Let me speak a little bit of harsh truth here for a minute. The hatred a certain percentage of blacks have for Michael Steele is unjust and many have no clue where Michael Steele stands on certain issues, they think the black race should 100% stand behind Democrats at every turn but therein lies the conflict. Black people on the one hand are tired of some negative sterotypical black person being cast as the general image of the entire black race and scream about “individualism” but at the same time any black Republican is looked at as being an “Uncle Tom” or “white man shoe shiner” for thinking for himself and not letting a bunch of reverands and ministers be their spokesperson. I remember the black guy on CNN in 2008 that decided to vote and campaign for McCain received tons of hatemail from blacks all over the country being a “sellout” and my question is……How can you scream about individualism and say you’re tired of one person in an entire race being an image of the entire race but when a black person shows any hint of individual and doesnt bow down to kiss Obama’s shoes they get insults by every black person they pass? In 2008 I voted for Obama because I believe and still believes he’s the best man for the job at the moment but to hae hypocrites say “one black person doesnt represent the interest of the entire race” but in that same conversation look at influential blacks like Michael Steele and call them sellouts for not “falling in line” behind the candidates the blacks love. I am a true individual and I speak and vote for myself and my personal feelings and I dont allow a minister to speak for me and tell me what I should like and I dont believe that I should walk around with hatred for what happened to blacks in the 1800s. What happened in 1855 is done, I cant change anything in the past and walking around with hatred in my heart wont do anything for me in 2010. I really hope the people that read this, if anyone reads this, actually takes the time to read and COMPREHEND what I am trying to say instead of skimming through what I am saying and interpreting it to mean what they want it to mean

I agree with a lot of what Unique019 has stated. I’m not into politics at all because for the most part, it requires a “be patient” “sit back and wait” attitude, meanwhile the system that is almost in a state of disrepair is actually being made worse, and this is done at the hands of both parties. If some in depth study was conducted by most democratic voters, they would find that Bush was no better or worse than Clinton, and Obama is merely a combination of both. I would love for someone to cite something that Obama is doing any different than Bush, yet they will bash Bush all day long. They are either liars or embarrassingly misinformed. Lastly, If I were into politics, I would definitely have to align myself with the Libertarian party. I suspect many people aren’t even remotely familiar with them, due to their blind allegiance to the Dems, but if they insist on being a part of the politrickal, excuse me, I meant to say political process, it would be a good idea to find out what they are about, and maybe, just maybe, you might hear something that actually sounds logical, sound, and is trying to blow smoke up your azz like Barack was able to do.

the problem many blks have with blk republicans is too many of them come across as a “shock jock”. they’re just out to make a name for themselves and a quick way to do it is a blk bashing other blks and blk people. and when of their own party mebers says soemthing racist and bigotted, they’re tight lipped and afraid to speak out on it. codileeza r. and colin p. commanded respect. m. steele can’t be taken as serious.

Unique 019…I agree with much that you have said. I think blacks have long had an unhealthy and undeserved loyalty to Democrats. In many ways, it is this undeserved loyalty that has kept our communities stagnant. And while there are few blacks who are willing to evaluate Republican policies and candidates, many vote Democratic as it feels the lesser of two evils and thus a necessary choice in a bipartisan political environment; not necessarily because they actually favor the Democratic position. In either case, I think we need to demand accountability in exchange for our votes.

All this said, my problem with Michael Steele is that he was clearly chosen as a token black figurehead meant to falsely suggest a diversity/openness to diversity that does not truly exist in the Republican party to date. So while it may feel like a betrayal to him. I think the cannabalism his own party now exerts towards him is if nothing else ….predictable. Perhaps he will now take a more objective look at the current state of the Republican party including it’s lack of diversity, it’s dangerous alliance with the tea-party constituents and the backwards/wrong-way policies it upholds despite the majority decision to move the country in a different direction (as evidenced by the election of Barack Obama and the aspersion of GW Bush policies. )

And don’t even get me started on those pictures he has posed for. While he may look at them as light-hearted. He needs to take a deeper look and try to understand why his counterparts feel this is appropriate behavior with him yet not their like-skinned counterparts.

_A_….while I can agree with much of the Libertarian idealogy; the problem is that the idealogy and the candidates are not often consistent. More typically, their candidates are right-wing, religion-based, Republicans and not true Libertarians (i.e. Bob Barr)

I agree with a lot of people on here. To me it is the lesser of 2 evils. The democrats seem to baby black people while the republicans seem to ignore us. They never seem to interested in pushing blacks for president even though they had Alan Keyes and JC Watts but both left the parties. I guess the RNC is realizing being African Anerican is a good thing for them. If only we saw some of our facees during the McCain’s acceptance speech. We were once proud to be a part of the party of Lincoln, but of course that is when we were trying to find our way. @Dynomite, Gingrich specifically said “Republicans” not white folks in general. Hell for all we know he could mean some Black reps too, the way some of them get on. But keep in mind, Gingrich is a lifelong Republican and understands the way that group thinks as good as anyone. That might even speak more to the age of most of those politicians more than the party itself. The one thing this comment and Harry Reid’s comments illustrates so brightly though, after all this time, race is still an unsolved equation much to OUR peril, in this country and the world.
