli.”

Bogle, the film historian, said that he was glad Cameron made the film and that it made people think about race.

“Maybe there is something he does want to say and put across” about race, Bogle said. “Maybe if he had a black hero in there, that point would have been even stronger.”

number one AP is racist by calling them primitive. That word is as hurtful as calling someone a niga, its connotation is beyond reproach because of what Euroepeans did to all of us in this entire Earth.

The movie has racial undertones but not in a demeaning way. Rather, a way that shows how rich we are in tradition and how we value our spirit and everything God has provided us. There are so much people can learn from this movie IF they exactly have a slight knowledge of who they are and their value as a divine being.

BP keep trying with your racial divide title because only zombies will but in to your tactics.Like I said keep trying.BP reminds me of the BOONDOCKS episode on BET lol.

Silt Icka and Laker Dude, apprently both of you probably are the best uncle toms at your jobs as you get along to move along, lol. This article is definitely right, have any of you so called educated brothas and sistahs, why is that most box office hero movies have the white man that saves the day and the whole world. Start paying attention and stop being so blind and naive toward what America really thinks of you. You are good enough to pay to see movies like Avatar, but your people can’t be the one who saves the world. You even have white politicians, celebrities, and media showcasing their racism because my generation has become “weak and tamed”. I am 27 years old, and I doing something about it when I volunteer at a elementary school and allow “our” children to see “our” faces as black men. That’s why alot of black children look up to whites, but disrespect and hurt each other as a people.

Some of you adults need to wake up out of la la la we are the world, and we are a diverse generation bulls**t, and need to learn how and why you are being discriminated against and prejudice. Some of you all don’t know when you are being laughed at or disrespected like the stupid and ignorant black man or woman that you are when you are around whites. I know I am about to get alot of negative responses, but I don’t care as I am keeping it real unlike most of you who are glad to have white friends because you fit in. It’s nothing wrong with being diverse and open minded, but be that way toward your OWN PEOPLE FIRST!!!

If I am so wrong around it, go to your school, work, clubs, walking the streets. Why is it that Hispanics and Whites stick together in a group, have lunch with each other, sit together. We are the ones that are questioning our own race and ancestry of African, and self hating ourselves. When we look at each other, we frown, but when another race approaches us, we are happy, smiling and telling jokes. I am just saying, take a really good look at yourself and your actions toward other races, but your own. Why is that police offices answer calls of kidnap, rape, crime, and etc and respond faster in white neighborhoods, but not ours.

Watch your children as well my people. Wonder why your daughter prefers the white barbie doll and not the dark or fair skin barbie?? Symbolic images can influence in everyday life from friends, and even seeing a certain race as being the friendly ones, and another race being the bad ones. No one can tell me that images don’t play a role on your wants, needs, and desires. Why do you think McDonalds have so many commercials, or you view previews at the movies if you see something you like, you are going to eat it or see that movie. The same when it comes to a white man ALWAYS being the hero. That’s why I am glad Denzel Washington’s new movie, the Book of Eli will create a big spin and twist with a brotha being the hero. Hell, I wouldn’t care if the hero was Hispanic, Chinese, Pakistanian, etc.

I am just keeping it real, and whoever disagrees with me, you are blind and need to read your history, and stop with the damn facebooking, twittering, and watching Fox News being a brainwashed good ole nigga for white America. It’s time to wake up my people, and stop allowing yourself to be controlled and to think for yourself and be aware of your environmental both in ral time and visual The greatest way to grab people’s attention is through visuals.

Why do minorities have to be diverse whereas white America can be who they are, and do what they want? THINK ABOUT IT!

I both understand with Dark_Zero’s position, and jazzpast’s position as well. But allow us to focus on the “Big” picture. Describing the Na’vi as being “primitive” is simply a matter of perception. In actuality the ancient ones that inhabited this planet long ago have been considered primitive by the same mordern day archeologist that seem somehow baffled
by the evidence of their advanced technology. (Giza, Nazca, Puma Punku, Stonehenge). Racism as we know it, has only has been practiced for the past 500 years. I know that may seem like a long time for most of us, but on a much broader time line …this predominately Westernized philosophy is relatively new. Once us as “Moors” reclaim our true identity back and get back in tuned with nature (stop mimicking the images of the Amorites) everything will naturally fall back under universal law (automatically). The real kicker is that too many of us don’t realize that movies like Avatar are suppose to light a fire up under our asses and spark a far more metaphysical type of debate than this. The time is upon us NOW! We will soon be forced to revert back to nature(NETER), or else be destroyed by it.
These lofty, “cushy” little cubicles and desk jobs, with these funky little “diplomas” that validate us as scholars and specialist in their eyes,
amount to nothing in this day and time. Stop chasing these bulls**t dreams, and start pursuing the truth while you still have time. THE GAME IS ALMOST NEAR THE END. WAKE UP!

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/ICANPROVEUWRONG/ ICANPROVEUWRONG

This was a waste of a topic, to the writers of this work instead of complaining about racism why don’t you write your own version or book to celebrate the so called black man plight?

@ Dark zero, odd you would say that about the movie yet that white man had to become another race in order to see the light choosing to leave his race to be with the original inhabitants of that planet.

This also can be a representation of whites knowing that they are morally wrong and should follow others with a better connection to this or that planet, it could be interpreted so many different ways. Live a little bit more and see the world for what it truly is.

I just went to go see this for the first time last night. I didn’t feel the movie was offensive. It did remind me of Disney’s Pocahontas, because the message was clearly the same. The message also reminded me of what will be the effects of Global warming someday. It secondly made me think of the message that should have been crystal clear about Alien life else where. Racist? some people should really learn to think outside the box sometimes..

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/Lucky_Jester777/ Lucky_Jester777

This article kind of picks up where some of the other sites leave off.. the author of this post was just asking the question as opposed to everyone else (other critics) claims toward the movie. With that said,

Why is this such a ‘touchy’ subject for ‘some’ people? I mean really what does history teach us? What IS history supposed to teach us? Is this movie un-harboring feelings of guilt for the evil that was marked in history?

Hell im waiting for the sequel when they show how African/Caribbean people were taken against their will…. NAAAAA that would be asking for too much for HOLLYWOOD to portray. District 9 was already bad enough, but maybe someday someone will get it right and not be scared to be claimed racist for telling the truth!!! Which in fact from a fantasy point of view was demonstrated in the movie AVATAR.

@jazzpast: The word primative is not a derogative term when it comes to people living amongst the trees and warring with long pointy sticks. Shaka Zulu outdated that mode of warfare. I have to agree w/904music_lover88.
I thought the villian was refering to the earthlings vs blue giants. What bothers me is this over emphasis of who is or isn’t a racist. Yesterday, at one point, 7 out of 10 articles under Breaking News had to do with someone calling some else’s words or actions racist. It’s bad enough having to deal w/the attitudes of “real racists” but now we have to witness this melt down of white America coming to terms w/its’ self.

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/panamaniak/ panamaniak

Isn’t the guy referring to HUMAN BEINGS? That IS his race NOT “white”. Come on people. I’m not one of these people who say that racism is a thing of the past,as a matter of fact it’s probably a little worse. Since now (as with this point)someone can get away with being racist and when you call them on it they can certainly say “Oh you’re just being too sensitive”! Then it gets lumped in with a false alarm. This is a movie about humans and blue aliens. Have we gotten so SOFT that EVERYTHING is an offense? Ask some of your GRANDPARENTS (if they are still with us)what TRUE racism is. My abuela used to tell me stories about the Klan doing what they wanted, how they wanted and when and with whomever they wanted. Getting dragged out of your house at 2:00am and beaten within an inch of your life…just because. Now THAT’S RACISM. Stop being cry babies and be strong soldiers like Brother Malcolm,Dr.King, and the Panthers…

    What’s in a word?

Not that neither of ppl the story is about (Robinne Lee, Annalee Newitz or Donald Bogle) said the word “Racist”. That label has been attached by the author. They just said that it is a regurgitation of the Pocahontis story, where it takes a white saviour to rescue the “primitives” or “natives”. Their interpretation, which I can weigh up and either take heed or discard.

On the other hand the article also shows that, it is better than it was, as big budget American films are no longer “allergic” to non-white lead stars. I will also weigh this up.

If u think it’s bad for African Americans on film, just imagine if you were Middle Eastern or South Asian!

    @jahz_linx

I definitely understand what you conveyed. however, I am referring to the negation of Europeans(capitalistic humans in Avatar) of our ancestors, where they made their voyage in every corner of the world declaring every society as primitive as in Orient vs. Occidental, conquerors vs, natives etc. Therefore, in my understanding if we dont express to the world that our ways was never primitive just because we live with the nature(neter) and believe in every 5th dimension spirit doesnt make us primitive.Definitely doesnt make it ok for them to conquer once land, genocide the population, rape our women and kill our children then convert us into their religion and lifestyle so we can be civilized. For example, in South afrika, this is how Ghandi isolated himself and gaining respect from the Europeans because of his disconnect by using terms like natives and primitives, and then he used violence in order to gain little right from the Europeans. It is demeaning for one to belittle once culture just because they live with nature and respect every living organism, and does not possess weapons of mass destruction.

All I know… is if you’re black and you’re talking the propaganda about “there are no more good black men, I’m now looking outside the race”, I better not read a comment from you about how you don’t like racism in this film! Blacks are increasily looking towards the white man to be the savior to black issues, and many ways you live your lives show you are part of that plan. If you’d rather pick a white lawyer, over a black one, to defend your life, or a white doctor over a black, you’re the same animal as James Cameron, and need to leave him alone about this movie. If you go to church and your Jesus is that white man in the pictures you see in most churches, YOU are part of the problem. Too many people look to whites as the saviors, so if a movie reflects this, it’s just what the mainstream white man feels, and it’s his ignorance of your feelings, not necessarily blatant racism, that he’s expressing in films like this.

I guess I’m some kinda slow cause I didn’t even think of this as a racial movie. I’ve seen Avatar and aside from the fact that it is long as hell and reminded me of Fern Gully 2009, I kinda liked it. I understand the references that are being made, but I wasn’t offended at all. Same with Resident Evil 5. If the hero was black and the zombies were white, no one would say anything at all. The game is fun. If black people were as concerned with the condition of their race in reality as much as they are in the entertainment industry, we wouldn’t be killing ourselves. We’re so worried about what white people are doing that we forget about BLACK PEOPLE. Do any of you know James Cameron? I don’t, so how could i claim he was racist. Tyler Perry makes white people look like they all are racist and black people look like coons. Spike Lee’s movies all portray blacks as if it’s 1978. Ice Cube’s movies portray blacks as thugs and weedheads. But none of that matters because we all have paid our 9.50 to see one of their movies. So please stop blowing MOVIES out of proportion. If you are really concerned with the state of our race…pick up a bag and some gloves and clean the projects. Donate to a BLACK charity. At the very least, don’t shoot your black neighbor or sell him some crack.

I think Avatar tells a broader story… Tells the story of exploitation of a people. If you watch the themes carefully and get around the special effects and everything else. You will find there is alot of truth in this movie that is hiding behind a fictional story. Alot of movies tell you the truth but we get so caught up in the special effects we dont see the foundation of the storytelling. Watch it.. But really watch it..

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/aamaazon/ aamaazon

Well since everything has a positive and negative aspect, and those whom are negative will always focus on the negative, I guess that perhaps those who are seeing this as a racist movie should do a brain enema and watch the movie without all the feelings of the “colored (blue, red, brown, or black, whatever)being saved by the watermelon man of the blue planet.

I saw a strong correlation to world history in this movie. The exploiters, usual of a pale skin, trying to oust the people of color in order to exploit the land and take the riches at any cost to the native peoples.

As is often the case, one of the enemy becomes enthralled with the natives and sees the wrong doing of his/her kind and sides with the higher levels of spirituality in the process.

My favorite line from the Avatar movie, and I paraphrase is; “see this is how they do it, make the natives the enemy and than destroy them.” We see this concept over and over again in every culture, where the exploiters demonize the natives, than execute genocide. This is the common status quo as seen historically throughout doc**ented history.

Racist? only if you stay focused on the whites doing their normal thing: destroying the people, their culture and their land in order to capitalize.

In essence, I think Avatar is another expose’ of exploiters doing their thing as they normally do. Has anyone found the weapons of mass destruction yet, or the masterminds behind the world trade buildings destruction, or more recently, where the hell did a nigerian get explosives that could be embedded in his underwear. Like New Jack City, how many people in ghettos, nigeria or most other 3rd world countries have access to the kind of technology that makes these things happen?

I thought it was a good movie. I was happy a black actress got the lead female part. Why can’t we be proud of that? If some silly stereotypical black comedy film comes out then it’s the best thing ever. The storyline wasn’t complex but hey people, it’s entertainment. The same could be said about a certain book, a certain rapper in concert, your favorite tv show, anything in life really. Not everyone will like everything. Its fiction not a bio or doc**entary. Take it for what it is. However what i got from it was how whites will always go into a community to get whatever resource they need at any cost with no regard for anyone else. Think of the native indians. The africans. All the indigenous people around the world. That’s just what the powers that be do. They take and never give. People, oil, diamonds, natural resources, etc. Take a look at the world around you. If you look at any issue around the world and break it down to it’s simplist level, it’s about something tangible which equates to currency. Also the issue of cloning came up for me. That’s the scary part. If its in a movie, then most likely they are already doing it in secret somewhere. They’re already doing sheep and cattle and selling it in stores. So all you beef eaters, eat up! LOL. That’s what everyone should be concerned about.

This is why the issue of racism isn’t taken seriously by so many people today. The word is thrown around so carelessly, is this really the issue we want to take a stand on NOW? With all the crap going on, with all the problems in America in regards to race – Avatar is the story people are focusing on.
I find that really disturbing – instead of discussing the OBVIOUS racism and daily injustices, people would rather make some up and our people are the ones to run with it. This is so ridiculous.
Yes, white people take over and destroy stuff then use the natives to build their wealth even more. But that is happening everyday in real time…Write a story about that. Get on your platform, soapbox, computer, etc and blog about that.

Bigger message. Open your mind. “Neo” Colonialism/Capitalism. We need to start seeing further beyond this “racism” hooplah and dig deeper into the problems that plague our communities. OURSELVES! Peace.

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/pantherg08/ pantherg08

we need to understand that when we see racism in everything it diminishes real racism when it happens. when something really racist happens other races say that we think that way about everything and they dont take it serious. al sharpton and jesse jackson are also responsible this. avatar is not a racist movie, resident evil is not a racist game. u want to know what racism is? its the white people who would vote for a lights skinned or mixed african american over a dark skinned. its racial profiling, its not being able to get a job because of your skin color. not some movie or video game. we complain when we dont get the roles in movies, or wonder why were never in video games and then when we are we nit pick anything and look for racism where it does not exist. avatar is a good movie the only message i got from that is a green message stating that we as the human race are desroying or planet for finacial gane ane we would do that to any planet we can fine.

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/pantherg08/ pantherg08

and if u really want to see racism, turn on bet! that network is owned by a white man all u see on that show is steroytypes of black people. destroying the minds of our youth, u guys will criticise avatar but the real enemy is bet!!!!!!!!

like “Michelle” on the Essence website said, can’t we just enjoy movies anymore?

Avatar was a beautiful, interesting film. everyone who’s seen it knows it was predictable…and how can we call something predictable if we’ve never seen the same Hollywood plot multiple times before?

if you’re gonna call anything racist, it should be Hollywood.

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/headraider/ headraider

Please! As a black man, everything isn’t racism, certainly everytime a person of another so called race helps in the liberation of an oppressed people…Let’s fight real batlles, like supporting HR 1529 introduced by Charles Rangel.

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/movingforward05/ movingforward05

Tsk, tsk, tsk! Why is everything in the damn world racist? Hell there are more important issues at hand, then some damn movie about white folks tearing up some more s**t. They(white people) have been doing this for 100′s of years, going to new places they didn’t/never knew about, kill off the culture living there, keep a few natives alive to guide them as they destroyed the world. That’s what white men do!

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/silkysatin08/ silkysatin08

You gotta be kidding me!!! RACE in America is so overrated… Everything is about race. If you get upset at someone you’re racist, if you just happen to pick a color you like it’s racist!! Now Avatar a mere movie which i love because it captures your attention until the end is a RACIST movie!!! People need to start working on self development and betterment rather than blame everything on race. Does racism exist? Yes! But gees! Not in every single thing.. Common!!!

Isn’t Morris Chestnut saving the earth from his own kind as an Alien in V? I dont think Hollywood was tryna B racist. I think they were tryna entertain people with their ideas and make money @ the same time. You can put the race stigma on anything really. Its the old Angels food vs. Devils food argument, U feel me?

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/IamYourGod/ IamYourGod

It had racist overtones because of it’s historical themes, Pocahontas, colonization of natives, corporate greed over respect for nature, betrayal and trickery. All things that are historically associated with white people
vs native populations. The degree of trickery was deeper in Avatar as the white mentality was able to occupy bodies similar to the natives but not exactly as the natives. It appears the smell was not correct among other things. At any rate, the white guy was not the savior, his plan failed and the Spirits of the ancestors brought things to a close with those big hammer heads. One white guy decided he just didn’t want to be white any more, maybe that was racist as well.

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/kaliboy2/ kaliboy2

its just a movie and racism stuff needs to go out the window. we need to let it go. its a new world out there and the people who keep brining up racism is most likely to bring it back. and that is something we dont need. its weird though how people say its racist if you think about it. they had to sit through a whole hour and a half movie and towards the end they hear that one little line and assume its racists. people please just let it go. its just a movie.

That’s a load of crap in my opinion. The movie was great and I agree with the directors view point.

I get what people find offensive, even though I enjoyed the movie. Hollywood keeps rehashing the same formula with the same conclusion: White people as savior.

Please please would people stop crying racist…remember what happened to the little boy cried wolf? When the wolf really came no one believed him. Please save your energy for when we really need it. Yes it was a White leading actor…have we forgotten though America is a melting pot, it is still 80% (not exact percentage) white. They are the majortiy so our media reflects such…get over it. well first off i want to start out stating that this movie was good all around. very entertaining and made you feel like you got your money’s worth unlike a lot of the rubbish hollywood dishes out.

the whole thing reminded me of the manner in which the indians were wiped out but i didn’t see it’s message as racist. as far as sully being the hero at the end, i just saw that as the typical hollywood action hero ending. who likes it when the heroes fail? moviegoers wouldn’t have been as pleased seeing the “real” ending when the earthlings come back stronger and wipe them out for good and take everything they’ve got…though we all know that’s how this story goes

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/4LOSTSOULSONLYIL/ 4LOSTSOULSONLYIL

Come on people the movie has a racist ring to it. And it also shows what has been going on for decades. Why does the inferior race have to go along with the superior race? Why do the “white” have to impose their views and why is it celebrated when the “blue” people start to work with them. I mean really does it not seem familiar…

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/Queentruth/ Queentruth

okay did any of you really watch the movie, it celebrated our culture (native american and african). It gave examples of how we had and will continue to live in harmony with the land if we can overcome the invasion of our culture. It showed also how naive we can be as a people, native american and african, of the threat to our culture. The white man in a blue body is not the hero although he does help us to see that we are in danger; who better to let us know than one of those who come from the invaders camp. In the end the strong blue native woman actually saves him from his own kind. What it also shows is that when we stand together as one people we are invincible even from those who consider themselves technologically advanced. When we use our natural resources, those blue bodies and spiritual minds, we connect with our maker who will honor our struggle with support.

We have got to stop hurting ourselves by making everything racial… and no I am not a republican… very liberal in fact but I am open to see the good in a thing just as I am able to find the bad or racist.

I agree the marine may have been better played by someone of color, but I am sure someone black would have found something wrong with that as well.

We should have taken this opportunity to lay claim to the parts of this movie that speak to our cultural foundation and celebrate it for the work of art that it is.

Okay we’ve heard all the bulls**t, but this bottomlines it! When are all you smart oppressed, “I see racism everywhere!” f**ktards going to write, produce, and direct a movie where the black guy saves the blueskinned people? Never, cuz 99.2% of blacks don’t write, watch, or like sci-fi. Which is what this movie was SCIENCE FICTION! If I lived my life so miserabally where every kraaka was trying to usurp my, blackness, steal the worlds resources, subliminally plant the idea that they are the worlds saviors, I’d have killed my nutty conspiratorial ass a long time ago YOU MISERABLE BASTARDS, and nanastroker you couldn’t afford a ticket anyway…loser!

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/slit_lcka005/ slit_lcka005

jazzpast I thought nanastroker was the dumbest SOB on Earth, but I gotta give it to ya! You take the prize dips**t. The blue skin is because of the high methane content on the world the aliens live on stupid hence the f**king oxygen mask the humans have to wear! I guess Dr. Manhatten from the Watchmen was Krishna as well…DUMBASS!

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/Cotonpickin/ Cotonpickin

They are aliens and humans. their Human A-holes of all races, aliens aren’t part of the human race or don’t the blue skin, height and tails give that away… Stop lookin for racism in everything, I mean come on

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/handsom7/ handsom7

I’m sick and tired of white people deciding who’s a racist. If former president Ronald Ragan was not a racist, then the republican party needs to decide what’s a racist. President Obama sure isn’t one. I can recall all the funds that Reagan cut from the black c**munities. Like I was taught as a child, don’t throw stones if you live in a glass.

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/ldytrkdrvr/ ldytrkdrvr

I like the ending when they sent them back to earth. I saw blue people, those that really were, and those that wanted to be. I saw someone sketch this movie over Pocahontas, just a few name changes including the author. Tada! I liked that it reminded me about Hitler, the slave trade, Plimouth rock, etc. Even though there were casualites there was victory. I am so glad so many people went to go see it, and to me it came at a very good time. ^_^

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/MyEyezAdoreU/ MyEyezAdoreU

racist message no. Racist undertones, definitely. There were after all other issues too. Or id it that all you see is color????

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/theoba/ theoba

Number one, there are no aliens. The only aliens are humans who see others as aliens because of the color of their skin. Which has caused inhuman treatment toward people of color by White’s who see themselves as superior to other human beings. Which is a sad inditement of the human race toward itself. As long as any part of the human race hates any other part of it’s race, there will never be what many movies try to project,( that we can love outside of who we are} yet can not love people who bleed as we do, no matter the color 0r culture. If we as Men and Woman don’t have a heart change, our efforts to present ourselves as savior to our communities will be nothing more than what it is. THE SAME OLD SOUP WARMED OVER. So let movies be(fiction)movies, and let us as people appreciate our differences just as we appreciate the beauty in a flower garden.
