The so-called conflict in this story, is tantamount to arguing over the East Bunny. Absolutely, ridiculous.

……….and now the rest of the story: Taunton Mayor Charles Crowley has asked School Superintendent Dr. Julie Hackett to apologize to the family and to issue a public apology and to develop a school-wide policy to prevent this from happening again.

He has also ordered the schools to pay for the psychiatric exam the child had to undergo as a condition of returning to school.

writing this editorial:Our View: Picture not inappropriate…..It was just a picture that any student at any school in any state could have drawn.

The picture was supposed to be something that reminded the children of Christmas, according to the assignment given by the teacher.

So this 8-year-old second grader at the Maxham Elementary School in Taunton did what he was supposed to do. {excerpt} ….This is the case where a school district – which will not comment on the matter – has gone way overboard in terms of disciplinary action and determining the best interests of children and the classroom.

Any child, though, could have drawn the same picture.

Yet instead of trying to work with children and applaud their creativity and their sense of expression, we condemn the child as if he has committed some crime.

“The only crime here is that the educators failed this child. They failed in their mission to teach and they failed this student in trying to encourage him for trying to express himself”.

“It’s a shame the situation had to come to this”.

“It was just a picture”.

“He drew a picture, a picture that wound up getting him into trouble for no reason at all.

The student and his family had visited the Christmas display at the National Shrine of Our Lady of La Salette, a Christian retreat in Attleboro.

So the student drew a picture of Jesus on the cross”.

Hmmmm for once I agree with the lakerdude….Yes this would have made me think as a teacher..But I wouldnt have called terror alert high RED like this person did. I would have just asked the kid why did he draw such a picture and asked him to explain it to me..It could have been as simple as something he saw on TV or in a picture of someone else…never know…I wouldnt have gone this far though and I wouldnt have let him return to this school either.

Soveu, the teacher never called 911. In fact, according to a prominent news source, the father made up the entire story (including the picture). Racism must not be as bad these days since black people are having to completely fabricate their own stories!

JESUS IS THE REASON FOR THE CHRISTMAS SEASON!!! If you believe in JESUS or not, Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Christ, so why is it that this child, who is obviously more understanding of God than the adults at his school, need an evaluation and thought to be “a threat to himself and/or others”? UNBELIEVABLE! The enemys of God is trying to do all they can to keep us/you from believing in, celebrating and now drawing about JESUS. It doesn’t matter though. The day is coming when “EVERY KNEE SHALL BOW AND EVERY TONGUE SHALL CONFESS THAT JESUS IS LORD” so for everyone reading this, here is your warning God has set the way and you can believe this or not but JESUS IS THE WAY, THE TRUTH, AND THE LIFE AND “NO” MAN COMES TO THE FATHER EXCEPT BY HIM”. Sorry for not commenting on the statement the child made about him being on the cross. The folly of this teacher to me was the failure to relate to this situation somewhat like a child. As a father of five, I know that babies of this age relate differently to things they feel emotional about, which he has to feel something to even draw this type of picture. So I can only see this boy drawing from the understanding of a child. We, as adults, sometimes overthink things and in turn blow things out of shape when we should just stop, look, and listen. Especially to our children.

The school definitely overreacted.
